@mstancea

True Conviction would be nice to have, but I don't have space for it. Unless you have any suggestions of what to drop for it.

No interest in Silent Arbiter . My meta has too many powerful Commanders that could completely ignore it, like Sigarda, Host of Herons , and Rafiq of the Many

The only things I'm kind of skeptical about is Trading Post , Ajani, Caller of the Pride , and Haunted Plate Mail for a couple of reasons:

Trading Post : While it is great to be able to return artifacts that people just spent a whole bunch of time getting rid of, the fact that there are times when you can't wait a turn to pop out a goat or get rid of one of your actual creatures to use it's ability. On top of that, there is more mass artifact destruction than targeted artifact destruction in every game that I have played. That said, recursion is nice, especially with the swords.

Ajani, Caller of the Pride : Temporary double strike and flying is nice, but I don't know if he is worth that card slot in this deck. Sure he's great, but the question is, is he great enough? Not to mention, any planeswalker on the field is asking for opponents to level out the playing field by taking it out first. I think switching him out for True Conviction will give a nice boost to your deck!

Haunted Plate Mail : I already read some of the uncertainty you had about this card, and I am supportive of your feeling to take it out. It's situational, and it's underwhelming. While I do say to take this out, I think that there might be another card that has been mentioned that could replace this, like Darksteel Forge or Heliod, God of the Sun , both of which I agree are good for this deck. It might just be me and my style of deck building, but all of these "in case I get board wiped" cards (while completely justified because EDH sees a lot of board wipes) seems to only dilute the power of the Voltron aspect of this deck. I'm looking specifically at you, Eternal Dragon ...

TL;DR

Um, why no Leonin Shikari ? Do all the combat tricks! not to mention, awesome combo with Puresteel Paladin .

Great deck btw, +1

@mstancea

Trading Post : I love this card. Sure, it's a bit slow, but it provides incremental advantage. It also saves my equipment from exiling removal.

Ajani, Caller of the Pride : Already planning on dropping him for Gideon Jura . I want to keep this slot for a planeswalker. Gideon can become a creature whenever I need one and is a repeatable source of creature removal. His +2 also has synergy with Eight-and-a-Half-Tails by blanking an opponent's defenses. This synergy also helps against Sigarda, Host of Herons .

Haunted Plate Mail : Already planning on dropping it for Heliod, God of the Sun .

Eternal Dragon : This guy helps me a lot. With almost half of my landbase not tapping for White mana, having a cheap, colorless way to fetch a Plains is great, especially in my opening hand. It also fetches Mistveil Plains , has good synergy with Sword of Light and Shadow , and is a fat flier if I need one.

Darksteel Forge : Not going to bother. I tried it out and didn't like it. 9 mana can be a pain to get to sometimes, it has almost no board impact, and can come out too late to matter. My meta is also very White and most decks have Return to Dust . Black-White decks also use Merciless Eviction .

@yuval

I don't have a use for Leonin Shikari 's instant-speed equipping. Poetntial combat tricks mean nothing if only one creature is suited up most of the time and attacking alone. When Eight-and-a-Half-Tails is out, he holds all of the aggressive Equipment and they stay on him. Also, a lot of my creatures are utility dorks that I want to keep out of combat.

Worst case scenario, taking out Fireshrieker for True Conviction would be great imo.

Other than that, the only non-creature non-land I can imagine taking out would be Staff of Nin , but that's actually not that bad in this deck. Would you consider taking out a creature for True Conviction if the creature isn't better than Fireshrieker or Staff of Nin in this deck?

NensouHiebara says... #7

@mstancea

I don't want drop any more Equipment and Staff of Nin offers much needed extra card draw.

I am dropping Sunblast Angel for Windborn Muse . I could replace Sunblast with True Conviction instead.

MagicalHacker says... #8

Yeah, I would definitely take out Windborn Muse for True Conviction in this deck.

Test it out and see how it works. :D

Also, you seem astute with EDH stuff, so if you have time, could you look at my deck? The Price Is Right.

I suggest Grappling Hook for another double strike enabler, and for the access of essentially picking a creature to get rid of.

And Inquisitor's Flail for pseudo-double strike that can also stack on double strike for quad-damage and fun times.

September 28, 2013 10:16 p.m.

NensouHiebara says... #10

Someone suggest those a week ago.

I have no interest nor room for Inquisitor's Flail and I prefer double strike for combat advantage and multiple Sword triggers.

Grappling Hook costs too much for giving a single creature double strike and I have no real use for force-blocking when I want to win with Commander Damage.

I'm adding True Conviction to the deck anyway. 3 cards that offer double strike are enough.

Play all the swords, also Pariah's Shield is crazy broken with your general.

@essiga9

Sword of Body and Mind 's mill doesn't help me and just fuels the graveyard-based decks.

Sword of War and Peace was in the deck before. I dropped it as it was very lackluster. The extra damage barely did anything unless someone drew half their deck, which is infrequent. The extra life is insignificant compared to lifelink.

Pariah's Shield doesn't offer anything relevant for a Voltron strategy.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The other swords aren't really there for their abilities. They are there because they give protection from U/G and R/W respectively. Personally I'd run them WITHOUT the extra abilities just because of the protection. It's incredibly good.

agreed, its the pro color relevance that makes them great in this format

Skyfolk says... #15

I think the issue with Body and Mind is that it always fuels GY-focused decks, and the other reason is that the other swords already cover the colours, and I'm pretty sure he needed room for non-equipment cards.

Didn't read all comments so if this was mentioned before sorry for repeating it.

Why there is no anthem type cards? namely Angel of Jubilation , Angelic Voices , Call to Arms , Celestial Crusader , Glorious Anthem , Honor of the Pure , Kabira Vindicator , Kongming, "Sleeping Dragon" , Marshal's Anthem , Path of Bravery true it would be hard to find some of these or they would be expensive but having at least Glorious Anthem , Marshal's Anthem and Honor of the Pure would be worthy

October 1, 2013 9:34 a.m.

Skyfolk says... #17

Why would you want to use anthem effects in an equipment voltron deck? It's not like this is a token deck.

NensouHiebara says... #18

@greenstalker

I have no use for Anthem effects. They're better in token decks.

I do think that Eiganjo Castle is worth running. If you have some graveyard based decks Bonehoard could give you an extra boost. Mask of Avacyn I feel like should be included in here not just for your commander but to hexproof your own Leonin Abunas who is Hexproofing your equipment. Ring of Thune ? Sword of the Paruns ? Basilisk Collar just because having the option to get as much Deathouch/lifelink in here and out asap is always a good thing.

October 6, 2013 1:25 a.m.

NensouHiebara says... #20

@DukeNicky

Eiganjo Castle isn't really worth running. Preventing 2 damage to a single legendary creature has very limited applications.

Bonehoard varies too much. There's only a few graveyard decks in my meta and I don't see them every time I play. I'd much rather purge the graveyard, as it's a heavier blow against those decks.

Mask of Avacyn costs too much to equip for what you get, considering both Swiftfoot Boots an Champion's Helm offer hexproof in addition of another bonus each for an equip cost of 1. It's also bad early game, where its higher equip cost bites you.

Ring of Thune was in the deck before. Didn't really like it.

Sword of the Paruns is weak in a Voltron deck. I don't want to play 7 mana for +2/+0.

I've been considering Basilisk Collar for a while, but I could never find room for it as other cards had a higher priority.

October 6, 2013 10:16 a.m.

it would benefit from some more land i playtested it and was short 80% of the time

October 8, 2013 12:01 a.m.

Skyfolk says... #22

@phatpatdargonmaster51 36 land is ideal for Commander, you are aware you can partial paris mulligan, right?

October 8, 2013 9:08 a.m.

NensouHiebara says... #23

@phatpatdargonmaster51

I don't need more land. 36 has been fine for me and making cuts for land would be dreadful.

I'm been thinking of adding Burnished Hart . It's cheap, colorless Explosive Vegetation that's extremely easy to recur.

October 8, 2013 9:25 a.m.

something to help a lil with the land would be nice @Skyfolk and it 36 to 38 thats how i learned and the former head of mtgsalvation taught me how to play and i know you can partial im not stupid

October 8, 2013 8 p.m.

Skyfolk says... #25

Okay, so why would 36 be a problem then? Also being the head of a website doesn't mean you're a great player. And please try to use proper grammar when discussing things, it's hard to read exactly what you were trying to tell me. (Also it came across as incredibly rude and condescending.)
