This started as a joke deck in theory and turned out to surprise me. It was completely metagamed to my standard environment so I can't recommend it to everyone, but it preys upon humans, midrange, and control decks. The current build cannot beat zombies, but luckily the midrange Thragtusk decks have kept them from showing up recently.
The main draw to stopping aggro decks for me was Augur of Bolas I started with 4 and 25 land, but felt like I needed the 26th so I went down to 3. It helps against the decks with Thalia, Guardian of Thraben especially when on the draw. Augur helps slow down the pressure of a turn 2 Thalia by slowing them down enough & making them over-commit into a Supreme Verdict.
Augur made the Instant/Sorcery count want to be high enough so you could get value, and I wanted to have a few catch-all cards which you see in Detention Sphere. Therefore the deck had to limit its planeswalker count. Honestly, I hadn't been too happy with Tamiyo, the Moon Sage (which most people swear by) or Jace, Architect of Thought lately. Both were sub-par against Jund and just gave my deck more targets for them to
Dreadbore
or destroy with Vraska the Unseen.
Overall, you get to play the best cards in the format. The only card that I wish I could play in the deck that the mana can't support is Garruk, Primal Hunter, who I have come to realize is by far the best planeswalker in the standard format. I thought that it was Jace, then I thought it was Sorin, Lord of Innistrad, but it didn't take me long to realize Big Garruk is so powerful because he makes huge dudes that trade with Thragtusk and allows you to draw a lot of cards. Luckily this deck knows how to draw cards. The reason why this deck works is because of Sphinx's Revelation. You cannot play less than 3 in this deck. It's what makes the deck work and was honestly the reason why I felt like I didn't need things like Jace, Architect of Thought - although he may eventually find his way into the deck (hopefully).
Last thing - the mana. The deck has 15 white sources, 14 blue sources, 8 black sources, 7 red sources, and 6 green sources + a Cavern of Souls to cast either Sigarda, Host of Herons or Thragtusk. I initially had 7 black & 7 green + a cavern, but I found myself not having enough black sources to reliably have it to flash back Lingering Souls - which actually doesn't matter too much since you either Wrath of God shortly after against the aggressive decks and don't want to flash it back immediately. Same for against control decks - you don't want to over-commit into a Terminus or Supreme Verdict. You don't want to get blown out by Bonfire of the Damned for 1 against Jund either. The only matchup where you want to flash back Lingering Souls immediately is against Reanimator. You need to put them on a clock.
Please feel free to comment if you have any questions. I'd love to explain my decisions as to why I played certain cards over other ones - if I havn't covered everything here. I won't say that everyone will enjoy playing the deck because it isn't very forgiving, but I definitely advocate the deck to anyone who loves playing Desperate Ravings over Think Twice. It definitely rewards play skill. Thanks again for everyone who took the time to read this and look at the deck! I wish you all success in your endeavors.
