Cards to put in:

Artifacts: Sol Ring, Darksteel Ingot, Commander's Sphere, Rakdos Signet, Boros Signet and other ramp. Maybe some card draw like Skullclamp and sac outlets like Ashnod's Altar. If your creatures are gonna die anyway, may as well get some value off 'em.

Enchantments: Cards like Bloodfire Infusion, Power of Fire, Lightning Prowess, Lavamancer's Skill, Fire Whip, and Aspect of Gorgon and Retreat to Hagra. More things that grant the abilities you're wanting to dish out. Maybe some card draw like Phyrexian Arena would be good here too.

Creatures: More things with deathtouch. Odric, Lunarch Marshal, Harvester of Souls. That's all I've got right now.

Sorceries: Chandra's Ignition?!?!? How'd this not make the cut? Also other wipes. Especially stuff that gets rid of non-creature permanents. Heck, maybe even Armageddon. Tutors could be here too. Maybe some card draw.

Instants: Pretty good with what you've got in here. Needs a bit more removal probably. Non-creature and creature. You could try Arcbond for a fun time.

That's about all I've got for now. Definitely missing some stuff.

Ookie dokee. Before I begin, it's gonna sound like I'm ripping apart your deck and taking the wheel, but with some adjustments this deck can really kick some serious ass. First of all, this is not standard legal, so you might wanna swap the format to modern or casual :)

Lightning Prowess does not help you here, as vamps grow bigger after combat damage. I know it helps with Blinding Blade but honestly that is too slow for a fast paced tribe like vamps. Mark of the Vampire is certainly on flavor here, but honestly with your vamps getting bigger, you'll want to replace those with Gruesome Deformity to help you vamps deal damage and get bigger.

Vampire Nocturnus only really works with mono black vamps, and Stromkirk Patrol is also pretty slow. With decks like this, the mana limit should really only be 4 or at absolute max 5 if the card is absolutly needed. Diabolic Tutor is also a good card, but due to the casting cost I would really only limit yourself to 2 copies max, or cutting it all together.

If we take those cards out, we are left with (I think) 16 slots. As I mentioned earlier, Gruesome Deformity is a cheap way to let your vamps get bigger and deal damage, so I would include 3. Rakish Heir is a nightmare to deal with, especially in multiples so I would throw in 4. Lightning Bolt is a staple for any deck playing red, so I'd throw in 3. That leaves us with 6 spots left, and as a replacement buff, I would put in a playset of Curse of Stalked Prey and 2 Markov Blademaster. So, in the end, you would end up cutting:

and adding:

I think these replacements will lead to smoother gameplay and more wins on your part. As with any deck, lands like Bloodstained Mire, Dragonskull Summit and Blood Crypt are not needed but certainly help, and removal like Terminate or Dreadbore is usually an upgrade to Doom Blade, however in most decks you'll do fine without making these changes. Always glad to meet another vamp player, and I hope this helps!

PS feel free to check out my vamp deck, Just for Shits n' Giggles

Perhaps a bunch of Chord of Calling which can tutor for Welder Automaton? Replaces Banefire as more useful card.

Likewise, maybe Open the Armory tutoring for Lightning Prowess or Freed from the Real?

To cast Rakdos, Lord of Riots you need to be 100% sure of dealing combat damage at turn 4. It really depends on what kind of opponent you're facing. If your little damagers are blocked or removed, no Rakdos, Lord of Riots for you.

You can also design other ways to do free damage at turn 4. Examples are countless:

The other route is "not casting it":

  • Fleshwrither's unique put-into-play-from-library ability that works because both rakdos and this horrific guy cost 4 mana total (not doable on turn 4)

  • using things that let you put it into play from your hand like Through the Breach or Quicksilver Amulet

  • putting Rakdos into the graveyard and reanimating it directly into play. This is the way Reanimator decks cheat powerful creatures (Griselbrand) into play. You have to: (1) find your Rakdos from your library and (2) put him into your graveyard, (3) reanimate it, (4) in some cases find a way to dodge the reanimation spell drawbacks. It's tricky, see that a deck that does this needs the whole deck built around this single combo (http://www.channelfireball.com/articles/grishoalbrand-deck-tech-and-guide/)

I recommend the two following articles:

  • how to handle Rakdos Lord of Riots (http://www.gatheringmagic.com/andrew-wilson-rakdos-return-to-ravnica-keyword-121112-paincast/)

  • suggestions for a Rakdos Commander list (http://legitmtg.com/casual/their-agony-and-the-ecstasy/) that has a huge number of synergic card suggestions (not always modern-legal eh!)

(sorry but external links weren't appearing. you will have to copypaste)
