Hour of Devastation Update!!!!
Daedalus19876, 8 years ago
So, unlike my Avacyn, the Purifier Flip deck, this list got several major updates from Hour of Devastation. In no particular order:
IN: Fraying Sanity, Razaketh, the Foulblooded, Lotus Cobra
OUT: Makeshift Mannequin, Tempt with Immortality, and Oversold Cemetery

Hour of Devestation and what it brings
Teddyjunior11, 8 years ago
So as you all know HOU is coming out friday. Luckily I opened a Claim / Fame so i have been able to test it in the Shadow shell. It seems great. The main problem I had with it was trying to jam too many copies. This card is great for the deck. But the shell is so tight. That I only found a place to make room for one. I simply cut the utility spell electrolyze as it was not performing best in the mirror and against Eldrazi Tron. Anyway Friday will be the first night to legally play it at REL events. Super excited!! Results coming within the day or two after FNM
Pricing

As of the time of building this deck, according to the Decked Builder app using TCG Mid (as per our rules) and the "find cheapest set" function, the deck cost $29.39 when you remove the cost of the basic lands and commander.
Minor change

Because this deck became creature heavy, and to save on cost, the Snow-Covered Mountain were replaced with Mountain due to the switch from Extraplanar Lens to Caged Sun
Update #2

Nothing really to report - the deck has been humming along just fine. Made a few changes after noting some clunkiness/lack of things to do each turn: -Farhaven Elf & Wood Elves +Farseek & Sakura-Tribe Elder Pretty simple - as the Elf tribal is no longer relevant, I downsized the mana cost for the same effect. Minus one creature, but I don't think it's too bad as the creature was only a 1/1 to begin with. -Creeping Dread +Parallel Lives Every time Creeping Dread was available to me, it was overkill, both in needing more discard outlets and the mana cost for the impact. In addition, it doesn't take effect until my entire next turn. It was an experiment, it didn't pan out, so out it goes for a card that will end up doing much more work with making more Elf Warrior tokens. -Garruk, Primal Hunter +Driven / Despair As soon as this card was revealed, I knew I wanted it for this deck. I draw cards, my opponent discards cards, and it's an anthem to give my creatures evasion? Yes please. Essentially, it's 4 mana to give all my creatures Trample, Menace, Draw a card and my opponent discards a card whenever they connect. Garruk doesn't really do much with the lack of big creatures, so drawing cards is situational and difficult. In addition, 3 Garruk Planeswalkers can be clunky if they all come up, so cutting one doesn't seem to be losing too much. -Liliana Vess +Throne of the God-Pharaoh Once I have a decent sized token army, I need something to do with it. This artifact is so cheap and so easy to hit everyone at the table for an additional 10-20 points of damage once the elf army is there. I'll be seeing how it plays and whether it's worth it or not. Liliana is coming out due to it's +1 being lackluster by comparison and it's -2 being a tad too slow for a tutor effect that goes on top of the library. -In Garruk's Wake +Bontu's Last Reckoning I'm not convinced by this change, but I want to see how much another cheap wrath effect helps in comparison to a much more expensive one. The drawback might be too severe, but I'll see how this plays in future games before deciding if it's permanently in or not. -Forest +Reliquary Tower Could have sworn I added this forever ago, but apparently not. Now it's there. As an aside, I'm looking at adding Torment of Hailfire, but need to acquire one first.

Fine tuning #1

Deck is good in theory and tests but it performed horribly in practice.
Replaced a few basic lands with: Cinder Barrens, Cinder Marsh, Lantern-Lit Graveyard, Painted Bluffs
I think this is 1 of those decks where slow lands are a great budget option. They can be used to pay colourless cost & the primary objective is to cheat stuff into play.
Creatures:
Out: Flamewake Phoenix, Chandra's Phoenix, Cadaver Imp, Skulking Ghost, Lobber Crew, and Coldsteel heart
In:
Cunning Sparkmage, Vulshok Sorcerer, Tunneling Geopede, Retreat to Hagra - Ping without attacking
Sky Scourer - Cheap flying Eldrazi for theme
Ulamog's Despoiler - Got it a pack

why play berya
syboud101, 8 years ago
she allows the deck builder to take a couple of different routes while building the deck. you could go for a more casual artifact beat down with a reanimate package. which will allow the pilot to play a wild range of different type of answer for creature, planeswalker, and artifacts etc.... but this play-style opens you up to lose to the fast combo deck at the table if you don't have the answer when they are trying to win within the first three to four turns of the game. you will just lose if no one else at the table has an answer that why i decide to go with an all in combo version of the deck it allows to me to play some answers ,but still gives me the chance to win within the first four turns of the game. with breya being a four-color you are not lacking combos by any means. you just need to know which ones are worth running

Cathars' Crusade in for Malignus because Malignus doesn't fit well into this deck because he keeps getting chopped down with the extra combat steps.
Anointed Procession in for Grand Abolisher because Grand Abolisher doesn't really fit into a combat oriented deck.
Hanweir Militia Captain Flip in for Cloudshift because Cloudshift isn't as versatile in a token deck. The only thing I'd use it for is to blink Aurelia to get an extra combat but this deck already has enough ways to get extra combat so Cloudshift didn't offer enough value compared to another token maker/beater if you're lucky

I'll take a free 4/4

Main deck
-
adding 4x Hollow One to main deck
-
adding Lavaclaw Reaches: good mana sink for all the excess mana you produce off of waste not
Sideboard
-
adding a Echoing Truth: need some answer to enchantments
-
adding 3x Surgical Extraction: get rid of nasty combos, works well with Fulminator Mage for tron
