Testing with Lord of the Void, the deck is currently no longer Gorgon control. .

Going to put this deck on hold. Overhauled the deck from the list I made, it still needs tweaking and some sideboard suggestions. I can add some modern hand hate like in my Havoc Festival build or substitute the smaller CMC mill cards for more heavier mill cards.
I will post when I get everything and will comment on how it plays.

So I dont know if Hythonia the Cruel is actually very good. I havent played her once, let alone monstrastitied her. Im thinking some other big beater, like the one that gives you 1/1 fliers for your devotion, or even Lord of the Void, might be better.
I'm also not sure if I want Liliana's Reaver instead of my Insatiable Harpy. The lifelink from the harpy is really good in this deck because of Underworld Connections, but the reaver is just more powerful. Maybe even Deathgaze Cockatile is ok? It has deathtouch which is often good, and I always love evasion, but I think reaver is just way better.
What do y'all think (Oksisane you better comment, you too johnchan)?

So this round of changes has left a bittersweet taste in my mouth. On the upside, I've included one of the best cards to come out of Dragon's Maze in my Main Board: AEtherling! One of the main issues for Mono-Blue Devotion is going to the late game. Often times the deck runs out of steam and lacks that big "bomb" to seal the deal when there isn't a lot of Devotion on the board, and that is exactly where AEtherling comes in. Another positive change I believe is the inclusion of a 3rd Omenspeaker to improve virtual card quality through additional Scry triggers. Now for the bad news I guess. For the time being I have removed Prognostic Sphinx from the Main Board. Now before anyone goes all aggro on me this change is not a reflection of the Sphinx's performance but just a temporary change (hopefully) as I needed to make room for changes. Rounding out my updates was the removal of Mizzium Skin from my Sideboard which I'm also kind of iffy about.
v1.9
Changes:
+1x AEtherling MB
-2x Prognostic Sphinx MB
+1x Omenspeaker MB
-2x Mizzium Skin SB

Took out some high cost creatures. Put in a bit more land and some low drop creatures including Cloudfin Raptor and Judges Familiar.
Sphinx's Revelation...Well, Kinda.

Here's my first big round of changes. First, the importance and impact of Pithing Needle cannot be stressed enough and only having one in my sideboard to deal with the likes of Planeswalkers, opposing Thassa, God of the Sea, and things like Whip of Erebos just wasn't cutting it. My next revelation was one of a certain Sphinx, Prognostic Sphinx that is. This guy is just awesome with a 3/5 body strapped onto a pair of wings, the ability to become Hexproof without having mana up, and Scrying 3 whenever you turn him sideways! I really wanted to include him as a "2 of" so that I'd increase my chances of drawing him later game without worrying about starting the game off with a fist full of 5-drops. I am sad that I had to take out my Claustrophobia because not only did it help to thwart big threats like Desecration Demon, but I've learned the importance of providing noncreature sources of Devotion like Jace, Architect of Thought and Bident of Thassa to prevent Thassa, God of the Sea from being prematurely "shutdown". I'd like to be able to fit it back in at 1 or 2 but we'll have to see. Another card I was sad to let go, at least for the time being, was Domestication from my sideboard. Domestication is such a great card in not only the mirror, where you can steal an opposing Thassa, God of the Sea only to choose to have it go to the graveyard due to the new Legendary rules, but also good against other creature match-ups where you can steal big cards like Stormbreath Dragon to push through for lethal. It also was another great source of noncreature Devotion that I was hesitant to let go, but maybe after future tweaks it'll find it's way back into the deck.
v1.5
Changes:
-1x Claustrophobia MB
-1x Judge's Familiar MB
+2x Prognostic Sphinx MB
-1x Domestication SB
+1x Pithing Needle SB

Well what can i say 4 rounds flawless victory i won 2:0 all my games, was close at times my deck really had all the right answers for the situation and devotion really solves the problem of when they manage to get a good field advantage over me.

i won2:0
2:1
2:0
2:1
With Red deck i had to think hard about when was best time to play my spells unlike in the past there are a lot of solid decks out there so even though red is easy to play i still need to think. This deck is a solid build, each card has meaning and can be justified.

Reworked the sideboard to deal with Esper control that I'm coming up against regularly at my LGS. Skullcrack shuts down the lifegain from Sphinx's Revelation which has been an issue.

Comment!

Comment on the deck! I find that when I have to explain card choices or answer comments on my decks I can flush the ideas out more. I'll be running this deck on MTGO over the holiday next week but questions and comment are always appreciated!
+ Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver/Elixir of Immortality
markr3ymd, 11 years ago
So i noticed that our win conditions are somewhat thin, so i added Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver which mills our opponents, creates card advantage technically, and "gains us life". Elixir of Immortality is a good weapon against those burn decks, while replenishing our stocks of bounce/draw/countermagic in our library. Plus it prevents us dying from our own Whispering Madness.
Man up!

Well while I enjoy playing with a broken card like Elspeth, Knight Erant I decided to pick flavor over power and give Gideon Jura the lead on this deck. To make things even manlier I got rid of my Brave the Elements and Path of Bravery adding more tokens with a second Captain's Call and the return of Elite Inquisitor
+ Consuming Aberration/Elixir of Immortality
markr3ymd, 11 years ago
So i noticed that our win conditions are somewhat thin, so i added the Consuming Aberration which is effectively a one or two turn clock, while milling our opponents in the process. Mind Grind adds to the win cons, as it usually is lethal when we cast it, especially post Traumatize. It's more of a taste preference, you can stock more on Consuming Aberration or on Mind Grind. Elixir of Immortality is a good weapon against those burn decks, while replenishing our stocks of bounce/draw/countermagic in our library. Plus it prevents us dying from our own Whispering Madness.![Whispering Madness feature for [BUDGET 25$] UB Mad(ness) bro?](http://static.tappedout.net/mtg-cards-2/commander-2016/whispering-madness/mtg-cards/_user-added/femme_fatale-whispering-madness-c16-14785856970.png)

Record: 1-3
It just isn't fast enough. I don't have the explosive power needed to overcome red devotion and anything with 3 or more toughness effectively shuts me down completely. I'm not sure what all else to do. As an additional note, I had to replace one Gods Willing with Brave the Elements and the 4 copies of Soldier of the Pantheon with Dryad Militant though the Soldier's abilities didn't seem too relevant in my matches today. I could at least try to replace the Truefire Paladin set with Phalanx Leader to compensate for the times I wasn't able to play the former. I guess I'll try that.

Trying Ashen Rider over Angel of Despair to see how useful the exile effect is and if losing the extra life to Reanimate it is worth it.

Added Viscera Seer.

So, I tried to simplify this deck. Eliminated some one-ofs, had to shift my mana pool towards white because of the increased number of WW creatures. I noticed that I'm still missing my creature drops, so I added a couple more lands.
