Feb 11th 4-0

A storm hurt the first days turnout, and with a couple dropping after round 2 there were no playoffs.

Round 1: Mono Blue brain in the jar 2-1

The first round he kept hitting me with Chilling Grasp and Grip of the Roil, allowing him to safely cast his draw spells and load counters on Brain in a Jar. The penultimate turn was an Engulf the Shore followed by an instant speed Rise from the Tides which allowed him to swing with 14 zombies on his turn. Once I knew to play my Blossoming Defenses more freely I was able to whittle him down game 2, and with a Lost Legacy and 2 Transgress the Mind in my opening hand game three was a breeze.

Round 2: Mirror match vs energy variant 2-0

I got the removal I needed when I needed it and had 2 Winding Constrictor on the board both games, through either luck or skill these games were easy.

Round 3: Copycat 2-0

Nothing remarkable here, Grasp of Darkness to kill the cat, Walking Ballista to kill saheeli game one. Lost Legacy opening hand, targeting Saheeli turn 3 for a scoop game 2.

Round 4: U/B Improvise 2-0

The first game I was again very lucky with removal, Fatal Push dealt with 2 Ornithopter hit with Tezzeret's Touch that would have otherwise burst me down, and by the time he had his Cathar's Shield enhanced Barricade Breaker I was able to power past for the win. Game 2 was the only time I ended up using Ruinous Path but it saved my ass vs a turn 3 Herald of Anguish and then a turn 4 Barricade Breaker.

Feb 12th 5-1

Round 1: The same Mono blue brain in the jar from day one 2-0

Game 1 I topped decked the only mainboard Lost Legacy on turn 3 and removed his Rise from the Tides, game 2 a few Transgress the Mind and Blossoming Defense along with a delayed Brain in the Jar made this one easy. (I also side boarded incorrectly leaving in a Fatal Push, which came in very handy when he used Part the Waterveil for it's awaken cost on game 2)

Round 2: R/W Human aggro 0-2

Extremely fast starts coupled with several Declaration in Stone allowed him to steam roll me both games. His all stars aside from Declaration in Stone were Thalia's Lieutenant and Metallic Mimic.

Round 3: Copycat 2-0

Much the same as the day before, with Grasp of Darkness, Walking Ballista, Lost Legacy and Transgress the Mind all at my disposal copy cat doesn't stand a chance.

Round 4: U/B improvise 2-0

The same deck as the day before with the same result, a powerful deck that is easily toppled with (decent?/lucky?) removal and his inability to draw into Metallic Rebuke when he needed it.

Play offs

Round 1 Our old friend R/W human aggro 2-1

Three drawn out grueling matches, Fatal Push and Walking Ballista were indispensable, removing his Metallic Mimics as soon as they hit the board, and blasting past his gideon game three with ballista allowed me to get my revenge, albeit by a slim margin. (could not for the life of me draw my Yahenni's Expertise)

Round 2 R/B Zombies 2-1

It felt as if I was dominating game one, mostly thanks too Winding Constrictor and Glint-Sleeve Siphoner getting me an extra draw every single turn. This came back to bite me when he was able to flip Voldaren Pariah   and finish me with 2 swings and a Fiery Temper. Game 2 I was once again saved by Lost Legacy, this time getting rid of his Prized Amalgam. Game 3 I played 3 Walking Ballista, a Winding Constrictor and 2 Nissa, Voice of Zendikar, poor guy never knew what hit him.

Feb 10th 6-0(two three round events)

I lost 2 games all night, both of which were because I was mana screwed, the rest of the rounds were all 2-0-0. The addition of more duals allowed me to play Drana, Liberator of Malakir reliably, and having 6 removal mainboard made me very comfortable in aggro and mid range match ups. Transgress the Mind and Ruinous Path replace Fatal Push, Grasp of Darkness, and Aetherborn Marauder in control matchups allowing me to deal with their win conditions and outlast their counters. I'm considering working a couple Lost Legacy into the sideboard just to have another way to deal with the copy cat combo, however tonight I beat a 4 color and a 3 color copy cat deck with just grasp, transgress and Walking Ballista.

This version of the deck also won 2 mirror matches which I was quite pleased with.

Feb 3rd 2-2

I'd like to blame these losses on bad luck but I'm starting to see the problem with Durable Handicraft. It encourages tapping out when maybe saving a forest for Blossoming Defense would be the wise option. If you get it in your opening hand with a constrictor you'll likely steamroll to a quick lead, but several times tonight I topped decked it late game when I really needed a creature or removal spell. With a heavy heart it's being demoted tentatively to the SB.

I also had a great deal of trouble vs U/B control. Grasp of Darkness and To the Slaughter made sure anything that wasn't countered was promptly sniped. The build I played lacked the removal to stop his creatures. In response to this I'm going to work Transgress the Mind into my sideboard and card:blossoming defence into my main.

With all of those experiences under my belt I feel I've patched some big holes and I'm hopeful for next weeks game day.

Jan. 27th 3-1

The one loss was a result of being mana screwed both games vs R/W vehicles of all things, turn 6-7 with only 2 lands. As a result i've dropped one Animation Module and one forest and added 2 more swamp bringing the total lands to 23.

The only deck to really make me fight for the win was a mono-blue control, but in the end Walking Ballista won the day, unloading his counters in response to repeated bounces. Honorable mention going to Aetherborn Marauder offering some crucial lifegain late game vs an 8/8 octopus token.

The idea is pretty straight forward, take advantage of Winding Constrictor to make some already very powerful creatures suddenly much more potent.

Vs. heavy planeswalker or creature combo decks board in Ruinous Path / Fatal Push, Vs. control Blossoming Defense and Transgress the Mind.

Lost Legacy is also proving itself to be invaluable, removing control win conditions, destroying copy cat decks, basically crippling just about any combo deck, its fantastic.

After being swarmed by a human aggro and token decks I'm now also considering Yahenni's Expertise as a pseudo reset button.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be very welcome.
