This deck doesn't have a graveyard... it has a scrapyard! Although this may look like an artifact deck, it is actually mostly a graveya I mean scrapyard-based deck.
This deck combines a combo based strategy with burn. The combo consists of discarding any big artifact creature and then bringing it back with
Trash for Treasure
. The burn part can be played using cards like Shrapnel Blast or
Scrapyard Salvo
. If youre feeling particularly nasty, combine the two and Shrapnel Blast your Perilous Myr or
Scuttling Doom Engine
to smithereens! In a meantime, use those small artifact creatures to chump block yourself into the late game, and bring them back over and over and over again!
The fun part is that your opponent will likely sideboard in artifact hate which you dont care about, because most artifacts actually want to end up rusting on the scrapyard, and there are tons of ways to bring them back anyway! As I stated before, this deck really is a graveyard-based deck in disguise!
Lets disassemble this rusted machine, shall we?
Win condition/ the cheat:
Trash for Treasure
: What is that, you say? A turn 3
Wurmcoil Engine
? Can do! Make sure you have the Wurmcoil in your graveyard and an artifact in play (preferably a Perilous Myr for 2 extra damage!). The chance of meeting these conditions is quite high, as most cards in your deck are discard spells and/or cheap artifacts.
Semblance Anvil: If Trash for Treasure fails. Also, this makes most of your smaller artifacts free to cast!
Big artifact finishers:
Wurmcoil Engine
: Needs no explanation, always good and hard to remove. Also, the lifelink comes in handy because you may have had to take some hits before reaching the late game.
Scuttling Doom Engine
: An engine that cant be chump blocked, and doesnt care if it gets destroyed. Shrapnel Blast it for some spectacular results!
Sundering Titan: Nice play against decks with a greedy mana base. This titan absolutely tears them apart. Be careful though, you might have to sacrifice your own mountain too!
Pyromancer's Goggles: This can get out of hand quickly! Use this with Shrapnel Blast and Perilous Myr for a mere 12 damage. Speed up Faithless Looting, or bring back TWO Scuttling Doom Engines with
Trash for Treasure
!
Discard spells:
Faithless Looting: Love this card. You can discard your big artifacts turn 1, or delve deeper into that pile of cards to find what you need! Very versatile card that you absolutely need here.
Sliversmith
: If you dont draw a Faithless Looting in your opening hand, you probably will draw this. It can discard any card at instant speed, and it gives you another chump blocker in the proces. Exchange some excess land for a 1/1 sliver artifact token. Sounds good?
Trading Post: The Swiss army knife of the deck. Yes, it is a bit expensive, but it gives you much value. Discard at instant speed for 4 life!
Burn / removal:
Scrapyard Salvo
: This card can do a lot of damage in the late game, and your opponent wont see it coming, as this card is fairly unknown. Still this is no good on the first turns or even in the midgame, so I only run 2. Cannot be used on creatures, but combos nicely with Pyromancer's Goggles.
Shrapnel Blast: 5 damage for 2 mana at instant speed is a deal. 7 damage for 2 mana is even better ( Perilous Myr ). 11 damage for 2 mana is gold (
Scuttling Doom Engine
Galvanic Blast: I might change this one to Lightning Bolts, because Im not sure there will be three artifacts on the battlefield very often.
Chump blockers / stallers:
Perilous Myr: Very good blocker, can kill a x/3, or just chump block and shock the opponent. Solid fodder for sacrificial strategies.
Steel Wall: This will hold off the opponents for the first few turns. 0/4 for only 1 mana isnt too bad. I might change this one to Spellskite in the future though.
Sliversmith
: creates sliver tokens at instant speed, but can be a chump blocker itself too.
Myr Retriever: can block and give you a Perilous Myr back.
Utility:
Pyrite Spellbomb
: Repeatable burn. Draws cards. Fodder for Semblance Anvil. And more!
Arcbound Ravager: Can block, but is better at removing removal. Can sacrifice Perilous Myr or
Scuttling Doom Engine
fors ome free extra damage. Never bad.
Mana Base:
Darksteel Citadel: Artifact land. Interacts well with almost any card in this deck.
Buried Ruin
: Can recycle your artifacts. Not very cheap, but its always good to have the option, no?
Rootbound Crag:
Copperline Gorge
is probably better, but I dont have any. I included this to only cast Destructive Revelry anyway.
Mountain: For flavour purposes only. Mirrodin lands to have a lovely view on the scrapyard. Oh, and provides red mana too.
Sideboard:
Destructive Revelry: because you need to get rid of enchantments, Stony Silence being a prime target.
Slag Fiend
: Good versus matchups that use a lot of artifacts too, such as R/G Tron and Affinity. The Fiend is no good mainboard, because too often there arent enough artifacts in the graveyard.
Pithing Needle: Very versatile card and an artifact as well. Pins down planeswalkers, Twin, but also Relic of Progenitus, which can cause a world of hurt for this deck.
Crumble to Dust
: Against Tron. I play in a Tron-heavy meta. Ive seen the beautiful city of Dordrecht being called Trondrecht once
Whipflare: when you need to control hordes of small creatures.
Ratchet Bomb
: Might change those to Engineered Explosives. Gets rid of tokens. Use against B/W tokens, Twin, Affinity and more.
Dismember: More removal. Its hard for this deck to get rid of big creatures.
Guttural Response
: Control players wont see it coming. They really wont. Except when they will.
I'm very open to suggestions, please share them if you've got any!
