I love when comments are novels, unfortunately right now I do not have the time, but here's what I got.

  1. I also wish so many more Simic cards were as brutal as they looked, they can get there but they are usually too slow. Bummer right! Also the flavor text in Mystic Genesis is my favorite, especially for this deck.

  2. 1 Master Biomancer out? Maybe, we'll see. Trying out Elusive Krasis in place of either 2-3 Experiment One or Dreg Mangler ? Certainly. I've used that unblockable beater before in some earlier more casual play and he's good, very good, but I just wasn't sure about him here. I suppose when people see unblockable and the potential to grow, he's just another target that they may have to choose from with all the targets that I have in this deck, so that alone could make him better then my plant zombie.

  3. The Lotleth Troll ... O man, he would be great but I can't bring myself to use him- yet. Maybe if I put in Deadbridge Chant or Bow of Nylea or something else to utilize my graveyard he would be in, but right now I want my creatures on the battlefield. He actually works very well with Dreg Mangler and Slitherhead for that matter but like I said, still unsure here.

  4. Abrupt Decay in. Got it. The charms- wonderful. But Simic Manipulator . I know the downside to him, again I've played him for fun as well, but I think he might avoid removal sometimes because they don't expect him to be a threat- let me put this scenario in your mind. Late game- I have a Biomancer, Prophet, and Menace on the field, which can definitely happen, and I drop in a Simic Manipulator (a 4/5) on their turn. Untap on my turn steal their god right away. I want to try him out because of his underdog factor on the chance he will be very ignored in the meta. If not, they take out him instead of the Biomancer! But again- it needs a little more testing and the Manipulator doesn't test all that well on this site ha.

Sorry I hadn't up voted that deck before, but it is done, rest assured.

Thanks again!

Lotleth Troll has nothing to do with the graveyard other than pumping him, which when he's used properly, really should only occur instantaneously if needed, just so you're not needlessly chucking creatures (though you have more than enough creatures, you can use him to benefit from the ones you don't need in your hand. That is when it's okay to chuck Slitherhead and Dreg Mangler and the like. By himself, he's a hard-to-kill beat stick. I tend to like him most for when I don't want to carry dead weight (late game low-drops). Think of him that way.

Give / Take is great for Simic Manipulator cuz you can drop 3 counters on him and at the very least steal their Nightveil Specter or Boros Reckoner .

In playtesting, I found 22 mana and 4x Sylvan Caryatid to be mana-starved too often. you've got a heft curve there, especially in the 4-drop slot.

If it were me, I'd cut like 4 cards and put in 4 lands (you can scry them to the bottom if you're flooding out). Or you could put in mana dorks like Elvish Mystic or even Manaweft Sliver or Voyaging Satyr because they are good with Garruk, Caller of Beasts and Master Biomancer and Evolve triggers.

Vorel of the Hull Clade costs too much to activate and feels win-more.

Nylea, God of the Hunt solves a problem you don't actually have: sure she gives your guys evasion, but you already have a creatures with flying and some with trample.

try -1x Nylea, -2x Vorel, +3x Voyaging Satyr or something like that.

This deck is STARVED for mana. Don't forget, you want to be able to hit your 4, 5, and 6 drops quick, and if possibly you want to be able to keep up mana for your Simic Charm and Golgari Charm to protect your team... In a deck like this, I'd really like to see 25 lands and 4-7 mana dorks and you're VERY short right now.

Alright finally decided to pull the trigger on a couple decisions. It's about time right?

Lotleth Troll is in for help in what he does best.

Elvish Mystic for quicker ramp.

Drop some Experiment One along with 1 Nylea, God of the Hunt and half of my Vorel of the Hull Clade as they seem less necessary but still helpful.

Thank you all so much for commenting and helping me build this! Thoughts now?

a couple Rapid Hybridization , at least sideboarded for removal. Otherwise, looks fun :)

I do already have Putrefy and an Abrupt Decay but how much removal do you think I would need?

January 21, 2014 6:46 p.m.

thewyzman says... #7

depends what you're facing. That might be enough, but if you face much Esper decks, or Orzhov control, watch out for Blood Baron of Vizkopa . Neither of those will hit him... I just find RH as a versatile removal card in Simic style decks. Also keep Annul in mind if your opponent is playing gods.

Zicca21 says... #8

Very true... I could also use Mutant's Prey but that's not as effective. As of right now, if there are gods bugging me I'm going to try and sideboard in Simic Manipulator to steal them.

Would Polukranos, World Eater be good for this deck, even as a one of so as to not crowd my 4 drop?

Also what are peoples thoughts on Hindervines ??

January 21, 2014 9:12 p.m.

thewyzman says... #9

Hindervines is too situational. Polukranos is best against aggro, but pretty much good in any deck since it's that good by itself. It does gain counters, which fits this deck, but I'm pretty sure doubling the counters it gains won't effect the monstrous damage effect.

January 21, 2014 9:27 p.m.

Zicca21 says... #10

No I don't think it would effect the monstrous damage but he can then take more hits as well and having him double up counters isn't so bad either. Plus he is kind of removal by himself, but also a solid chance of being removed... He'll likely stay out still for now. Thanks for the input thewyzman!!

hey thanks for the comments on my deck. i have taken a little look at your deck ( currently abroad and not to much time ) and i like it a lot. its much more creature heavy than mine ( i like control decks which is what i tried for first before counters :D ). but all and all i like it!!!!!

have you ever considered Wild Beastmaster with Bioshift ? it can be a nasty combination and make swinging just stupid! not to mention the counters you have to abuse! ( it was suggested in my comment section, but i already run a deck with that combo). Also with Corpsejack Menace it is doubly effective!and really who doesn't like to hit for stupid numbers! :D

im actually a fan of Simic Manipulator i think it could be a lot of fun and it would work super well with Prophet of Kruphix . you can probably see a trend with my suggestions, i like to do the far-fetched ideas, when pulled off are seriously fun.

it definitely deserves a +1 at the very least! nice building.

O the Wild Beastmaster ... I haven't thought of her for a while though when I first started playing magic (Return to Ravnica) I did often test her out in my Golgari decks trying to boost her with counters but I have not yet gone back. I suppose she is great with Master Biomancer out so she can hit the ground running. And definitely great with Bioshift especially with a Corpsejack Menace on the field.

I just don't know where I would find a place for her, I have so many other cards to try and play. Also I'm not sure if a full team attack is how this deck ends up winning, it's usually through Kalonian Hydra and a couple other big counter guys.

Thanks for the support on Simic Manipulator as well. I do like trying to make good and effective decks but one must have fun while playing magic or else it isn't worth it!

the counters on Wild Beastmaster are until end of turn, not permanent, so I don't think Bioshift affects them, unless you permanently transfer counters onto her from another creature before declaring attacks.

Simic Manipulator will probably get more consideration when Kiora's Follower comes out.

January 22, 2014 12:58 p.m.

thewyzman says... #14

between Kiora, the Crashing Wave , Kiora's Follower , and Triton Tactics , Simic might finally get the combat control it needs without leaning on Prophet of Kruphix . I'm a little more excited about prospects for the guild, and I'll probably start thinking of a future build myself.

splint says... #15

i dont see how counters on Wild Beastmaster are untill end of turn. sure her buffs to others is! but her counters stay there with Bioshift .i think your miss-reading her ability.

but she is (imo) just a fun card to have huge counters floating about.

January 22, 2014 2:17 p.m.

splint says... #16

but i do agree with you for Simic Manipulator and Kiora's Follower that would work well :D

January 22, 2014 2:19 p.m.

Zicca21 says... #17

Yeah you could just Bioshift counters to her and leave them there, then every turn she attacks everyone else gets a bonus as well. Though I am liking this upcoming untap combo! That may even allow Gyre Sage to make a little comeback in Simic but we will still have to see. Exciting!

January 22, 2014 2:49 p.m.

thewyzman says... #18

I'm saying I agree, you can bioshift counters onto Beastmaster... but the X +1/+1 counters she generates are only temporary, I never stated otherwise. Perhaps, splint, I took your earlier words as thinking the temporary counters were Bioshift -able, that would be my error.

Gyre Sage , Simic Manipulator , Vorel of the Hull Clade will all gain attention with untap skills. Even creatures like Cloudfin Raptor and Elusive Krasis will gain from it since they're typically Simic's way to deal evasive damage, but also meaty blockers.

I'm pretty sure I'll be snatching up a four-set of Kiora's Follower when they come out, just to see what I can concoct.

+1 for the name. Biomenace was a boss on DOS.

Not a bad little evolve deck. MB looks fine, but I'd pack some counters in your board for control match-ups. Maybe -2 Zameck Guildmage +2 Dissolve

January 24, 2014 3:48 p.m.

Zicca21 says... #20

Aww yes, counters. I've gone back and forth with this as most times I'm trying to keep my creatures alive, not so much keep my opponents from casting spells. Dissolve is great but what do you think about Spell Rupture as it uses my big creatures to my advantage and it's a little cheaper? Thanks for commenting, and I love Biomenace- it's brutal.

January 25, 2014 12:12 a.m.

thewyzman says... #21

Spell Rupture is too situational. If you're getting your butt kicked where you NEED that clutch counterspell and your board is empty, Rupture is useless. You can carry Negate or Essence Scatter if you anticipate the matchups and which will be the bigger threat, but I find Syncopate is the most versatile spell, counters anything, and can be useful as early as T2, just like all of the above, especially against aggro decks since their main focus early is tapping out to throw out their creatures.

January 25, 2014 8:43 a.m.

intrasolar says... #22

Rapid Hybridization could definitely find a place in the main board.

January 25, 2014 6:10 p.m.

Zicca21 says... #23

So far it seems like if I want to play a lot of creatures I also need to play a lot of counters. I don't think I'll need the extra removal because I can usually get my creatures out in time to do the removal for me. But I guess the problem is keeping those creatures in the game or getting them in to the game, which is where counters come in handy.

Simic is a very weak build in the current standard. It's weak in offense and easily crippled when controlled. It seems like the best ways to build B/U/G these days is either instant-speed like this deck and mix in some black for Abrupt Decay and maybe Golgari Charm and/or Far / Away , or build Golgari and splash blue for control elements.

Or just go off the thousands of MBD or MUD decks and splash in what you need.

...all this if you want to be competitive.

For FNM purposes, gimmicky synergy decks (no offense intended to this deck, I love these types of decks and I play them exclusively myself, as I am not competitive) are probably fine. Even still, the top decks in competitive are still dominating even my local FNM.

January 26, 2014 7:23 a.m.

Zicca21 says... #25

Yeah, you're right, it's not very competitive, but you are also right in these kinds of decks being more fun. And it is- Corpsejack Menace mixed with Evolve and Simic counters has been my dream since I became aware of such things. I mean check out the flavor text on Mystic Genesis <---- exactly what I'm talking about.

But really thanks a ton thewyzman for commenting on my deck so many times and constantly trying to help me out and make this deck better. It's appreciated!

Also if you did want to check out my more competitive build, which as far as I have seen is still pretty original, you can find it with this link: Stilts to Kilts
