Spellheart Chimera is another beater worth considering with the drake strategy.

Hexaflexagon on Is it Pioneer Drakes?

Hey man!

I saw your deck while looking for some Pioneer deck ideas. Really good deck, my dad used to play Izzet Drakes while it was still in Standard. Have you considered Spellheart Chimera and Steam Vents ? In my opinion, Spellheart is better than Enigma Drake , as it has trample, but you could replace Pteramander for it too. You only have 10 lands that make Sulfur Falls enter the battlefield untapped, and I think you need more to make it more consistent. Steam Vents fits that bill perfectly, as it's a duel land while also having basic land types. I think you should replace the Temples because you want to be using up all your lands to cast spells and creatures. You could also take out a Shivan Reef to make space for a playset of Steam Vents.

Good Luck,

maybe Spellheart Chimera instead of Crackling Drake , it's a little faster and I like the trample on it to get past any blockers.

TheBloopKing on Pauper EDH suggestion

See. As I play them out. The uncommon walkers have a massive downside. The only way to plus, is to proliferate and there is only 14 cards in the format that do this.

So when Vraska, Swarm's Eminence goes to 1 loyalty. I have to rely on a proliferate to get another token.

Nahiri, Storm of Stone is quite powerful on it's own, but gets expensive to cast as the game goes on

Dovin, Hand of Control makes a simple shell. Slows opponents down, but it's relatively easy to handle. Mistmeadow Witch is arguably better as a Azorious Pauper commander

We once debated also banning Saheeli, Sublime Artificer . But decided that it didn't hold a candle to Phalanx Leader . And I personally preferred Spellheart Chimera as my Izzet pauper commander

Riku of the two reflections draws a bit of hate so make sure to protect him with Swiftfoot Boots and Lightning Greaves .

The medallions are okay for cost reduction, but only if you are chaining spells of the same color. Ramp spells Kodama's Reach or mana rocks Darksteel Ingot , more signets might be better. I suggest something like Pyromancer's Goggles to get an extra copy of that game ending Banefire . Why kill two players when you can kill three?

Wort, the Raidmother is another way to get an extra copy.

Vedalken Orrery is great for letting you keep mana open. Especially if you find yourself using that Alchemist's Refuge a lot.

Early Harvest allows you to get a lot of extra mana for the turn you plan to combo off.

Baral, Chief of Compliance seems weird with only a few counters, I understand you want the cost reduction and I was wondering how consistent has this been for you?

Love the Spellseeker ! Great way to find your x spells.

How do you feel about the Spellheart Chimera vs Crackling Drake vs Enigma Drake ? Trample seems like it might make the chimera the best of these cards.

I was gonna recommend Crackling Drake or Enigma Drake or maybe Spellheart Chimera (they're all similar), but I didn't notice the Monk Tokens... Looks really good. clap clap

Looks super cool, would you consider Crackling Drake or Spellheart Chimera for their high attack power? And although Risk Factor costs more than 2 mana, I'm a huge fan of it.
