Incubation / Incongruity

Look at the top five cards of your library. You may reveal a creature card from among them and put it into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.

Exile target creature. That creature's controller creates a 3/3 green Frog Lizard creature token.

Incubation / Incongruity Discussion

Murphy77 on Simic Merfolk

I like the idea and the Merfolk work well together. To take this deck to the next level, I would look to bring in Evolution Sage that just keeps adding +1/+1 counters to your Merfolk. Jadelight Ranger is normally standard in a deck like this.

My recommendation would be Evolution Sage for Incubation / Incongruity and Jadelight Ranger for Silvergill Adept .

This change would most likely mean replacing Wizard's Retort and Dovin, Hand of Control in the side-board with Enter the Unknown and maybe Tatyova, Benthic Druid

A few things to speed up the deck;

Arboreal Grazer comes in as a 1-drop that allows you to play an extra land, and can be rather useful early in the game.

Dovin's Veto is a cheap counter-spell that cant be countered, and provides a bit of protection (possibly in place of Incubation / Incongruity , which rarely does much work when you have 20 creatures in the deck).

Chromatic Lantern sacrifices tempo for mana-fixing and basically takes the place of an extra creature in this build - I would work towards slowly introducing dual lands, or even lands like Evolving Wilds .

Huatli, the Sun's Heart is a cheaper version of Arcades, the Strategist that can also give you a bit of life-gain in a pinch.

If the cost of mana-fixing cards is a huge concern, it is possible to build /, or even / versions of this deck. Ready and Alert somehow works almost as well.

I love the deck. I playtested some, and came up with the following:

  1. The deck needs a way to protect Wilderness reclamation from enchantment removal. +3 Negate and -1 Status / Statue -1 Forced Landing -1 Vraska's Contempt in SB to account for it.
  2. The Vraska's Contempt is really important though, so I'd move the 1 copy to Main and maybe drop an Incubation / Incongruity .
  3. The Callous Dismissal played very well, and while I wasn't thrilled with it when I initially reviewed the decklist, I really like it after playing. The bounce is nice on the ooze if nothing else or to recharge a Vivien, and of course helps a lot before an attack.
  4. Frilled Mystic is great in any Wilderness Reclamation deck, since it Flashes even without Vivien and protects the Reclamation while still being a body. I'm not sure what to drop for it, maybe -1 Thief of Sanity and -1 Hostage Taker to get at least 2 of them in and see what you think of them. They have been a 4-of in every Bant Flash deck I have tested.

Overall I really like your theme on it. This is the first Sultai mix I've seen, and the removal is something the Bant mix really misses. Nice work.

Disdainful Stroke is a great sideboard card. I would recommend it over Negate , or at least a 2/1 split. The only spell that I even care about that Negate can hit that Stroke can't is Deafening Clarion . Otherwise, Stroke answers every sweeper and planeswalker that must be answered. Goblin Chainwhirler and Thief of Sanity are problematic creatures, but that's why you have the Incubation / Incongruity in the 75. As a benefit of running the adapt package, when you leave mana up for an end of turn adapt, it gives you the counter-magic option.

I ended up replacing Titanic Brawl with Incubation / Incongruity . Shoots more towards large threats on the 2nd side, while the first side provides a little cheap card advantage.

Incubation / Incongruity might be worth considering.

Contagion Clasp - without ramp, Contagion Engine isn't going to see much play. Contagion Clasp is still steep to activate and only half the power, but you're more likely to pull it off. If you're going to keep either, add 1x Buried Ruin to the mana-base.

Probably needs Blossoming Defense - with so few creatures, you really need to hold on to any you get down, but you also can't afford to give up an pumps. BD helps on both fronts, so it's probably a smart add.

Temple of Mystery is best-cheapest Simic land. Botanical Sanctum is next.
