Unfinished Card Cycles You Want Done

Commander (EDH) forum

Biggest 2 for me are the Odyssey Filterlands and the Talismans (i.e. Skycloud Expanse and Talisman of Progress ) which are only available in friendly color pairs. Enemy color pairs and wedges get the shaft and are typically more expensive to build a mana base for.

I understand that 2 drop mana rocks and lands that don't inherrantly tap for mana on their own aren't coming out in a Standard environment and that Commander products only get so many slots for new cards.

But is finishing a cycle really creating a new card? Name it, slap some unused art that's already sitting around on it and voila! I really wish someone in creative (or whatever department) would just ask for a few extra new card slots to finish cycles.

Just make them uncommon in a 3 color wedge Commander product so they each show up in 2 different decks and there's more printed in this instance.

Anyone else have a card cycle that they wish WotC would finish?

Future Sight introduced a false cycle of dual lands, where each card in the "cycle" would be a good fit for other sets. We saw Graven Cairns get its cycle completed in Shadowmoor and Eventide, but Grove of the Burnwillows ; Horizon Canopy , and River of Tears would all make for pretty interesting little lands, and I'd love to see their cycles finished.

Honestly I want to see the tango lands from Battle For Zendikar and the cycling dual lands from Amonkhet finished off. Like there's only 2 or 3 cards with both Plains and Swamps as the card type. We need more!

April 10, 2019 12:09 p.m.

cdkime: Don't forget Nimbus Maze !!

But yeah, I'm with dbpunk, I want a GB tango land. The cycling lands are fine, I'm not as excited about them, but definitely the tangos.

Even Nimbus Maze would make for a cool cycle from that set ck. And yes, definitely Tango lands.

Also, why only Murmuring Bosk ? I'll take this in both wedge and shards please.

Well, not entirely a card cycle, but CMDR products have tried to go over every color combination type with their commanders, but haven't done all of the allied ones, like the Cat deck did Selesnya, but the rest (Azorius, Dimir, Rakdos, and Gruul) need to be done eventually.

Also Colorless hasn't been done, but the Dragon deck did 5 color.

My number 1 will never not be the multiplayer lands from Battlebond (ie Luxury Suite ). I would also like to see the battle lands get completed (ie Prairie Stream ). Another seriously underrated set of lands is the shadow land cycle- which are baller in two-or-sometimes-three-color decks (ie Choked Estuary ). Note: all of these are ally-colored. Give your Simic/Boros mages something to work with here!

cdkime, I can't ever see Wizards finishing land cycles that show(ed) up in competitive modern with great consistency, like Grove of the Burnwillows or Horizon Canopy . However, I would nearly cry if the River of Tears cycle was printed, as it is one of my favorite untap lands EVER.

Why? Because it's an exemplary way to teach new players the value of sequencing. Playing with a lot of newbies, I've observed that they just sort of play things, giving no heed to when (except that it's ALWAYS on the precombat main phase). But the River of Tears cycle would make them look and think "huh, sometimes I can do things in a different order to get more value out of them!" I love that, and with so few new players joining the fanbase, teaching tools like that are more necessary than ever to get the kiddos talking and thinking.

Because of Punishing Fire , I think legacy lands would be too powerful with more variants of Grove of the Burnwillows , even Kavu Predator or that enchantment that turns lifegain into lifeloss for the opponents could be insane with a landbase filled with opp-lifegain lands.

Tainted Remedy ?

I want more River of Tears , too, ZendikariWol! So good.

I also want the enemy Commands (a la Atarka's Command) and the fourth Angel sister from Innistrad. And does it count as completing a cycle to ask for Time Spiral II...?

Honestly I'd like them to finish the Fate Reforged Dragon cycle (like Silumgar, the Drifting Death ) and the Khans Ascendancy cycle ( Temur Ascendancy for example.)

landofMordor, unfortunately there are commands for all the dragonlords we have, but wouldn't it be fascinating if enemy-colored dragonlords rose up, combining somehow (likely in set 3 after a lengthy conflict) with the ranks of the present dragonlords and making them 3-color again?

Also, there's not a fourth angel sister on Innistrad. We have Gisela, Blade of Goldnight , Bruna, Light of Alabaster , and Sigarda, Host of Herons . Some would consider Avacyn, Angel of Hope to be among them, but she kinda went crazy and died so... not anymore. Even so, we got three different cards for her. We're good.

dbpunk, I have been looking forward anxiously to a return to Alara, so perhaps we could finish the ascendancy cycle there.

April 10, 2019 2:04 p.m.

I agree with you in some sense SynergyBuild but on the other side of things I disagree. Legacy lands I don’t think would have too much room for uping on Grove of the Burnwillows type lands without cutting into other utility slots. A more efficient engine for Punishing Fire or less utility? If anything even if it ups the power of the deck I think it atleast offers a chance to think about things rather than a strict power up. Also Kavu Predator would be sick.

Overall I’m torn on this topic. I think all the cycles where only half of the ten color pairs have been released should be followed up with. It was really nice when they finished the fastland cycle like Blooming Marsh in Kaladesh. It’s frustrating but also interesting for deck building to not flat out having a Horizon Canopy in every color etc. Also I would love other Flagstones of Trokair to mess around with smallpox. With that said I will end with, when are we getting a Cabal Coffers and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth in 4 other colors? :)

There was a 4th angel sister on Innistrad. Avycyn kill her and those under her. She has not been named as her name was forbidden. She was supposedly the most powerful of the Angel's.

From gamepedia:
A fourth flight once existed, lead by an unnamed angel, who apparently enjoyed consorting with demons and vampires. Due to these practises, Avacyn murdered her and her entire flight; the names of both the angel and her flight are now forbidden to say and thus supposedly forgotten to history.[15]

She is mention in this story.

ZendikariWol says... #15

OH YEAH the nameless angel, I totally forgot! K, forgot about that. Anyway, there were three other angels, in w/u, w/r, and w/g. It's reasonable to assume she was w/b.

finish the taxing enchantment cycle of Rhystic Study and Smothering Tithe .

April 11, 2019 10:10 a.m.

Last_Laugh says... #27

There's some really good cycles that WotC needs to finish. I figured this would end up being 90% land cycles but there's a lot of non-land cycles that need to be finished too. I still stand by Talismans like Talisman of Indulgence in enemy colors being my #1 non-land cycle I want finished though.

Lands are probably Battlebond lands 1st and Tango lands in 2nd.

The Talisman cycle is my #1. Orzhov is my favorite color pair. My favorite three color is Esper which gets to use Talisman of Progress and Talisman of Dominance . I want this cycle completed pretty bad.

Last_Laugh says... #29

- Talisman of Aggression

- Talisman of Deceit

- Talisman of Decay

- Talisman of Power

- Talisman of Mutation

Boom, now give them art and a card!

IAmTheWraith says... #30

Deceit isn't the word I would use for .

Maybe something more in the spirit of orzhov, Oppression maybe?

: Talisman of Justice

: Talisman of Riches

: Talisman of Decay

: Talisman of Ingenuity

: Talisman of Adaptation

Imo

Last_Laugh says... #32

I like your Simic and Izzet ones more, I struggled with both. Orzhov I feel we all have wrong... Talisman of Oppression or Purification? Boros could be Talisman of Discipline.

April 11, 2019 9:45 p.m.

ZendikariWol says... #33

Ooh, agreed on Boros, and that I have Orzhov wrong. Damn, it is tricky to nail down. I wanna say Talisman of Despotism but that doesn’t have any ring to it.

Amen Funkydiscogod, by far the coolest named cycle I've stumbled across. Only weird one is Fieldvein, but maybe they can pull the flavor off with the art.

April 18, 2019 12:47 p.m.

Last_Laugh says... #37

Damn we did a horrible job of guessing the names if Talismans (granted I like some of our names more). Thank you WotC... it only took 10 years of begging.
