Strange Women Lying in Ponds

Strange Women

The deck's main win condition (if Snapcaster beatdowns don't do it for you) is the Emry, Lurker of the Loch + Mirran Spy combo along with cheap artifacts (especially 2x Mox Amber to loop for infinite mana). Looping Bauble draws your deck on the next upkeep, or infinite mana with Chromatic Star does it right away.

I also recently added the Sword of the Meek + Thopter Foundry combo, since it doesn't take up much room in the deck, works well with Emry, and the lifegain is great against new 8-shadow decks popping up. Amber, Foundry, Spy, and Emry also goes infinite.

The Erayo, Soratami Ascendant   package gives an interesting dimension to the deck. I was already running most of the package, so I jus tweaked some numbers and squeezed in Erayos and Lurrus. Great way to disrupt your opponent and give your own combo some protection.

So, the deck gains card advantage through Bauble loops and Erayo locks and mana advantage through Mox amber, grinding out opponents until you assemble one of your combos.

Where the deck gets VERY fun to play is how we assemble our combo pieces: Gifts Ungiven . Thanks to other graveyard abusers like Jace, Vryn's Prodigy   and $napcaster , a good Gifts package is essentially a tutor four at instant speed. Constructing good packages is important, however. A few examples:

Snapcaster Mage + Unearth + Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  +TARGET CREATURE OR INSTANT/SORCERY=Guarantees you get access to the target (barring graveyard hate, obviously).

Snapcaster Mage + Unearth +CREATURE+CREATURE=Guarantees access to both of those creatures

Gifts is also a Double Entomb for thopter sword if you have an Emry (or you can grab unearth, emry, thopter foundry, sword of the meek, but that’s kinda slow).

Sometimes it's just nice to Gifts for value:

Snapcaster Mage + Fatal Push + Abrupt Decay + Unearth =guarantees you two removal spells, and occasionally a body.

The best feeling is having an Emry out and Gifts-ing for an artifact, or Jace flipped and Gifts-ing for a instant/sorcery. They have no good options at that point, because you will have access to the cards no matter where they get put.

Funny story: I was testing against burn, and they had me down to 1 life, but no fears: I had gifts ungiven and Jace/Emry on board. So I grabbed Mirran Spy and Unearth, flashed back unearth with Jace targeting Spy, then went infinite with a couple of Mox Ambers. The problem? I could only make blue mana, and I was out of other mana sources. I could draw my entire library with Aether Spellbomb, but with only blue mana, I couldn't cast Thopter Foundry to actually win the game.

Long story short, in the fringe case that I can't shock in a black source, unearth a Lurrus for Mox to tap for black, or otherwise can't make black mana, but have all the pieces to go infinite and draw my library, I added Chromatic Star for mana fixing. Spellbomb wasn't doing that much anyway. We'll test for a while and see if we miss it.
