merdrach hey, thanks for the interest. I had a stable, tight list around mid-2018, but then I sold a lot of the pieces at Grand Prix Milwaukee in November. So, right now I don't have a paper list.

That doesn't take away my 4+ year mastery of the deck though, so I'll come out and say it, if you do want to play this deck, it's gonna be pricey. You need to begin with the payoffs, Ugin, all 5 playable Eldrazi Titans are all going to be what you want to pick up first. You can make budget choices with the ramp, but it's gonna be a lot slower obviously. Cards like Jeweled Amulet are surprisingly effective.

When you're building on a budget it's easy to fall into traps, Gruesome Slaughter for example, make no mistake, is unplayable unless you're running a less tuned version of this deck with 30+ creatures. Make sure that, for boardwipes, you get the full suite of Ugin, the Spirit Dragon , Oblivion Stone , Nevinyrral's Disk , All Is Dust , and, if you're really into wiping the board, Perilous Vault , but you'd rather not exile all your ramp artifacts.

That being said, we've also gotten a whole lot of new gas in newer sets. The Immortal Sun and Karn, Scion of Urza are great.

Hey, thanks for responding! I'm in a good position in a couple of ways - I've been in the game for a while and being something of a battlecruiser magic player I actually already have all the titans. Including the unplayable one, but that one's a bit moot...

Fortunately, I'm okay with spending decent money on ramp/mana bases, because in the past I've found them to be quite transferrable between decks. Mana is mana and all that.

I guess my main question is that, considering the list as it stands above - what are the real standouts to come out of the newer sets? The gas gassy enough to actually squeeze out some of the cards already in place? :)

Back here in 2019. Really wanting to see this list updated with everything new. Trying to build it now, but don't want to buy anything that is less good than something else.

Looking at updating it soon, selling a hundred or so Unstable basics to rebuy my fast mana, grim monolith and mana crypt mostly. This list isnt likely to change all that much though

Thanks for the reply! Tbh, I'm a bit unsure about The Immortal Sun in this deck. Ugin feels like the best card in the deck a lot of the time.

The immortal sun simply takes the spot of Staff of Nin i think. In every single deck that would run staff, too. Our 3 colorless planeswalkers are worth delaying if we keep getting value off the sun.

QuietMyth says... #7

At least 2 brand new colorless planeswalkers are confirmed for War of the Spark, very exciting prospect for this deck.

Great list +1 instant buy... this deck brought me back to EDH. I´m so tired of these combo instant win EDH decks. This is a Deck that can win against it, without beeing a better combo deck.

Do you think you'll add karn, the creator the new planeswalker in WOTS basically a 4 mana tutor for artefacts outside the game

QuietMyth says... #10

Tyranus68 Karn is definitely going to be playable. Unfortunately I play in an environment where we dont go get things from outside the game if we dont have to, but still, his static ability plus Mycosynth Lattice is too good to pass up. We can play a permanent lock without any of the boring stax cards

+1 for colorless love!

I am only recently venturing into the world of colorless EDH and your deck along with everything you said about it has helped me quite a bit. I was originally intending on keeping my Kozilek fairly budget but I figured out pretty quickly that it wasn’t going to happen lol

If you wouldn’t mind looking over my deck some time I would love your input.

Reality Can Be Whatever I Want

Ugin, the Spirit Dragon was one I considered but I hadn’t actually put in yet. After speaking with some of my friends and seeing your reasoning behind it I have to admit you’re correct. It’s simply too good NOT to do it.

Has 34 lands felt comfortable for you? I am currently running 36 and admittedly I have more basic wastes. I may give some of your land selections a try though to see how they work.

Any suggestions you can give for mine would be greatly appreciated!

+1 Great deck, which gave me a lot of ideas for mine.

Would you mind explaining why you chose Soul of New Phyrexia over Darksteel Forge ?

Also, is skipping the on cast trigger of the titans using Planar Bridge worth it or do you usually fetch artifacts with it?

Finally, I want to add Kuldotha Forgemaster to my list but other than Myr Turbine , Spine of Ish Sah and possibly Darksteel Citadel with a crucible of world in play, I don't see the sacrifice as being worth it a lot of the times, is there something I'm not seeing ?

Thank you!

Ashen0ne hey thanks for the comment. I just noticed i missed a land, so the deck was 98 cards just after my new update. There are 35 lands, but 4 of them are bad in your opener, so there are 31 reliable ones.

To get away with such a low count you do have to have the fast mana, mana crypt and mana vault are very influential.

A play to keep in mind is if you cant counter spot removal on your eldrazi, you can activate Mirrorpool in response and sacrifice the removal's target

QuietMyth says... #14

Hblue forgemaster is definitely a weird card, it wouldnt be unreasonable to cut it. Darksteel Forge on theother hand proves to be pretty useless a lot of the time. Anything that would be blowing up all your artifacts ought to be getting countered by Kozilek, and you could lean into that harder by adding a Memory Jar for digging for the proper cmc.

Sweet decklist! Mine is along the same lines but far cheaper of a list, around 350$ or so for my Eldrazi Rocks Have you thought of Awakened Amalgam ?

May 27, 2019 5:37 a.m.

QuietMyth says... #16

Subzero6977 Thanks! This list is a little tight to include payloads that aren't eldrazi, but as it happens I do run Awakened Amalgam in my Battle Box! If you don't know what that is, it's kind of a fast cube. You can find explanations on Channelfireball articles. But, basically, you dont have lands in that format that have the same name, so it's really strong!

Funny QuietMyth, I saw your old primer first. Looking at the list I went from how nice a colorless list with just the eldrazi titans ready to stomp face, nothing more, nothing less. But then I saw the decklist was 4-5 years old and not updated.

Scrolling through some decklistst on tappedout I saw a list that looked kinda familiar and I was super happy seeing it was your old decklist, but now updated. thank you for that. I need about 28 more cards. Most of the expensive stuff I have. The only 2 I'm really missing are Karn Liberated and Scroll Rack

Karn Liberated will be replaced for now by Scour from Existence . About CMC and also used to exile something. (Same Role, ofc Karn is better)

Scroll Rack I'm not so sure about yet. Is it really that good and essential for the deck? Asking because it is also a expensive card. Next to this, it is not on the reserved list so a reprint might happen. If you explain how important it is, I might drop the money for it :)

QuietMyth says... #18

Ripwater thanks a lot! I would say you could hold off on scroll rack and see if Commander 2019 had it, apparently its gonna have huge reprints. If not i wouldnt bank on it coming back really. Unless it spikes above 50 i doubt it will ever be on their radar.

Its incredibly good in the deck, basically adding X cards to your hand where X is the number of cards in your hand. Its very helpeful for digging for counters if you have Kozilek out. The same way Sensei's Divining Top and Memory Jar are

Thanks again for the nice words :>

PS: Didn't realize scroll rack was already above 50 lol, glad I got mine when I did .-.

QuietMyth well did my first game yesterday and man this deck is oppressive hahaha. Actually had scroll rack out from turn 2 and it almost won me the game (although it was out in combination with Staff of Nin).

I did made one tiny change, since i'm still waiting for that card. I took Kyren Toy out and replaced it with Sculpting Steel . I kind of based it on Mage-Ring Network , wich I hardly had the mana for yesterday to activate it too put storage counters on. Ofcourse Sculpting Steel is potentionally a dead card, but often there is somewhere a sol ring or another mana rock out. I think it gives more flexibility then Kyren Toy.

Is there a reason that you don't run Darksteel Forge ? Cause yesterday it kinda panicked me out to just wait till someone plays a Austere Command on artifacts.

And why aren't you playing cards like The Immortal Sun and Paradox Engine they seem like such a nice addition?

June 13, 2019 8:07 a.m.

QuietMyth says... #22

Ripwater great to hear!

I rely on Soul of New Phyrexia for my indestructibility. Darksteel like many other cards has aged pretty badly as commander evolves and wizards prints things specifically for commander. Definitely prefer each card to do a variety of things.

Recently with the printing of such strong cards as Yawgmoth, i am looking at adding Sorcerous Spyglass as a versatile answer to many strategies, the deck needs all the cheap interaction it can get without dipping into bad cards like Titan's Presence

The immortal sun is great, its just a matter of fact that now, thankfully, there are enough great colorless cards that we cant play all of them.

Paradox engine ought to be here but i havent picked up a new one. I believe Torpor Orb will be coming back once i can find one too, it is way too good to exclude. Even if its shutting down our powerful Duplicant / Meteor Golem + Mimic Vat it hoses so many lethal effects for this deck like Bane of Progress or Aura Shards . And if we need to turn ETB back on we can sacrifice the orb to our many outlets

Hey QuietMyth

Thanks for the quick response, it really helps with you explaining the choices so I can understand why you made them and will help piloting the deck and making my own choices allong the way. But since you already play it for so long I like to rely a bit on your experience :-)

I kinda overlooked the Soul of New Phyrexia , fills exactly the same role but does more! You really think Darksteel Forge aged badly? It seems like such a powerful card and as I experienced yesterday 9 mana is really not that much.... My playgroup loves to run boardwipes thats why I'm thinking of running it..

I ran Sorcerous Spyglass for quite some time in my Archidekt: Queen Marchesa Deck but I always found it a bit underwhelming and too niche to run it. So I took it out.

So we put The Immortal sun in the not great enough corner, to be fair if I had to choose between immortal sun and Paradox Engine I think the engine would win.

Well the fact that your decission of not running it comes down to the fact of not owning it is enough reason for me to order it hahah. I like your idea about torpor orb as well, shuts down a lot of stuff so I put it on my list as well. Any idea what you would cut for those 2 cards?

Thanks again for the response, I really think brainstorming about cards and decks is one of the fun parts about magic, so I hope this doesnt ask too much of your time and energy :)

Love the deck <3 Picked up old Kozilek and built my own, then converted my list to something very similar to yours!

However, as I so often do, I found yet another colorless combo, and all you would need to add is Myr Battlesphere .

So here goes; you have in play: Myr Battlesphere with its 4 myrs, Clock of Omens , Trading Post , Krark-Clan Ironworks , and literally any mana rock.

  • Tap 4 myrs to put an untap trigger on Trading Post & the rock
  • Sac Myr Battlesphere for {2}.
  • Pay {1} and sac a myr to return Myr Battlesphere to hand with trading post.
  • Sac the other myrs to bring your total up to {7} in mana pool.
  • Then Trading Post & rock untap, giving you {8} in mana pool.
  • Cast Myr Battlesphere for {7}. You now have the exact same board state, but +1 colorless
  • You now have inf. mana. You can then instead opt to put two untap triggers on Trading Post each cycle. You can use the additional untap trigger to sac a myr to: draw a card or return an artifact from grave.
  • Draw your deck
  • Continually cast Spine of Ish Sah to blow up everything you don't control, or ping people to death with Staff of Nin . You can even get cards from exile with Karn, the Great Creator

It's pretty silly and you need like 5 pieces of a combo, but it might be a nice way to actually close out a game. And every piece of the puzzle has other uses. Even Myr Battlesphere is a great blocker, can be very aggressive, and can be fetched with Myr Turbine .

QuietMyth says... #25

MissDemeanor thats hilariously complicated and I love it haha. Battlesphere is definitely good in this deck, plus there aren't many good cards you can pitch to Kozilek to counter things at 7.
