Like the past few comments, an update to your list would be nice! A lot of us are wondering what the cuts are like for some of the new pieces you’ve slotted in!

Sephorai Hey there! At the beginning of the pandemic I sort of sold out of my collection, in the middle of some serious setbacks currently but I'm inching toward recreating this list. Top dollar cards i'm missing include both Ulamogs (80$ a piece), a Mana Vault(120$), and all the planeswalkers except for Great Creator.

My Grim Monolith is gone as well, and I don't intend to acquire a new one. This deck will definitely take advantage of huge improvements though! Diamond Lion is PERFECT for this deck, and obviously this one will require a Jeweled Lotus. Unfortunately at the moment i'm kinda building back from scratch. I basically had only a single Mana Crypt and a dream once in store play began again. I'll get there soon!

I appreciate the response friend! I had actually been overlooking Diamond Lion, but youre right he might actually be really good since we dont care about tossing our hand with koz. Perhaps you could update the list with how you think you would update it? I feel you on the expensive card stuff though, I've only recently gotten back into Magic myself and I honestly wouldn't be playing if I couldnt play with proxies.

So, I'm not new to magic in general, but I'm new to deckbuilding (good decks anyway). Noticed you mentioned Diamond Lion being perfect for this deck. Why is that? Wouldn't dropping cards from your hand be a blow to Kozilek, the Great Distortion ? Since we need cards in hand for the counter effect to work? Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but just wanted to ask!

NPCWhiteMage the reason is because you'd sac the Diamond Lion in order to cast Kozilek from the command zone. That way you draw a full hand. Ideally you're pitching few, if any, cards when you sac the Lion so you're up as many cards as possible.

This list gave me inspiration for my own first deck years ago so I thought I'd add to it. There's been a lot of colorless/land cards added in the past few years but here are several that I really thought added something of value over most other cards:

Protection: Commander's Plate

Haste Enabler: Crashing Drawbridge

Ramp: Diamond Lion Forsaken Monument

Tutors: Moonsilver Key

Beaters: Phyrexian Triniform

Graveyard Hate: Nautiloid Ship Unlicensed Hearse

Utility: Wandering Archaic  Flip

Lands: Bonders' Enclave Urza's Saga War Room Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth

I have my own list on my profile for anyone curious about even more options. Also final caveat, my list is based off my own meta, which is pretty casual at best. If your meta is more cut throat definitely consider more interaction and lower cmc options over others. Tutors will do wonders for you as well.

I forgot to add Jeweled Lotus which has been mentioned in other comments prior to mine!

Glad to see others have been posting periodically and I hope things are going well for you OP QuietMyth

Hi, I'm returning to magic after not playing for several years. I want to dip my toes into EDH and wanted to build a colourless kozilek deck. That's when I came across your primer on mtg salvation and this list here.

As someone who doesn't have much experience with EDH beyond precons I'm struggling to see how a lot of the cards interact, particularly in terms of how some of these cards create infinite combos. The only one I managed to figure out is the spine + krak clan + sculpting steel + foundry inspector, which doesn't even seem to be in this iteration of the deck, but I think was on the mtg salvation list. I was wondering if you would be able to highlight all the combos in this deck that will go infinite?

I'm looking to add a few alternate win cons to my list and that would be really helpful.

@TheGhostlySheep

These are two examples of infinite mana combos available with Kozilek: Basalt Monolith + Forsaken Monument & Rings of Brighthearth + Basalt Monolith

Your best best when piloting a deck like Kozilek is either fairly aggressive mulls or humble acceptance that without solid ramp you may have a real slow start. Usually this deck, and decks like it, will just eventually roll over others by sheer value and the efficiency of having no color, let alone mono color. In a lot of cases the cards rely heavily on extra untaps, lots of mana rocks, and sometimes just stomping the enemy flat. Sometimes you can build it more like a Swiss Army knife as well, and the more tutors you can bring the more efficient it will run. My deck is fairly up to date, but there are some new toys found in the last few sets, here's a link: Kozilek - Colorless - Artifact Shenanigans. I HIGHLY recommend looking at https://edhrec.com/commanders/kozilek-the-great-distortion for more cards that work well.

I spotted the infinite mana combos a couple days ago, but correct me if I'm wrong but I don't see an outlet for them in this list? So, I'm not really sure what the purpose of them is.

I've made a provisional list for my deck and I've added walking ballista as an outlet. I'm also considering ashnod's altar to cast and sac kozi to draw as many cards as I want but I'm unsure about adding a card solely for that purpose as it would be dead unless I have the infinite mana combo set up.

I play tested the mtgsalvation list referenced in this deck and I'm really not sure how that deck produces the mana it needs with only 22 lands, cause I had so many dead hands with either no lands or no mana rocks to produce the early mana it needs to set itself up for the mid-late game. This list has 35 so I'm assuming it functions more consistently. I went up to 28 lands in my list but it's still not consistent enough for my liking, so I may need to go up a couple more, or maybe add some more cheap mana rocks. I don't want to go up to 30+ because by relying on mana rocks for mana it makes the deck more explosive with all the untap shenanigans if I have 6+ mana rocks on the board instead of having lands be my main source of mana, but I need to find the right balance there cause I'm still getting too many dead opening hands.

I'll take a look at your list and see if there's anything that catches my attention, cheers!

Just adding to my previous comment above this ^^ the mtg salvation list I'm referencing has more than 22 lands so not sure where I got that from but there's a list I came across that ran 22 lands. Anyway that's all I wanted to say, just disregard that part of the comment lol.

What's nice about this Kozilek is you can be pretty aggresive with Mulligans, seeing as you'll just draw up to 7 later anyway. The bad thing is you'll usually be a big target and opponents with consistent artifact removal will be a pain with too few lands.

Also infinite mana to draw cards is fantastic and gets even better if you can draw enough and just counter other peoples responses. I went in a swiss army knife direction that needs some tweaking and definitely is behind by a set or two at this point.

Profet93 the deck has several combos in it, so I'd imagine OP is fine with them.

I didn't see any in the description so I was unaware unless I missed it. Nevertheless....

QuietMyth

Mystic Forge + cost reducer/Cloud Key/Semblance Anvil/Ugin, the Ineffable + Top = Draw your whole deck

Basalt + Rings of Brighthearth + 2 mana = Infinite colorless

Basalt + Forsaken Monument = Infinite colorless

Everflowing Chalice (4 counters) + voltaic key + rings = Infinite colorless.

Blinkmoth Well + blinkmoth urn = One sided ramp. Do note that well interacts well with Winter Orb, Storage matrix and static orb should you be inclined to utilize a control/stax package to slow down aggro and midrange while you assemble ramp.

All of the cards are good on their own ensuring no dead cards. Hope it helps!

May 14, 2023 6:21 p.m.

You can even run Blinkmoth Well + Howling Mine for card draw, but it's tricky preventing other players from getting free cards early.
