Once and Future Discussion

Hi

Your deck looks great for the first try.

I was suggested your deck under my favorite deck, which uses the same commander. Had Ghalta, Primal Hungeras Commander first, but then switched to Nylea, Keen-Eyed because Ghalta was to OP ;-) Also had Nylea, God of the Hunt like you, but i don't need "Other creatures you control have trample."

What do you want to do with your deck, I did not realize.

You have some mechanics:

Landfall

+1/+1 counter

Control

If all goes well your deck is strong, but what do you do when you play against a deck that destroys/enchants the 2-3 key cards? I would add the:

Nature's Spiral

Once and Future

And remove:

Defend the Hearth

Hunter's Ambush

You say you've been playing for only a month? Makes me wonder how you got such a strong deck together, respectfully.

What helped me a lot was to make the listing personal.

Thoughts on swapping Once and Future for Seasons Past? Its 2 more mana, but a much stronger effect. Playtesting your deck I didn't always have a lot of green mana given all of the utility in your landbase. Speaking of utility....

Field of the Dead - Any reason why you don't run it, due to your dork package? Same question with Yavimaya Hollow

Other than the bounce artifacts you already have in the deck, you should also look into reanimation effects to get your commander out onto the field again, like Meren of Clan Nel Toth, Once and Future, Bond of Revival, Cauldron's Gift, or Eternal Witness. Golgari doesn't have a lot of bounce effects but does have a lot of graveyard recurrence, which also should keep your commander a little cheaper than just playing it from the command zone over and over since you keep it in your graveyard instead of sending it to the command zone, where it will steadily get more expensive.

5 or so ramp cards total may be good to have. Cards like Selesnya Signet, Rampant Growth, Farseek and Mind Stone. Llanowar Elves is good to also run to give an extra elf to champion to your Wren's Run Packmaster.

Having a couple hard removal spells may also be good; Devouring Light, Swords to Plowshares and Condemn

Options for future upgrades

For drawing cards Skullclamp is basically banned in every format except commander and is spectacular in token decks.

Eternal Witness is a nice upgrade for Once and Future

Return of the Wildspeaker Is either card draw or a pump spell at instant speed.

I may have some of these in paper too!

Thanks for sharing your deck. I really want to try to put Ominous Seas in my deck, but I don't know with what I should replace it.

Also, I really do like Once and Future, it really fits well with Song of Creation in case we discard a wincon like Thassa's Oracle. Love it.

Scytec, there is always Regrowth, or if you have mostly green mana you can get two Regrowths in one at instant speed with Once and Future. Other options are at this link. remove any search filters you don't want.
