heavy renovation

honey, 13 years ago

should've started over as the original design I still think made a pretty good deck. this is different and more fun, i think its getting pretty close

Aldernon, 13 years ago

I found the En-Kor creatures intriguing and attempted a deck built around those creatures.

The main "kill-shot" is the Auriok Salvagers,Lion's Eye Diamond, and Magma Mine combination.

I'm sure this one wouldn't do well in today's world of tournaments, but it's fun for casual play. Among our regular gaming friends, it's only comes out once every couple months due to it's frustration factor for the other players and it's propensity to win more often than not. Of course, once you've seen the combo fire, it's the same every other time and does get a little "old".

-1 Artillerize, -3 Mogg Fanatic, +1 Voracious Dragon, +2 Goblin Wardriver, +1 Skirk Prospector I really wish I could take out the last Mogg Fanatic for another Kuldotha Rebirth but I don't have another yet. I have play tested this deck and it wins about 2/3 the time, it doesn't do well against control decks or really anything with a couple counter spells. Any suggestions?

draw tests

PwninRonin, 13 years ago

I tested the draws on this deck and found that there was too much proliferate and too little poisoning to be done. I was really relying too much on an early Blighted Agent for some early poison that I could proliferate. Any low mana cost blue infect cards would be really helpful.

*Edit, the Fireslinger/Goblin Grenade/Brimstone Volley combo is 4 mana. My mistake.

The Quickening, pt. 1

Drac07, 13 years ago

Taking into account the excellent feedback I've received, coupled with as much playtesting as I could do, I've removed Grimoire of the Dead and Army of the Damned. They are cool cards and they have really interesting possibilities... in games that go into seven or eight turns, with lucky draws. The deck was middle-heavy, as I've found that many of the "cooler" zombie cards are in the 4-5 mana cost region. A deck shouldn't suffer that much when you can only get three lands out.

I added in a couple more lands, took Cemetery Reaper up to a full playset, added an Unbreathing Horde and then just bolstered my supply of other cards already in the deck: Endless Ranks of the Dead, Ghoulcaller's Chant, and Go for the Throat. The deck should perform faster and more effectively with more theme-centric cards and a greatly eased mana curve.

Part 2 of The Quickening will come in the form of Heartless Summoning. I feel this will really take the deck to a whole new level, freeing up a lot of mana for these cool enchantments and allowing me to go more on the offensive instead of worrying about surviving long enough to get my engine running. At time of writing, I'm about to go to sea for 75 days, but as always I'm looking forward to the journey of completing a deck that really is an endless horde of zombies. It has been a lot of fun to play so far and I'm hoping Innistrad will only make it better.

Thanks for your feedback, please keep it coming!

Cut Sorin Markov because he's terrible, brought Consume Spirit back onto the mainboard, and retooled the sideboard to handle a wider array of threats.

Esper Control

kythegent, 13 years ago

I playtested against Esper Control. He went down to 16 cards. I went down to 13. He was at 13 life, I was at 4. He had 3 O-Rings out. 2 for Burning Vengeance, 1 for a Liliana. I had a Sun Titan, Liliana, and 2 Snapcasters on the board before he left the game. He could have topdecked a WSZ and ended the game, he did have an Unburial Rites to bring back a Phantasmal Image of my Sun, but I would have Geistflamed him immediately. I'm assuming he'd bring back Liliana to cancel mine, but I was two turns away. I'm definitely not saying this deck is perfect. O-Ring may need to go in this, but it has potential.

Seething Song might be one solution to my problem of a lack of mana-searching cards. Manabarbs seems fun to get them much lower quickly and throw out, plus considering that my mana cost per damage to them is pretty sexy make it more alluring... Any thoughts? I would probably end up getting rid of a few goblins or low damage sorcery. Also looking at Magma Jet...

Oooh, I found Chain Lightning...might throw that in there instead of Shock. Also, Ball Lightning, Rift Bolt (using the suspend, of course...), and Grim Lavamancer are all looking fun right about now...

Shrine of Burning Rage might go in as well...

FNM report

utter deffeat. Most likely dropping this deck. 1-3, with a bye

I'm stuck.

Lunaris, 13 years ago

I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with this deck. It doesn't seem to work at all. It gets out-paced by Geist of St. Taft decks and overrun by Kessig Wolf Run and it's variants. Here's the competition I normally see: Blue/White and Blue/White/Black St. Taft Kessig Wolf Run Mono Red burn with gobs and shrine Wurmcoil Engines Mono black Infect I've updated the list, and included the only changes i can think of for making any difference in the Maybe board. Someone help. I'm tired of coming in dead last.

Big changes, through enough playtesting I decided to drop Sorin and the adaptive autmatons for Chandra, and another Olivia. I also completely redid my Sideboard.

gorgon_locke, 13 years ago

Coming back from a decent tournament, I've found that the only real weakness this deck seems to have in this format is mono black infect... those damned crusaders.... anyhow, I'm not sure what to do vs that build while keeping the deck mono-white other than going well out of my way (sideboarding Nevermores for example, which is a bit inefficient for the problems posed)

Anyway, let me know if you have any ideas, but so far I'm stumped.

FNM updates

numa529, 13 years ago

Well my shop is at a local mall, so out of around 40 people i did not place top 10, although my record was 3-2... i blame it on having a bye in the second round.

1st round: lost 2-0 to tempered steel. i knew the match up would be difficult. the first game i had no answers when he put 2 tempered steels on the board and i couldn't ping away his creatures. the second game was much closer after siding in artifact hate. we both were almost out of cards, i had 1 and he had 1. he had a Glint Hawk and a Hero of Bladehold, and i had an Inferno Titan. so, i layed down my arc trail to kill the glint hawk and pinged the hero for 1, and tried to swing and ping the hero for 3. unfortunately, the one card he had in hand was a Dispatch... he tapped my inferno titan (no metalcraft) and insured the survival of his hero and swung for the win. i realized in this matchup i need more green mana to flash back Ancient Grudge, so i traded for another Copperline Gorge while there.

2nd round: bye

3rd round: lost 2-1 to wolf run. obliterated him first game, no problems, out controlled his every move. then... he sided in Thrun, the Last Troll. i truly didn't expect this card. he got him out with a sword and i tried stalling by putting in blockers but to no avail. the next game ended quicker with the same combo. turn 3 Sword of Feast and Famine (no counterspells in hand), turn 4 Thrun, the Last Troll and kept swinging from there.

4th and 5th rounds were really nothing to talk about. just UW control, i won 2-0 without having to sideboard, even coming back from the bring down 1 life to 15 against two blade splicers and a golem token. no problems in that match up.

So, without further ado, i have made some changes.

MB: -1 mountain, +1 Copperline Gorge SB: -3 Rolling Temblor, +3 Phyrexian Metamorph

the only thing that scares me in the matchup against wolf run is thrun, because i can't counter it. he plays it without having to worry, and tapping out. i dont like that. i want him to always have to second guess what his best play is. so im going to have to rely on the legendary rule to kill him. switching the mountain because i need green mana.

i also noticed that when i run flashfreeze, im just siding out mana leaks anyway, which are nice but thats what dissipate is for. id rather have more help in the tempered steel matchup. i over anticipated the power of wolf run. does anyone have any suggestions for that? maybe something that destroys enchantments? (Tempered Steel and Curse of Stalked Prey)

- -3 Pristine Talisman - -1 Tumble Magnet - -2 Elspeth Tirel - -1 Plains - -1 Traveler's Amulet - -1 Sun Titan + +2 Blade Splicer (I wanted to put early pressure on opponent, plus it helps if Liliana can't land T3). + +2 Sphere of the Suns (I took out the Talisman, and landing any bigs one turn earlier helps, not to mention just with the mana curve). + +3 Distress (I wanted to be able to take out counter spells, and Despise can't do that). + +2 Gideon Jura + +1 Ghost Quarter SB: - -1 Go for the Throat (there's enough disruption/removal MB, let alone with the Gut Shots and Revoke Existence for Mono-Red and Wolf Run. + +1 Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite

Kace71, 13 years ago

Why isn't wolf run running untamed might or assualt strobe in the sideboard, i don't know. i need help taking out cards and i haven't even built a regular wolf run deck, so im gonna need lots of support from everyone. im also very bad at playing/making control decks. Please +1 Comment and leave any suggestions!
