Ya , how you getting lantern for card advantage and harvest? Yes Is very strong the tutors in combo decks. Suppose this scenario they kill 2 researcher and u have no cards in hand just perplex, the only possible card to get is lantern, to rebuild your game. Another thing latern give u all colors, is a key card.

Another possible build is "land tutors". You can attempt to use land tutors like expeditation map and the other green , another one is comming in FF i din't play test that you don't have time for all details. But i'm guessing width out tutors you will need heavy draw cards witch make combos less efficient since you have less pieces.

In legacy which deck have at least 2 or 3 possible different versions...

How well is Perplex working here? It's a good counterspell, but I think you might get more value from another source of repeatable life gain, or another way to protect Blood Researcher. That looks like part of the main win condition here, so getting it to trigger as many times as possible and keeping it around should be a priority. Is the blue splash helping the deck win?

The awkwardness comes from rule 103.2, the "can't overrides can" rule. You have to actually remove the "this creature can't block" ability. The best workaround I can come up with without a deep dive is

Creatures you control with "This creature can't block." lose that ability.

Basically what Coward_Token suggested.

Kcin That could work, but you would have to explain the custom keyword for an existing ability. Easy to do, like in the reminder text there, but still expect to remind people once in a while.

Nice take on Lathiel! Question: How well does Ashes of the Abhorrent typically play for you? I like graveyard hate, but the lifegain side seems kind of inconsistent.

You summed it up much better than I could have. I did forget Alchemy is a format already too XD, and yes its really only an issue for testing decks that I want to make in paper which I have other options for if I really want.

I do wish brawl queues could be split in including and excluding the arena-only cards. I'm fine about Standard and Pioneer not using them, while Alchemy (which already is a format on Arena) and Historic do use them. I'm not sure about Timeless, I don't think I've played that.

I don't think it's wrong for the cards and effects to exist on the digital way of playing magic, it can be a fun way to test card designs and explore possibilities, and actually have the power to fix them if you break something without needing to wait 6 months for a new ban announcement. I just would like for the only commander- like format that I enjoy playing most, to be able to toggle the option of playing with or without digital-only cards and rebalances, because if you are mostly used to play paper magic, the effects can appear extremely silly or overpowered, and make you go "Wait, WHAT does that card do?" And I can't opt out. In every other aspect of the game client, I think it's being dealt with just fine.

AjMcGamer on MTGA: Alchemy...

Not sure if this is already a thread but does anyone else feel like MTGA needs to make alchemy it's own format?

I hate these 'Hearthstone' style mechanics in MTG. If I wanted to play Hearthstone I would. Conjuring cards, spellbooks, perpetual, none of these belong in a regular game of MTG.

Just my thoughts, would love to hear other opinions on it, maybe im the outlier here.

How about using "rage" for the evergreen for "can't block"

Archetype of War:

Enchantment Creature: Spirit Cleric

Creatures your opponents control have rage (those creatures can't block).

Creatures you control can block as though they didn't have rage.

Maybe "[Creature type] you control lose "this creature can't block."? Kinda like Archetype of Aggression. (E.g. Abandon the Post, Copper Carapace, and Bedlam don't give abilities/rules text, so the "can't have or gain" part feels unnecessary.)

I kinda feel like if Wizards made the card, they'd just keyword "can't block" first.

There are cards like Assault Formation, High Alert, Wakestone Gargoyle that allow creatures with defender to attack as though they didn't have defender.

I want to make a custom commander for a kindred group of creatures known for having card text that reads "this creature can't block" and I want the commander to allow those creatures to block as though they didn't have that restrictive ability. I'm stumped as to how to write that in an understandable and concise manner.

"[Creature type] you control can block as though they didn't have 'this creature can't block.'" reads poorly to me because "this creature can't block" isn't a keyword but an oddly specific line of text.

Most of the creatures of this group have flying, so I've currently settled on, "[Creature type] you control have flying and can block as though they have no other abilities." which feels like it would work better, but I worry it might become confusing if I give one of those creatures something like a Basilisk Collar - would that mean the creature would not have lifelink or deathtouch when blocking with such an effect? It could be confusing for my opponents which I want to avoid.

I'd like to know how exactly you'd write such an effect on a card so that it comes off just as eloquently as the example cards that have "this creature can attack as though it didn't have defender." Do you have any ideas?

I adore Bloomburrow, such a fun plane and a great change of pace of Magic! Sunshower Druid and High Stride are some of the first commons that come to mind when I think of it.

High-Tree Druid

Creature: Squirrel Druid

Vigilance

Whenever a +1/+1 counter is put on ~, it gets +0/+2 until end of turn.

Because of Treetop Sentries, I have elected to make my card a squirrel instead of a frog

I had fun with this challenge! Ether repeat it, or turn an original character of yours into a Magic the Gathering card.

Confused by this card. The Viashino are on old tribe with Dash and Haste. They like to return to hand! Eating your own kind/strategy seems counterproductive. On top of that it's an artificer which implies artifacts and here we have yet another Izzet legend slinging instants and sorceries. Whatever WOTC has been smoking the past few years they need to start sharing with the rest of us.

major revision 2025. I replaced the Force of Nature with Ghalta, Primal Hunger. The pay mana at upkeep mechanic is awkward for a new player, and the simple Ghalta ability plays into the general theme for this green deck. Most importantly, this will really connect with the inner "Timmy" in new players and maybe help get them interested in the hopes they can do the big, flashy thing.

I love the premise, but I think your land count is too low. Yes, you’ll be playing cheap spells or cycling for 1 most of the time but 16 isn’t quite enough to guarantee the power to do so. Dropping some of the creatures down to 3x copies could let you bring the lands to about 18-19 or so.

I won't be changing the helm, unless to another Ob, as I want this to remain a nixilis deck. His story is one of my favorites so I want to showcase as much as I can in the deck, whilst keeping it functional.

I've considered varragoth before and I think he's just not good enough unless he's at the helm. He's basically a 5 mana vampiric tutor that has suspend 2, except he can be removed. Even getting 2 effects off over 3 turns is 7 mana tutor two. For that effect I'll take profane tutor.

Speed demon is interesting and a nice bloodgift demon alternative. And you don't need to wait for upkeep. I might make a swap.

I saw your list and thought I would suggest a couple of ideas.

Since you're running fetch lands you could consider running some number of Godless Shrine and a long side of it, Silent Clearing. My reason is that you can then substitute Damnation with Damn, it's far better than Damnation due to it being both spot removal and a board-wipe when needed. Silent Clearing will also give you additional card draw in the late game and since you run fetch lands you could consider Fatal Push since you will have a decent number of opportunities to have revolt.

Another card you might want to consider is Withering Torment. It costs one more than Feed the Swarm, but is an instant and only costs you two life points. If you do consider my idea of running dual lands you could even go with Vindicate as an option. It would effectively fill the role of Feed the Swarm and Fulminator Mage at the same time, the only downside is that you can't recur it like Fulminator Mage. Another option would be Anguished Unmaking in place of Feed the Swarm. It would deal with every problematic non-land permanent and could potentially cost you less life than Feed the Swarm would.

I would also suggest looking at adding cards like Hopeless Nightmare, The Meathook Massacre and Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet. Hopeless nightmare will still give you control over your opponent's hand and will add to your devotion count. In the late game it can be sacrificed to scry away needless cards. If you play both The Meathook Massacre and Kalitas you end up having a very strong combo. You can clear the board with Kalitas in play and gain some life while creating zombie tokens.

If you wanted some additional ideas you can take a look at my list on my profile.
