Maybe- Opt - Reason // Believe - Pull from Tomorrow
In a new Tribal Standard rotation, Merfolk might not exactly make Tier 1, but I think the right build has a good shot. (At least to be competitive.)
The synergy between
Tishana, Voice of Thunder &
Bounty of the Luxa is the truth. Personally, I think this build has a lot more potential than the latter, but who knows- there is always room for improvement, especially with the Ixalan expansion coming up. Ramp into Nissa, cast Tishana for free? This could certainly benefit with added cantrips and the likes or cards like
Opt to get what you want out of Nissa.
This deck leans more toward a "creature swarm" style. It's no Modern build w/
Aether Vial, but with the added card draw and ramp of
Bounty of the Luxa &
Tishana, Voice of Thunder (as fore mentioned) it is certainly brutal.
The midrange deck wants to control the board when necessary, hitting our creature drops up the curve. With +1/+1 counters on them, they become unblockable thanks to some passive abilities...and become a lot more difficult to target. A lot of can-trips allow us to always have what we need (
Reason // Believe,
Supreme Will,
Opt etc.) and a sideboard full of counter magic should help us answer most situations. (
Heroic Intervention /
Blossoming Defense,
Essence Scatter etc.)
Bounty of the Luxa is the main test subject at the moment- drawing us cards and giving some ramp, although I don't see it being all that necessary. The pseudo-prowess mechanic of
Deeproot Champion is excellent at work here, and cards like
Open Into Wonder make it all the better. In a creature-heavy deck, I think
Uncage the Menagerie would probably be great, as well as
Itlimoc, Cradle of the Sun
