+1 for that Dawn of the Dead reference, and that Chekov quote. Top notch flavor and build, as usual. A few off the cuff suggestions: Syphon Flesh , Call to the Grave , Shepherd of Rot , Animate Dead .

Thanks, babydaggers! Syphon Flesh would be awesome here, though it's a bit high cost for the deck. I will consider it. Call to the Grave has been bounced in and out of this deck multiple times. I love it, but I find that I end up making opponents sacrifice like there's no tomorrow anyway with Grave Pact and Dictate of Erebos . Especially if I can essentially freeze the game with Contamination . Animate Dead looks like a lot of fun though.

I'm amazed you are playing swampwalk & yet don't have a Filth to dump into the graveyard. possibly an Entomb would help too

also Whip of Erebos Combo's really well with Conjurer's Closet & allows you to keep the critters you whip back. you stack the triggers to the closet does the exiling, the whip fills its criteria of putting the creature into exile & the closet brings it back into play.

Renfield286: Wow, Filth is awesome! I didn't see him because when I was building this deck I was doing searches on just zombie creatures, but he's definitely going in here.

I would love to run Entomb , and considered it when building this, but it's just such a pricy card. I'll see what I pull from my Khans boxes and probably trade for it.

I really like Conjurer's Closet with Whip of Erebos . I don't often use the ability on Whip of Erebos because of the exile at end of turn, but that would be perfect. I will definitely look for ways to work that in here.

Thanks for the helpful feedback!

Dark Ritual is a must for a mono black EDH. There are so few options to ramp, and those extra swamps can offer all sorts of oppourtunity.

Quicksilver: Ah, yes. You are right. I hadn't considered it (was going for permanent ramp solutions like Caged Sun and Gilded Lotus as well as Nykthos, but that would be handy in here.

I will say, with Nykthos down, it's pretty easy to be able to tap it for 12 or more mana in this deck, though. The Expedition Map is for that or Urborg, depending on which you need.

Could you add Empty the Pits to this deck? Delving some weaker creatures and unneeded spells to pull out a lot of 2/2 Zombies could help.

jackriottech: I had considered it (I pulled one in my pre-release box) but I kind of feel like the mana cost is too much with the double X, and ideally I'm not going to be exiling anything from my graveyard. I'm running Elixir of Immortality in here specifically to get my spent sorceries and destroyed enchantments back, and to trigger in case something would exile my graveyard.

jackriottech says... #10

It was a thought. It looked like it would be good, but if you are running that Elixir then that's even better.

I'd much rather use an effect that exiles cards from another player's graveyard, lol. But yeah, it's something that could definitely work in this deck. Especially if you were building it and wanted to substitute one of the pricier cards for a budget build, as I don't think it's going to be a very expensive card, even though it is mythic. I may be wrong about that.

It's about $1 as of now, I think.

NoSoyYucateco says... #13

Yeah, I think it might see some play in standard, but in any other format it just isn't as good as other cards. I mean, for 8 mana I can get 13 zombie tokens with Army of the Damned . For the same amount of mana I could get 2 zombies with it, and I would have to exile cards from my graveyard if I was delving it.

That is true. It was a suggestion. Honestly, I figured you'd say that lol.

CelineT:Definitely not a bad idea, especially since Shimian Specter is almost useless in EDH and I don't have a lot of flyers. I will think about her.

A few zombie and monoblack ramp recommendations, in no particular order:

Coffin Queen
Graveborn Muse (perhaps only when you have a sacrifice outlet available)
Helldozer
Lifebane Zombie (somewhat depends on your meta, but if you can bounce him back into play, he nasty)
Noxious Ghoul (can become crushing once you get Endless Ranks rolling)
Skinrender (another ETB effect that just gets more useful each time he recurs)
Stronghold Assassin (sac outlet, zombie, Attrition on a body)
Vengeful Dead (since you aren't in U/B you can't use Diregraf Captain, but this dude does work)
Withered Wretch (graveyard hate, zombie)
Black Sun's Zenith
Plaguebearer (if you have the mana, he's a house, otherwise kind of meh)
Bubbling Muck
Crypt Ghast (not a zombie but good lord it makes mana).

babydaggers: Thanks for some great suggestions!

I am going to swap my Magus of the Coffers for Crypt Ghast , if only because he costs 1 less mana to cast and more or less does the same thing, but also has extort. Aside from that, I feel like I have plenty of mana ramp here, especially with Ashnod's Altar + Gravecrawler .

I do feel like I need more draw, so Graveborn Muse would be great. I was almost thinking about going Necropotence , but I don't know that I have enough lifegain to take that risk. I would only play Graveborn Muse if I had a sac engine down so I could get rid of her if I needed to, but she could totally swing the game here.

As for Bubbling Muck , my only concern is that I am running Urborg, and it applies to all swamps--not just the ones I control, so I am ramping all my opponents as well. That could end up being a very bad thing, or it could end up not really mattering. I'll mull it over.

All your other suggestions are either things I had considered or things I actually had in here at one point and then took out. They are all good ones. I'll keep them in the maybeboard as I playtest and tweak things. Thanks again!

I think, instead of Vengeful Dead , I'll go with the other idea I had been thinking about and adding Blood Artist . Again, not a zombie, but it has insane synergy here.

Dude, this deck is sick. I'm really digging it. My only concern is if that someone plays Iona, then you're stucked. But nevermind, it seems very fun to play, I'd give it a shot if I could. I'd suggest Liliana of the Dark Realms to kick your mana and Quicksilver Amulet to cheat creatures. Cheerz!

Never back down on a card unless your playgroup officially decides to ban it. Sorin Markov is a powerful card, they battle you expecting anything, that's the draw of EDH, almost every card at your disposal.

Quicksilver: I agree with you, and will reconsider him. It caused quite a bit of upset and I decided to take him out. I could always put him back in and just play less aggressively with him, basically just using his -3 ability to seal myself a win. I'm still relatively new to EDH and at the moment I'm finding that I will take any advice anybody gives me on the format, whether it's good or bad advice.

lil_cheez: Thanks! I'm glad you like it. I think I am pretty set for mana ramp at this point, with Cabal Coffers , Crypt Ghast , Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx , Crypt of Agadeem , etc... I'm finding that by turn 5 or 6 I can easily get all the mana I need. If anything, a stronger mechanic would be nice. I don't want to go Necropotence because of the exile rule about discarding cards (you'll notice I tend to discard my own cards a lot with this deck.)

A stronger draw mechanic, that is.
