Hi, this is my idea of a Dimir Mill deck to play in modern format.The deck contains two independent combos:
1) Duskmantle Guildmage + Mindcrank;
2) Grand Architect + Pili-Pala.
The first one allows me to defeat my opponent by hitting him with damage and by milling all his deck at the same time. It's definitely a deathly combo.
The second one gives me infinite mana that I can use in several ways:
The first way is, of course, activate infinite times Duskmantle Guildmage's abilities.Other ways are to activate Mindshrieker's ability infinite times or to mill all my opponents' decks by playing Mind Grind from my hand.
My point is to get one of these combos off within the third turn and win in the fourth.In order to do that I added a few cards that allow me to search quickly all the pieces of the combos, such as Dimir Infiltrator or Muddle the Mixture.
Now, let's talk about the other cards:
- I added Gitaxian Probe because I can give a free look to my opponent's hand while playing one of the other one drop cards I have in the deck. All this, in addition to drawing a card. Simply excellent.
- Although I want this deck be the quickest possible, I am aware that without a sort of defence I can't go far: in this context I put a set of Apostle's Blessing and Duress.
- Judge's Familiar has been definitely replaced by Apostle's Blessing: this awesome instant spell is able to protect either my creatures and my artifacts for only 1 mana and 2 life. This one is better than Mizzium Skin because it gives protection to that spells which don't target any creature, such as Anger of the Gods.
- I added Duress because it allows me to protect my permanents, forcing my opponent to discard a possible danger or at least lets me know what's going to happen in the next rounds.
- I replaced Springleaf Drum with Mystic Speculation just because I need to find my cards quickly and waiting until turn 3 to transmute is a waste of time that can be lethal.
