I think the double protection of Paladin en-Vec is worth considering. Being able to have an untouchable creature against red decks is always nice, and I usually prefer him to Fiendslayer Paladin - I suppose it depends on how much you value the lifelink. Northern Paladin also seems like a gamble, unless you know you regularly fight against black or mostly-black decks.

Enough knights have printed abilities (usually first strike, sometimes protections) that Cairn Wanderer might also be worth considering? Even something like a dead Skyhunter Skirmisher would make him a force to be reckoned with.

I'd Drop the 4x Paladin en-Vec and drop 2x Brave the Elements for an addition of 2x Accorder Paladin, 2x Caravan Escort, and 2x War Falcon.

I'd probably drop five plains for a couple Cavern of Souls, a couple Windswept Heath, and one Mistveil Plains.

The flagstones or heaths can search up and shuffle for the Mistveil Plains, and the Cavern is for straight value.

Hey, I recommend more two and three drop Knights, additional mass protection for Knights, anthems and some ETB untapped dual lands.

Here's some budget (each card $3 or less) suggestions:

Consider reducing the mana curve? Get more Knights into play faster making anthem effects better. Spirit and Escort are not Knights, but they can sac themselves to protect Knights from a board wipe or removal. Both can be reanimated with Sun Titan. Entity is a Knight(Changeling) and very powerful for tribal strategies, it can be a massive anthem.

Cards too consider cutting:

  • Angelic Arbiter
  • Exquisite Archangel
  • Cloud Crusader
  • Reverse Damage
  • Hallowed Burial
  • Consulate Crackdown
  • Guilty Conscience
  • Spirit Mantle
  • Orbs of Warding
  • Isolation Cell
  • Damping Matrix
  • Whispersilk Cloak
  • Veilstone Amulet
  • Wildfield Borderpost


Due to the overwhelming amount of cards especially Knights with double white in their mana cost I suggest for the manabase cutting all Forests, but one. In their place consider more Selesnya dual lands that can ETB untapped: Command Tower, Canopy Vista, Fortified Village, Sungrass Prairie? Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse can also fetch a Forest or a Plains. Tower is a must add for only $1 it's one of the best lands in Commander.

Some things I like:

I'm glad you have a lot of the key pieces already. Stoneforge Mystic, Sigarda's Aid, and Steelshaper's Gift and such.

I also like the fact that this deck seems like it can function very well without the commander.

Some suggestions to put in:

Dowsing Dagger - just a good equipment that, ya'know, turns into a black lotus later.

Sram, Senior Edificer - you desperately need card draw my friend.

Puresteel Paladin - I see him in the maybe board. Put him in.

Stonehewer Giant - never underestimate tutors.

Leonin Shikari - two words: combat tricks.

Dispatch - good removal.

Swiftfoot Boots - protection, haste.

Sword of the Animist - you'll be attacking a lot, this will ramp you a lot.

Open the Armory - yayyy more tutors.

Hammer of Nazahn - auto equip.

Sun Titan - omg dude. 60% can be recurred by this guy. SO worth it.

Foundry Inspector - discounted artifacts.

Sculpting Steel - copy all your best stuff.

O-Naginata - double strike is useless without trample.

Inspiring Statuary - all of your equipment are now mana rocks for your creatures.

Some things to take out:

Grappling Hook - too expensive.

Hammer of Ruin - to limited in what it does, to conditional.

Empyrial Plate - you'll never have enough cards in hand to make this worth it. Better options out there.

Bonesplitter - just a weak equipment.

Cranial Plating - Illegal in a Balan ddeck because of the activated ability

White Knight - lackluster.

Paladin en-Vec - focus on equipment creatures. Stick to the plan!

Kinsbaile Cavalier is needed for knight decks. Fiendslayer Paladin, Mirran Crusader, and Paladin en-Vec are also really good with protection against all the most common removal.
