Johan

Legendary Creature — Human Wizard

At the beginning of your combat phase, you may have Johan gain "Johan can't attack" until end of combat. If you do, attacking doesn't cause creatures you control to tap this combat if Johan is untapped.

The set of Legends introduced both Legendary creatures and multi-coloured cards into the game. More important is the second for the sake of this comment.

Dakkon Blackblade , of the same set as Halfdane , oddly adheres to what we see today of the ordering, being .

Lady Evangela bears the mana cost of .

More inconsistencies can be seen in Sol'kanar ()and Tetsuo Umezawa (), Xira Arien () and Vaevictis (), and, lastly, Angus () and Ragnar ().

Oddly enough, all of the four Naya legends ( Johan , Jacques , Palladia-Mors , and Hazezon Tamar) have the same colour ordering.

All of the two-colour combinations (except for Rakdos ?) are backwards from what we see today, yet are all constant.

The Dark's Scarwood Gobbo () is similar to Legends' mana costs, an ensample being The Lady of the Mountain () (my favourite card of all time).

The afield system seems to have been rectified in Ice Age, for it had Centaur Archer (), Diabolic Vision (), and Chromatic Armor ().

(Legends had Jedit Ojanen ())

My concensus here is that WOTC did not have much of a grasp as to amounts and mana costs in the debut set, whereupon inconsistencies may be seen about the expansion, yet they righted this two releases later.

Not much is actually in this comment, but others may use this information as they wish to sieve through Magic's multi-coloured monstrosities.

Oh it turned out being a supremely fair deck that used cards from pre-block sets (I admittedly got the idea from looking around at the handful of other decks people had made for him). It had very few control elements and mostly just sought to beat face with big inefficient outdated creatures like Johan and Palladia-Mors. Oh, and can't forget my dead ringer Killer Bees. It might be fun to revisit him and TRY to make a more functional old school deck for him, but I had just accepted my fate at the time and went full jank. And no, with the commanders they got you'd think they had cheated lol. One of them got the good Teysa. Can't believe my janky old face beating deck didn't hold up. Go figure huh.

PhyrexianWombat Firstly, thank you for taking so much time to write a well thought out explanation and suggestions. I highly appreciate it! I absolutely agree on Tendershoot Dryad . The addition of Johan , Rienne, Angel of Rebirth , and Mayael the Anima are nothing more than absolute experimental design at the moment, I haven't been able to draw them since the addition to the deck, so right now it's still up for debate. I am almost debating trying out Mayael the Anima as commander and see what happens.

Skyler1776 I'll have to check out some Elspeths and see what I can do. and sweet suggestion on Divine Visitation , my biggest problem for building is not knowing what currently exists out there. Being a newbie is pretty rough when deckbuilding. But, thank you for the suggestions, I'll let you guys know what I do when I update this thing.

I'd suggest, out of cards in your collection already, Swiftfoot Boots , Swords to Plowshares , Rampant Growth , Boros Charm , Generous Gift and Smothering Tithe in the deck, all are excellent cards for pretty much every Commander deck with their colors, and worth a try. If I made a Ghired deck, or almost any R/W/G Commander deck for that matter, I'd likely include all of those.

You could maybe use some more card draw, Guardian Project is a favorite of mine.

Having played against a Ghired deck a lot, I noticed the deck got a lot more efficient when it became focused more on Ghired himself and less on some of the other token producers taking up space. A card like Tendershoot Dryad for example has little synergy with Ghired. Great in a go-wide type of deck, but Ghired wants big stuff, having nothing to populate but a Saproling would be a shame. Plus, as a five-drop it's competing with Ghired to be cast on the same turn.

I'm curious about your inclusion of Johan as well. Awesome Darth Maul lookin art aside, is it really that necessary to grant vigilance? If so, other cards like Heliod, God of the Sun , Brave the Sands , or Angelic Field Marshal all do it more efficiently.

I'm curious, are Rienne, Angel of Rebirth and Mayael the Anima working well in gameplay? Both have cool effects, but are fairly situational, so it's best to pay attention to how much those effects will actually help in gameplay. If it's not enough, there's plenty of other cards that will be effective.

Anyway, sorry to ramble on. It's a cool deck and definitely more cohesive than my early commander decks! Hope I could be some help, and have fun populating rhinos and wurms!

Personally if I were going Naya with the dogs I would probably run Johan as my commander as weird as it sounds.

He costs one more mana than the honored one but his effect on your wolves during combat is much stronger. Vigilance value in commander in a deck that wants to swing cannot be ignored.

Also he may not be deterring attackers like the honored one BUT he also isn't a strong enough commander to warrant any extra attention thats for sure.

Deckologist oh you meany face.

Yea ive been leaning towards jank decks lately. I feel its more fun. Our meta here reached peak powerlevels so people have been building random shit to shake it up. I just built a Johan deck lmao

@CocoV96

Finished: Krenko Challenge

@GlistenerAgent The list I made previously for Johan honestly still works very well with Gahiji, Honored One as its general. Both generals heavily support aggressive, go-wide strategies. Would you still like me to make a new list for Gahiji, or would this one suffice? Johan Challenge
