Vizier of the True

Creature — Human Cleric

You may exert Vizier of the True as it attacks. (It won't untap during your next untap step.)
Whenever you exert a creature, tap target creature an opponent controls.

OK! Playtested 6 games. Here are my thoughts.

The deck is fun! It's super aggressive, and curves into a pretty punishing T4/T5 swing. Even just one round with the Combat Celebrant is pretty devastating.

The mana base is super clunky. Because of having so few basics, the dual lands almost always came down tapped, slowing the deck down pretty hard. Also had a hard time getting up to 4 mana in a few games.

Consider going down 2 Vizier of the Menagerie and 2 Vizier of the True, to go up 4 Plains/Forests. Maybe even go down to 2 Rootbound Crag for 2 more Basics.

Adventurous Impulse never ended up being relevant in any of the games I played. You might be better served by some removal in that slot. Maybe go up 4 Abrade, or put some Ixalan's Binding in sideboard. Having no removal options was a little rough.

The Exert mechanic was awesome though! I had a lot of fun playing with it! Keep up the good work!

Argy the synergy I was referring to was using Verdant Rebirth on Vizier of Deferment to get the ability twice. But now I'm seeing it's other uses. I was looking at this ability as if you would only use it on your opponents creatures, but I guess it can be used as a way to protect an important creature you have, or to untap a creature if it's what you needed in that final push.

skulstads I think the Emissary of Sunrise is a much better card than the other two you mentioned. Oketra's Attendant just seems bad in most ways and doesn't do anything for your deck, and Vizier of the True, while good against decks that play a decent amount of creatures, is just a vanilla 3/2 against non-creature matchups. The Emissary can draw you a land, or filter cards, while still being decent against creature decks thanks to the first strike.

As for Gideon of the Trials, he could be a sideboard piece against control. If you're playing against second sun, they can't win using their main condition. Control decks right now also seem to be using a few big creatures to shut out games, which Gideon's +1 ability takes care of.

reaperofcakes i feel like the Vizier of Deferment is a core card here. While the exile aspect is one thing, flash and the human theme buffs actually can make it a game changer.

After some testing i dont see anything i would change for either gideons that i dont already have. AS for the Emissary of Sunrise i would rather take Oketra's Attendant or Vizier of the True

Booch138 Thanks! I will test the decks vs eachother tomorrow. <3

If this is suppose to be an exert deck then you've put in a lot of bad cards in lieu of good ones like Glorybringer and Ahn-Crop Crasher. Likewise you're completely neglecting white which has many more exert cards that are good or at least better than what you have here like Glory-Bound Initiate, Resolute Survivors, and even Vizier of the True isn't absolutely awful for the them here.

This is an Exert deck I recently created, focused more on clearing the field with first strike and Vizier of the True to allow for decent hits and vigilance to cancel exert's side effect. Food for thought!

instead of Vizier of the True, would you consider Drover of the Mighty ? also ones to consider could be Ripjaw raptor (budget concerns can come with this, could consider Grazing Whiptail if so), Imperial Aerosaur (surprise flying can close out a game), Priest of the Wakening Sun (life gain and tutoring can be super useful, in my experience with that guy), Kinjalli's Sunwing , Commune with Dinosaurs, Verdant Sun's Avatar, Ranging Raptors....

so this is a lot of suggestions,

but if you put Ranging Raptors and Drover of the Mighty , that pairs with Kinjalli's Caller to capitalize on ramping out bigger bombs. also taking advantage of the "dinos matter" would be the inclusion of Kinjalli's Sunwing , Priest of the Wakening Sun, and Commune with Dinosaurs.

Verdant Sun's Avatar is a giant bomb that is really only possible with the other ramp stuff. (could also consider Thundering Spineback if you go down the road of making lots of mana. good mana sink)

ill slap a list together and post it on here of what i think. i dig it though. is there any "lifegain matters" in standard at the moment? if so all the lifegain stuff (Ravenous Daggertooth included) could be a veritable strategy with a sort of build like this.

Leafwing01 No problem, I actually made an exertion deck myself revolving around Combat Celebrant and Vizier of the True. It's meant to prevent your opponent from blocking the extra attacks by tapping them.

You might consider Oketra's Avenger as a good substitute for a low cost creature with exert (which also prevents any and all damage done to her that turn)

As well as Vizier of the True to get rid of their blockers very fast, every time you exert a creature you can tap a target creature (prevent them from blocking)

Both low cost creatures that can have impact in the game, especially with what you are running.
