Tetsuo Umezawa Discussion

This is an awesome idea. I incidentally found two mistakes in your list:

I'm very sure Tetsuo Umezawa is from Dominaria, still you have him listed in your Kamigawa compartment. His ancestor Toshiro was brought to dominaria by Myojin of Night's Reach and founded his own country there.

Also in your Kamigawa part, you didn't mention Kaseto, Orochi Archmage

I think this should be looked at two ways - best swordsman and best magically enhanced swordsman. A lot of the nominees have had to heavily rely on magic (thinking about Tetsuo Umezawa) to augment their natural abilities. In this vein of swordsman, I think Nahiri, the Lithomancer is a good candidate. She has thousands of years of experience, and not only can she wield two swords at once, Nahiri's Wrath depicts her with 5. So while her raw talent as a swordsman (swordswoman?) might be less than other characters from lore, I think she might be able to beat many of them with her enhanced abilities.

dusterGGG Tetsuo Umezawa is one of very, very few to even challenge Nicol Bolas, let alone survive, let alone come out on top. He did have to use a unique spell, though. Still a strong contender.

A regular at my LGS has a sweet Bolas-theme deck, with a few deeper references. Some of the highlights are Tetsuo Umezawa (though with his price tag, any Umezawa should work. Bolas has a grudge against all Umezawas after Tetsuo was able to defeat him), judge promo Mana Drain (also pretty expensive, but it’s the only one with Bolas flavor text), Herald of Leshrac, and various cards with names similar to Bolas’s power suite (Psychic Intrusion, Extract from Darkness, etc.). His was very spell-based, and really fun to play against for the lore and thought dedicated to the references. I know some of these are kinda expensive, but I hope this helps!

Tetsuo Umezawa defeated Bolas by severing his mind from his body and then killing the body. I don't know the details of how Bolas regained a physical form. The simple answer is that his current body is not his original body.

I know this is a stretch.

The most obscure thing I am currently looking for is a Tetsuo Umezawa. I dont have a ton that equal its value, but I do have either Liliana of the Veil that I'd trade for one and some value or Jace, the Mind Sculptor to work things out, or can piece other things together.

Does anyone have one they would trade?

Rally the Ancestors, Thatcher Revolt (maybe), Norin the Wary, and Champion of the Parish are pretty strong cards to run for tribal humans, especially since you're going for the aristocrat theme. Since you already have Xathrid Necromancer, Rally + a Sac outlet just makes them all zombos and puts them back in your yard.
Is Dawnbringer Charioteers ever good enough though? Otherwise Throne of the God-Pharaoh is always stellar in go-wide aggro decks.
I haven't attempted Humans but have been considering it with Tetsuo Umezawa but still unsure of it, but what you have going seems perfectly good. OH! Viridian Longbow is great to let your Queen assassinate her prey :p

sonnet666 Well, the mending thing is more speculation than anything.

Plus, Tetsuo Umezawa killed pre-mending Bolas. He's a mere human.
