Temur vs Naya Werewolf EDH

Commander Deck Help forum

Hello fellow commanders! I wanted to pick the brain of the community to see what may be a better direction to expand my werewolf tribal EDH deck.

Currently I'm debating between adding blue or white as both offer ways of restricting the number of spells cast per turn and have commanders that have some synergy with werewolves.

Blue opens up card draw, counter magic, and more control. It also allows me to play Arcane Laboratory. I would likely have Surrak Dragonclaw lead the pups.

White opens up strong removal, prison/tax effects, control, and life gain. It also has Eidolon of Rhetoric and Rule of Law. I would likely use Gahiji, Honored One as my commander. Lastly, white offers a lot of human support which can help the front side of werewolves since that will be the side most frequently seen in a multiplayer game.

So people of the Internet, what say you? Thanks!

Wizno,
I'm a huge fan of Naya, so I'd lean that way just on general principle! But please take my opinion with healthy skepticism, as I run Rith, the Awakener and Hazezon Tamar, with not a single Werewolf between them.

In case you haven't already, there are at least a few Naya builds and Temur builds worth checking out here on T/O.

Good luck (and good skill) on the build!

Blue has counters and draw, but you would be casting lots of spells yourself. The trick is to let green do the draw for you. Elemental Bond, Life's Legacy, Momentous Fall, Tireless Tracker, Garruk's Packleader, etc.

White has but Curse of Exhaustion, Spirit of the Labyrinth, Grand Abolisher. It limits yourself as well, but white plays a harder control.

Not to mention Harsh Mercy, Marshal's Anthem, True Conviction. Plus you have better access to Vigilance.

However, Surrak Dragonclaw gives more value as a commander than Gahiji, Honored One. All Surrak has to do is buff the creatures by 2 to meet Gahiji's standards, but Gahiji has to make them uncounterable, and have trample. A little bit tougher, but not impossible.

Personally if I were going Naya with the dogs I would probably run Johan as my commander as weird as it sounds.

He costs one more mana than the honored one but his effect on your wolves during combat is much stronger. Vigilance value in commander in a deck that wants to swing cannot be ignored.

Also he may not be deterring attackers like the honored one BUT he also isn't a strong enough commander to warrant any extra attention thats for sure.
