Howl from Beyond Discussion

Oh, if we're including Howl, it's gotta be the Ice Age Howl from Beyond

Ah, what is there to dislike about life gain? The deck looks sweet, however, I do have some suggestions.

Whilst Exstort is a lovely mechanic, I feel as if many of these creatures are lacking. Basilica Guards, Kingpin's Pet, Knight of Obligation, Thrull Parasite, and Syndicate Enforcer all just have egregious stats. Similarly, Resplendent Mentor is a five Mana 2/2 that doesn't do something immediately unless you have a board state.

Armillary Sphere doesn't do much. You probably prefer to cast your commander than paying four and finding two basics.

Endless Scream is far too much Mana for what it does in my opinion. Same with Howl from Beyond.

Linden, the Steadfast Queen just seems awesome in here, as does Shadowspear and Loxodon Warhammer. Ivory Tower and Revenge of Ravens could be interesting.

You have quite a bit of creature based removal, thus you may wish for dealing with other permanents. Despark, Generous Gift, and Disenchant are all great.

That's all from me. Good luck!

griffstick on Is Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon ...

So I watched the command zone episode about a week ago, where they talk about aggro and put the scary infect stragity to shame. But they may have forgot how good the color black is and how good Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon is.

Then I saw that there is two Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon decks in the tapped out top spot @ #1 and #2. Then I got to thinking. Could Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon be the best edh aggro deck?

Ok I know there's other good ones like Purphoros, God of the Forge and Xenagos, God of Revels you name it whatever. But black has tutors and black has card draw and black has ramp and black has Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon as a legend.

There's also strong aggro cards in black with Dark Ritual , Bubbling Muck , Hatred , Howl from Beyond and many more cards in black for fast damage.

Ok so what would be some cards a mono black aggro deck would have with Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon as the Cmdr. If you rather not say what cards would be good in that deck, you could tell me why he would be a bad aggro deck, and why other ones are better.

Aggre or disagree, I want to know what you think. I need ideas and info, so please reference cards here (with brackets) alot.

Thanks spiral_te! Commander is my bread and butter, and I've been playing dumb timmy strategies like this since I started playing.

What you're saying about wincons as SS's does make sense though. I might make Find / Finality my SS and hide a few black X spells like Torment of Hailfire and maybe Howl from Beyond throughout the deck. If I can find an oathbreaker group to play with, I might use Exsanguinate because it can keep me alive. Even if I can't kill everyone with it, draining everyone for even 7 and gaining could keep me alive for a few more turns to set up a win.

Thanks for the advice!

hkhssweiss - sure it is a great piece, same as Howl from Beyond but gave up on pump spells to make the deck more "gentle". My main playgroup is rather easy-going (deck costs around 150$).
