Encircling Fissure

Instant

Prevent all combat damage that would be dealt this turn by creatures target opponent controls.

Awaken 2— (If you cast this spell for , also put two +1/+1 counters on target land you control and it becomes a 0/0 Elemental creature with haste. It's still a land.)

So you missed some stuff you should definitely fit in: Blessed Respite, Encircling Fissure, Knight-Captain of Eos, and Slaughter the Strong. Similarly, Blunt the Assault seems like a must given your lack of life gain and your wincon requiring a large life total. I'd also look into more life gain in general.

Clinging Mists, Druid's Deliverance, Frontline Strategist (especially to increase the Eos synergy), Inspire Awe, Obscuring Haze, Pause for Reflection, Spike Weaver, and Spore Flower are also worth considering.

But don't you think that 27 cats is enough, TriusMalarky?? I'd rather cut some cats and get more lands. Remember that this is also a token deck, so Pride Sovereign would greatly benefit when there are a lot of tokens of 1/1 lifelink cats which also get buffs.

Pride Sovereign in numbers of 2 is really useful with Blessed Alliance, and can generate tokens on his own. I am using Regal Caracal for tokens as well. I have 4x Anointed Procession for a reason. I've usually had great success using tokens in my cat deck. I also have 1xSundering Growth for its populate ability not to mention it will be useful if I ever need a artifact or enchantment removed, which will most likely be hard to draw this card, but regardless I believe it will be used often in games.

The reason I don't have many Feline Sovereigns is because I traded one for Unbreakable Formation. This balances out my ability to have +1/+1 with a creature and instant. But does the Feline Sovereign only give +1/+1 when its on the battlefield, or not?

I_Want_To_PlayAllTheDecks Birthing Pod is really nice. But I don't think I could use that to eternalize adorned pouncer or anything like that; the only card it would work on is Regal Caracal when paying 4 or 3 mana and 2 life for making a 5 mana creature. And Karn, the Great Creator is only useful if I'm running lots of artifacts. And what is CoCo? With Ajani's Pridemate if I have a lot of 1/1 lifelink cat tokens, and attack with those using Encircling Fissure, I can buff him up so much it will be very useful to have Setessan Training and/or Angelic Gift.

Adorned Pouncer is very expensive mana-wise when you eternalize it, so it will be late in the game when I use it. Same goes for Fleecemane Lion. And Bronzehide Lion is expensive for making a single creature indestructible when I can use something like Unbreakable Formation for 1 more mana cost while buffing my entire army. Yes, they're good for 3/3 for 2 mana, but regardless I have other cards for that. For instance, Prowling Serpopard is very useful against blue counter heavy decks, covering my entire army with their ability, and is a 4/3 for 3 mana.

Angelic Gift is a must if I'm facing flying decks or if there are decks that don't have fliers or reach so I can deal direct damage, and on top of that it functions as a 2 mana cost draw 1. Just think if I used that on a Eternalized Adorned Pouncer!

What I need are tutors or something that allows me to pick out what I need for whatever occasion; that's how a good toolbox deck would work. Perhaps splashing black for Agonizing Remorse and Lay Bare the Heartand Grim Tutor??? Hand control is great when you know what cards are best in their hand, and Grim Tutor is currently the best tutor in Pioneer, I think.

Hello, Kaiser_Silver7 and thanks for posting!

I can't afford Temple Garden. And, Unclaimed Territory can be a problem if I draw anything other than a creature card, and on top of that everything in my deck is either green or white so it's no big deal to go without Unclaimed Territory.

Also, Always Watching will be useless with my tokens, as I plan on spamming 1/1 lifelink cats. I like watchers of the dead because it's a solid 2/2 and can be sacrificed to empty graveyards. I like Encircling Fissure because it is what will allow me to attack with tons of cat tokens without sacrificing them to the blocker.

Heroic Intervention is like Encircling Fissure, but I don't know which is better.

Unbreakable Formation costs 1 white and 2 generic, so it's just as good as Feline Sovereign, the difference being that one is a creature that can be killed, and the other an instant.Should I replace Feline Sovereign with Unbreakable Formation? I mean, both are really useful.

Collected Company could be useful, as I have generally 3 mana cost cards or lower, but it costs 4 mana for what is 3 or less mana, and I don't know the chances of drawing a 3 or lower mana card. Perhaps you can show me the mathematics behind it? I don't particularly like cards that say 'draw X' and then 'keep x and discard x'. I have Angelic Gift and Setessan Training for drawing power, but they also have other benefits.

What cards would you cut from my collection of creatures?

I'm trying to make this a toolbox deck, which is why i have Sundering Growth, Angelic Gift, Blessed Alliance,Prowling Serpopard, and Watchers of the Dead. Anything that will make it more varied in being prepared for anything would be great!

Hi! I saw the deck, and it seems very funny!, but i think that you could include other cards that in my opinion is good with the deck. I guess that you didn't put shocklands or more Unclaimed Territory because it increase the cost of the deck, but its necessary have x4 Unclaimed Territory in a tribal deck and Temple Garden. With this lands, you don't have to worry about the mana, so i take off Open the Gates.Shefet Dunes can be a great card in this deck too.

I think that is better put Sundering Growth in sideboard, to avoid have useless cards in some matchs. Maybe you could replace Watchers of the Dead for Bronzehide Lion, because is more aggresive and it resists wraths. In this deck, could be usefull : Always Watching, Unbreakable Formation or Ajani, the Greathearted. And is essential to have in a creature deck Heroic Intervention in main or side. Also i change Encircling Fissure for Collected Company, is more usefull in this deck, you have already many cards against aggro, i dont see necessary.

You’re, absolutely right, Encircling Fissure would be better than Winds of Qal Sisma, can’t believe I missed it. It does the exact same things, except they’re more consistent and gains more semi-relevant text for the late game, which is well worth the extra mana. Plus, it’s in white, which is your primary colour, so you’re more likely to have the necessary mana to cast it in a pinch.

I feel we will always disagree regarding Watchers of the Dead. To me it’s a card that does two things badly, to the point where you’d always be better off playing a card that only did one of those things properly. A Fleecemane Lion will always be a better body on the board, will always trade better, deal with removal better and will be something that your opponent will have to do something about before you make it monstrous. In a tiny number of cases the graveyard hate might be needed more, but the number of times where this makes Watchers the better card for you are tiny. In terms of actual graveyard hate, Tormod's Crypt is just infinitely better. The difference between no graveyard and two optimal cards in a graveyard is game losing for you. I’m not entirely sure what you’re getting at with your opponent signalling what they’re doing in what they keep, most of the time it’s pretty obvious what the danger cards are, be it an Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath, a Prized Amalgam, or just a big Eldrazi in a reanimator deck. Also, with Lurrus of the Dream-Den, Tormod’s can kill their graveyard every turn for free, basically shutting down their entire deck unless they can find an answer, which is surely much more desirable. And with regards to Lurrus, he can bring back ANY two drop, and actually interacts better with many of the others in your deck, since returning Watchers implies that you haven’t used it for its full value initially, whereas you probably will have with your other two drops. Finally, the fact that it is also an artifact can also be pretty relevant, and not in a good way. Many decks will have incidental artifact hate built into their decks, be that to counter decks built around Ensoul Artifact effects, Shadowspear or even to kill of the graveyard hate cards like Grafdigger's Cage, and to have the card even more vulnerable to removal than practically every other creature in the deck seems kinda problematic.

What about Encircling Fissure? Would that be equivalent to Winds of Qal Sisma?

I'm not sure what happened with my above comment. The "spoiler" buttons don't seem to work anymore, even though they worked fine when I was posting it. :\ Must be a T/O bug. In any case, here's the same comment as above, but with accordions, which still seem to work.

You're actually fine using a Protection card that targets only one creature, because all you have to do is play it in response to the Declaration, targeting the same creature that the Declaration player targeted, and then Declaration will have an illegal target, causing the entire spell to fizzle. But that said, single-target Protection doesn't help against burn. I'd suggest Heroic Intervention to protect against both threats — and bonus points, it has a CAT in the art! XD

Before talking about this card specifically, first a quick note regarding "fog" effects: Some people actually feel similarly about "fog" effects as they do about lifegain — it doesn't deserve an entire card slot to itself. The rationale behind this is the same as with lifegain — a Fog neither develops your board, removes threats, nor decreases your opponent's life total. It essentially amounts to a lifegain spell that gains you the same amount of life as you were dealt in combat. That said, if you can find a Fog that does allow you to have an effect on the game, they can be great.

Alright, so on to your card choices. Unless you really care about the cycling, I'd actually choose a different Fog effect in its place, as both the CMC of Haze (2) as well as its cycling cost (3) are over-costed ( Fog costs 1 and cycling is usually 2). In its place, I recommend one of the following:

  • Druid's Deliverance — Since you have a lot of token generation, you'll almost always benefit from Populate. Note also that it doesn't prevent damage to creatures, so it gives you the option of not blocking at all to save your creatures, or choosing to block in order to remove threats as well as gain life and/or put your Pouncers and Sacred Cats into the graveyard. So this Fog does develop your board a little, and allows for the possibility of removing threats.
  • Encircling Fissure — This costs 3, but it has a couple benefits. Unlike Druid's Deliverance, this allows you to freely block any way you want, more easily allowing you to kill threats while benefiting from Lifelink, since your creatures still get to deal damage. The second benefit is that, late game, the Awaken option adds a little more power to your board, which could be the little extra you needed to turn the tide.
  • Heroic Intervention — Already mentioned above and not technically a Fog, but since you will in general have so many blockers, it effectively becomes a Fog if you can block all the damage from getting to you (obviously won't work against evasion like Trample or Flying). As with Encircling Fissure, it has the added benefit of allowing you to stack-block creatures to remove threats, as well as allowing you to benefit from Lifelink.
  • Winds of Qal Sisma — It is so easy for you to control a creature with power 4+, between Pridemate, Sovereign, and an eternalized Pouncer. And if you do, then this becomes an Encircling Fissure for 1 less mana.

Of them, my favorites are Druid's Deliverance and Heroic Intervention.

Like I said before, I already feel like you DO have heavy-hitters (Pridemate, Sovereign, an eternalized Pouncer). The only thing Oketra has that they don't is indestructible (and a high-costed token producing ability). But Oketra also has the drawback of potentially being useless, as well as having no synergy with Sovereign or Regal Caracal.

That said, if you really want the Indestructible (and temporary Indestructible from instants like Valorous Stance or Heroic Intervention aren't good enough), then I recommend Fleecemane Lion — an efficiently-costed early threat that later becomes an Indestructible, Hexproof 4/4 — or Temur Sabertooth , who has a repeatable Valorous Stance ability that actually combos nicely with both Regal Caracal (creating more cat tokens after re-casting) and Pride Sovereign (who can be Exerted, returned with Sabertooth, then re-casted next turn untapped and ready to block).

Sadly, neither of them benefit from the Monument's mana reduction.... but honestly, I don't think that's the most important element of your deck to be building around. Monument is a nice "extra" if you happen to draw it and have high-CMC white creatures, but it's not a necessity for the deck to function well, IMO.
