Pack Rat

Creature — Rat

Pack Rat's power and toughness are each equal to the number of Rats you control.

The only synergy Elas il-Kor, Sadistic Pilgrim would have is with Lord Skitter, Sewer King and Pack Rat and possible we could have Spark Double come in as 2nd Skitter than use use Brion Stoutarm to rat tokens . Of course we have Hornet Nest on top of that.

I don't think I'm interested in Jhoira's Familiar in this deck. If you reliably cast two historic spells each turn, then it's essentially Sisay's Ring as it is providing you with two generic mana. If you reliably cast three spells each turn, then it's Thran Dynamo. I suppose it has some upside being a creature with flying, but it also has some downsides since it can't help us cast our non-historic spells. It's good in a deck where you can reliably cast two or more historic spells in a turn, especially in artifact decks where you can combine it with other similar effects and start casting artifacts for zero mana. In this deck, however, I think we are only occasionally casting more than one spell per turn. I think we are normally tutoring with Buttercup and hopefully casting one additional spell. If I decide I want another ramp piece, then I either want to bring back Deathbloom Gardener for the deathtouch synergies or another 2-mana ramp piece that can produce multiple colors. Something like a Fellwar Stone would be one of my next considerations.

Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain on the other hand would be a very good fit. It's another legendary with two colors, so it pumps Buttercup's power by 2. And more card draw is always good. My budget-minded side wants to swap this card in and take out Reki as that would save me at least $5.00. But the deck builder inside me never wants to cut card draw and knows there are weaker cards I could remove. It's a dilemma...

At this point the weakest non-Princess Bride card is Lord Skitter, Sewer King which is only included for the flavor of buffing our Rodents of Unusual Size (Pack Rat). And, yes, I absolutely plan to tutor for Lord Skitter if I draw the Rodents, even though it will never be the smartest move if my goal is to win. The ultimate goal, of course, is to have fun with Princess Bride cards, although I am trying to win some games along the way. So it's a balance between optimizing the deck for power while still "optimizing" for flavor.

All that to say I believe Jhoira deserves a slot but I'm struggling to decide what to remove! Any suggestions are welcome. Perhaps something will come to me after more playtesting...

Sorry if some of these are pricier than what you're looking for, here are a few cards that are probably pretty good with Marneus. Pack Rat is probably worth a look, even if you use no other rats. Ogre Slumlord is a nice budget source of tokens, since the tokens have Deathtouch you have decent odds of making more tokens if people attack you. Ophiomancer is an interesting way to draw cards, you probably want some sacrifice outlets to draw a card on each turn. Shorikai, Genesis Engine works with or without your Commander, as does Faerie Formation. I think Mirror-Sigil Sergeant is pretty cool if you have your Commander out, you can make quite a few tokens if the Sergeant survives, but each is it's own trigger, so you'll draw lots of cards I think. Jadar, Ghoulcaller of Nephalia is an unusual token generator, though it'll max out at 1 token per turn it offers a way for that token to die each turn to make space. Pitiless Plunderer is probably a shoo-in with your Commander, Plunderer + Ashnod's Altar + Marneus = Draw your deck and infinite ETB/Death triggers. Similar to Plunderer but a bit different, Revel in Riches will draw a card each time an opponent's creature dies, and if you can amass enough treasure you just win on the spot.

If you typically have lots of small tokens as your main attack force you could try Meekstone, this type of card can be annoying if you play it without a plan, but most decks care more about untapping large creatures than you do. That said, it may attract some negative attention, something to keep in mind. There are also things like Propaganda, Ghostly Prison, War Tax, and Windborn Muse to consider, there are other similar cards.

Ah the joys and downfalls of building a typal EDH deck! So many fun cards to choose from, until you have to get your list down to 100- we've all been there!

My suggestions to cut are:

Professional Face-Breaker, Pawn of Ulamog, Nezumi Informant, Nezumi Graverobber  Flip, Murderous Rider to name a few. You seem to have a really big treasure subtheme but also a good deal of mana rocks. The treasure subtheme seems strong with this build, especially with cards like Mayhem Devil and Mirkwood Bats- So I would definitely recommend cutting more than a few mana rocks like your signets etc. Honestly, there's quite a few random rat creatures you could cut entirely to make more room for cards like Pack Rat and Rat Colony

What are your thoughts on Pack Rat? It grows alongside Relentless Rats, potentially getting even bigger, and can turn unneeded lands or situational cards into more power. Like Piper of the Swarm, one of them is an army.

Might I suggest Pack Rat as (as far as I can tell) it'd synergize amazingly with rat colony and marrow gnawer

Hi there! How is it going? I know this deck was uploaded many years ago, but since it says it was updated two weeks ago from now, I'll drop a comment.

Even though it is a budget deck, you can still put one or two Liliana, Waker of the Dead since it is an economic card that does what you need.

Notes: - 21 lands seems too few for a deck that discards lands to Raven's Crime and also sacrifices lands to Smallpox - 3 copies of Murderous Cut seems too much since you won't be able to quickly drop 15 cards to your graveyard for it's delve. I really like the card, but the safest choice would be to play a singleton (only 1 copy) since you don't to see more than 1 in your hand. So maybe replace 2 copies of it for Fatal Push or Bloodchief's Thirst - Taking out all 8 racks for the whole rat pack would turn your discard cards kinda useless since you won't be getting any advantage out of your empty handed opponent (except for that single Nezumi Shortfang  Flip ). So maybe what you should for the second match is to take out the Smallpox and the Wrench Mind and also the Raven's Crime since you will prefer to discard those extra lands to Pack Rat instead of discarding them to Raven's.
