Now with LESS Creatures —Oct. 21, 2016

After lots of playtesting and a couple of tournaments I've changed the build to make it less creature-heavy, and more about SUPPORTING those creatures.

Seems to be a lot stronger and much more consistent.

I knew there was a good build with the energy mechanic. What are your thoughts on blink effects like Eerie Interlude or Long Road Home to block and then remove from combat to protect your creatures and get additional energy? Maybe take out a rhino, a hawk and the sages for some of those effects? Might not be necessary if you can get multiple triggers going.

Thanks firemind12.

I have looked at both of those cards and considered them for the Sideboard.

While they both save a Creature they do also get rid of the Counters it has accrued.

I've adjusted this a little bit to make it more Creature heavy, so I'm not that worried about losing one or two.

A lot of your creatures provide energy as they ETB so have you considered Panharmonicon as a way of accruing even more. Animation Module and Fabrication Module both provide means of getting even more +1/+1 counters and are good mana sinks if the game goes long.

Yeah monkeyprophet there are a tone of good Artifacts that can be played and I considered and playtested most of them.

In the end it came down to choosing the most effective ones, which I believe I have done.

Panharmonicon hits the field late. If it was cheaper it would have made the cut. I've got other ways of getting Energy Counters.

Animation Module and Fabrication Module are both OK, but I prefer the other Artifacts I have chosen.

At the end of the day I can't win with a field full of Artifacts.

I also don't to get TOO invested in getting +1/+1 Counters, or I run the risk of investing a lot of tech into something that can be easily wrecked with a Declaration in Stone.

I will keep your suggestions in mind if I find that the deck needs a fair bit of tweaking.

Love the deck. Big fan of Longtusk Cub and long to playtest him.

I do think the mana base is a bit greedy with Aetherstorm Roc and Bristling Hydra on the curve. Granted Servant of the Conduit is here to help. Aether Hub seems like an auto 4x of to lock in the drops on turn 4. But if not four a couple seem good, too. Not sure about 4x Sea Gate Wreckage. Seems a tad redundant for Standard. Particularly because it's situational and provides just colorless.

HairyManBack you're absolutely right, and echoed what I've been thinking.

I've now replaced Sea Gate Wreckage with Aether Hub.

HairyManBack says... #7

Yeah, I think you'll be happy with Aether Hub. Could see some kind of utility land alongside Hub. Would guess playtesting in the field would answer that.

Not sure yet how good Hub is in Standard quite yet. But in energy builds its gotta be the best land option, imo. It's a superior reprint that already sees play in Modern and other formats. Which says a lot to me. Probably one of the best cards I've seen in Kaladesh. Still I could be wrong. ...But this old school player doesn't think so. :D

I wouldn't play any other land that produces colourless. I need all the White and Green sources, and this card doesn't muck that up.

Sometimes one more Energy Counter is just what you need.

StuBi,
Flavor Judge says you've just got to have Sequestered Stash.

You know, for the folks on Engineered Might ...

What do you think of Attune with Aether as an energy source and a fixer for 1 mana?

I tried to make a Energy Fog deck here and it produces a lot of energy! Just lacks a bit of a finisher.. Energized Fog

StuBi says... #12

Kizmetto I tested with Attune with Aether and it was rubbish.

This deck has enough Ramp going on, and has no way of playing extra land.

It made far more sense to have a Creature in place of this non-creature spell as you get the EC PLUS an extra body on the board.

What is your thought on Hardened Scales?

September 28, 2016 1:51 a.m.

StuBi says... #14

My thoughts are that Hardened Scales is not a Standard legal card and this is a Standard deck.

clayperce the good folks who brought you Engineered Might thank you for your very practical Sequestered Stash suggestion.

Unfortunately we can no longer sequester our stash as it seems to have disappeared.

This isn't much against ramp or heavy-hitter decks. Maybe more removal, or some buffs to kill your opponents faster with your flyers?Gets killed by this..http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/repeating-shotgun/playtest/

Jallious all that stuff is in the Sideboard.

Have you considered swapping Immolating Glare for Blessed Alliance? It provides a similar effect as often i can see you wanting to side it in against decks that have a big powerful threat that will be the only thing attacking. It also gets around Emrakul, the Promised End's protection from instants and indestructible creatures aren't safe from it. It also provides extra utility against burn decks with the life gain and can blow out combats with it's untap mode. And of course later in the game you can use all 3 to really mess an opponents day.

There are a few things that your deck (potentially) could benefit of:

... phew. Sorry for writing all that. Didn't intend for it to be that much at first.

September 30, 2016 6:59 a.m.

StuBi says... #20

Colorschemer this deck relies on as much synergy with Energy Counters as possible to work. A lot of your suggestions don't, so they aren't right for it.

I will respond to a couple of them, as I don't want to be here all night.

Since I want the best chance possible to get Authority of the Consuls in my opening hand it will remain as a four of. You do realise that more copies on the field give me more life for each Oppponent Creature played?

I don't want to use flicker effects as most of my Creatures will be accruing +1/+1 Counters. I have heard this idea before, but I'd rather have a Creature that gives me Energy Counters and a body, than a card that does the same thing, but only if I have a Creature already on the field.

My Creatures that grow big ARE my finishers. If I was gonna add something to the mix it would be Always Watching , not Gideon. However, I'd rather have the Enchantments I've chosen than either of those.

Archangel Avacyn  Flip in my Sideboard is what I use to protect my Creatures.

StuBi says... #21

monkeyprophet I've played a lot of games using Celestial Flare in the past. I don't want a card that may not get rid of the Creature I want to. Immolating Glare will primarily be used to get rid of Land Creatures.

I have Declaration in Stone for Emrakul, but Angelic Purge also works against her, and takes care of Indestructible Creatures.

You should try Durable Handicraft. Its the base along with Key to the City of my deck G/U Aggro. I like this!

September 30, 2016 10:55 a.m.

Colorschemer says... #23

I'm fully aware of the lifegain a stack of Authority of the Consuls can provide, and a high guarantee for drawing early it is nice, but it seems a little... redundant when you might need a card that can turn the tide.

Maybe you're right for all I know. Was just my two cents.

September 30, 2016 11 a.m.

StuBi says... #24

KingEnma it's interesting that you mentioned Durable Handicraft as I was taking another look at that tonight.

I will definitely replace Consulate Surveillance with it, if I think it will work better.

At this stage I'm going to wait and see how this original version of the deck goes before I adjust it.

I played the Nissa Planeswalker deck tonight, with a few tweaks. It's GB Energy Counters.

It actually played very well, making me confident that an Energy focused deck can succeed.
