Kaladesh Energy Drink. Erm, I mean Energy Deck. Is it just me or does that look like a giant stash of weed they are carrying?

On to business.

HOW TO PLAY

Early Game

Note that Authority of the Consuls doesn't make many Vehicles come in tapped, as most aren't Creatures when they hit the field.

  • Pay attention to the fact that you get 1 life every time an OPPONENT plays a Creature, if you have Authority of the Consuls on the field, and you get an Energy Counter every time YOU play a Creature, if you have Aetherstorm Roc on the field.

Mid Game

  • Get Always Watching on the field as soon as you can because it can help to make your Creatures bigger than your Opponent's.

  • Try to get the timing right to play Fairgrounds Trumpeter. You want it on the field fairly soon in the mid game, so it can start hitchhiking with other Creatures to get extra +1/+1 Counters. However you don't want to play it instead of a Creature that can give an attacking or blocking advantage.

IMPORTANT: You can manipulate your +1/+1 Counters to make Fairgrounds Trumpeter grow faster. Attack with a Creature on your turn, put a +1/+1 Counter on it. Fairgrounds Trumpeter gets a +1/+1 Counter at end of your turn. Put a +1/+1 Counter on Longtusk Cub on your Opponent's turn, then Fairgrounds Trumpeter gets a +1/+1 Counter at end of their turn.

Late Game

  • Squeeze damage through with Nature's Way by giving a large Creature Tranple, as a finishing move. This card is good for picking off the biggest threats throughout the game.

  • Work out the best way to spend :

    1. Give Bristling Hydra Hexproof. Most of the time this is what you want to do.
    2. Pump up Longtusk Cub in the pre-damage phase.
    3. Continue to pump up both Aetherstorm Roc and Thriving Rhino, as you see fit.
SIDEBOARD

Archangel Avacyn   if I need a Flier, a way of protecting my Creatures, or a board wipe.

Immolating Glare can be exchanged for Declaration in Stone if I need Instant speed removal of a Creature.

Quarantine Field is the only direct way you have of dealing with Planeswalkers. It can also be used to deal with all the Artifacts that might be running around in Kaladesh.

Selfless Spirit can save Creatures from a board wipe, allow you to block without losing anyone, or even chump block a Flier.

[An earlier version had Engineered Might it's what I need ... hardly ever ... OK, always, but it's not an addiction, coz my doctor gave me a prescription (let's see who gets that reference).Great late game card. Both modes can help to win the game.]

The following cards have already been considered, but did not make the cut. Check the Comments if you want to find out why.

MATCH REPORT

1-2 Vehicles

I blitzed the first game, he got me the second game, then I lost the third game through bad draw. I started with too many lands in hand then drew land three times in a row.

2-0

NO idea what the theme of this deck was. He played Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet, Tamiyo, Field Researcher, and Kiora, Master of the Depths, but there didn't seem to be any overarching theme.

This guy has been playing at my LGS for about a year and he NEVER gets any better at playing. He makes the same silly mistakes over and over. This time he kept trying to remove my Bristling Hydra while I had enough to make it Hexproof.

2-1 Control and Burn

This deck had lots of Counter and removal spells. Win Cons were Chandra, Torch of Defiance and Rise from the Tides. He got me one game by killing all my key Creatures, and running me out of so I couldn't protect my Bristling Hydra. The other two games I was able to play more Creatures than he had removal spells.

2-0 Control

This deck had lots of removal with a Won Con of using big Creatures with Trample.

I kept getting my Creatures outside the range of Essence Extraction and Grasp of Darkness.

MVPs were Bristling Hydra, which turned out to be my major Win Con, and Nature's Way, which got rid of pesky fliers and large Creatures, especially when used on a pumped up Bristling Hydra. I was also able to use it to get lethal Trample damage through in one game.

I sided in Archangel Avacyn  Flip almost every game, and it did its job by protecting Creatures, particularly one game where I was able to beat my Opponent down with Fairgrounds Trumpeter.

Sage of Shaila's Claim did a magnificent job of bringing in three , then sticking around to be a chump blocker.
