Sideboard

Maybeboard

This is a fusion of R/G monsters and R/G devotion to take advantage of all resources both playstyles and types have to offer and create one strong deck. The main reason I play the midrange/devotion strategy over the aggro strategy is because it gives us access to Garruk, Caller of Beasts, which significantly improves many matchups that are a bit more challenging for R/G Monsters, like Esper Control and Mono Black.

I have been playing this deck since November. It can still play the aggro strategy, but it has access to more resources being a devotion and midrange deck. It can generate large amounts of mana between Xenagos, the Reveler , Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and mana dorks, and uses that mana to activate monstrous or overflow the board with creatures that have been loaded into your hand by Garruk, Caller of Beasts or Domri Rade.

The deck also got first at the Born of the Gods Gameday, going 3-1 into Top 8, then 2-0.

The deck got first at FNM on 4/4, going 5-0. A breakdown of that night (and BNG gameday is coming soon.

A breakdown of all the cards is coming soon.

Overall, I'm happy with the way the deck plays. It is very formidable and enjoyable. It mulligans very well and has a variety of win cons. Let me know what you think! Coments, suggestions, feedback, and +1s welcome and appreciated!

Updates Add

In this update I made several changes to my sideboard. In the maybeboard, there are several cards that are possible sideboard cards depending on the meta. For now, here are the changes:

I took out all three Mistcutter Hydra. It could be good sometimes, against mono blue, or as a follow up to a board wipe, but more often than not I wanted it to be able to get past Elspeth, Sun's Champion which is a big problem card for this deck, and it would just get chump blocked for the rest of the game. It was just underwhelming most of the time. I added Skylasher to bring in against mono blue.

A big addition to the sideboard was 3x Glare of Heresy. As I said before, Elspeth, Sun's Champion is a big problem card for this deck, and Glare of Heresy is a great answer to it, and a number of other cards like Detention Sphere, Athreos, God of Passage, Obzedat, Ghost Council, and Banishing Light. I took out Fated Conflagration from the board.

Other cards that did not make the cut for the sideboard 15 were Nylea's Disciple (cut from the deck entirely) and Rest in Peace as nobody where I play plays Dredge right now. If that changes, I will include 2x RIP in the sideboard, but it's unlikely that the Disciples will ever end up back in the list. Also cut the two Ruric Thar, the Unbowed, as I have 13 noncreature spells maindeck, and even more out of the board against the decks Ruric Thar comes in against, so he was punishing me as well too often.

Other small additions to the sideboard was a singleton Pithing Needle for a number of cards like Planeswalkers and Pack Rats, Magma Spray for weenie or aggro decks (including Boros Burn for Chandra's Phoenix), especially one's that play Athreos, God of Passage, and Gruul Charm for mono blue or sometimes midrange.

Thanks for all the support with the deck thus far, and keep the comments and suggestions coming!
