8cardalchemy on Help me Build a Basic …

Hi All,
I want to build an Ikra Shidiqi, the Usurper // Tymna the Weaver life gain commander deck. It will be used for semi-casual play at a LGS, so good players with decent decks but not a lot of bonkers combos going off by turn 5.
I have never been amazing a cooking up commander decks that actually function, especially on a budget. Can anyone help me put together a basic/affordable decklist that I can expand on with more expensive cards later (let's say sub $200, preferably closer to $100, price is a little flexible)?
So far, I have the following cards that I know will work here:
Deathrite Shaman Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose Swords to Plowshares Dina, Soul Steeper Voice of the Blessed Kambal, Consul of Allocation Willowdusk, Essence Seer Vampire Nighthawk Drana and Linvala Rodolf Duskbringer Rampant Growth Farseek
I also own both commanders, so that's $30 I don't need to worry about.
Any help is appreciated.

Mono- or Esper lands strategies are very cool. Dakkon Blackblade comes to mind, and I personally love my Moraug, Fury of Akoum landfall voltron.
Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma is basically a mono- storm deck, which is lots of fun.
Golgari- or Gruul spellslinger is still something I kind of want to do. For Golgari, Willowdusk, Essence Seer seems a viable commander. For Gruul, there doesn't really seem to be one, yet.
A great card for unusual strategies is Guided Passage. You need to build your deck in a very specific way for it to work, but when it does, it's a blast to play. It's mostly a control deck in Temur colours.
Snake Opposition is another very cool strategy as a stall deck in traditional "Go big or go home" colours. You play Opposition and swarm the field using snakes + Sosuke's Summons to tap down your opponent.
Gilt-Leaf Archdruid is an insane druid lord, and another very cruel card if you can assemble the whole circle of druids.
Quick edit: There's also the sun of a lich deck, which is a control/ spellslinger deck in Mardu colours. It uses Lich's Mastery and Approach of the Second Sun to play a spellslinger/lifegain/combo strategy.

MagicMarc: Rakdos with lifegain lol I like the idea just bc it's unusual. Preypiecer would be interesting with lifelink creatures. Especially lifelinked creatures pumped by Unspeakable Symbol. Though I suppose Furnace of Rath would suffice with Mogis as the commander.
Been exploring other options too. Willowdusk, Essence Seer caught my eye. Could make it revolve around evasive lifelink creatures and Vito effects. Pay lots of life say to a Wall of Blood or Murderous Betrayal, Lurking Evil, Unspeakable Symbol, Phyrexian Processor ect. Gain it all back when you slap the +1/+1 counters on a lifelink critter and swing. Needs more of a setup with Willowdusk and the cards are all playable with just Vito (with his effect). Essence Harvest and Rite of Consumption would be hilarious includes. Add Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord for giggles. I even thought of running Jarad at the helm. With a lifegain suite and Wall of Blood, Jarad can one shot the table. Ntm there are so many ways to tutor for WoB in golgari. Unspeakable Symbol works great with him too. I'm sure there are more examples with Jarad but I have yet to look into it.
Thanks yet again! Though I may just brew that Rakdos deck as it's intriguing as is Jarad with a lifegain twist.

Golgari Spellslinger with Willowdusk, Essence Seer? Sounds fun. How about something creatureless with Targ Nar, Demon-Fang Gnoll?
Finally: Prosper, Tome-Bound instant tribal.

This should help some folks be more inclined to help you. I for one have no idea what the name of most of the decks are, it is just the commander(s) that I care about. What I would highly recommend is if you know your general preferred play style let us know and we can start pointing you in one direction or another.

I think one of the strongest cards in this type of deck is Bolas's Citadel because you can cast a bunch of spells from your deck paying life for them and then with Willowdusk, Essence Seer you want to put those tokens on a creature with lifelink and then attack your opponent. Even if they block you'll hopefully get the life back. Ramping into the Citadel shouldn't be too difficult early on.
Just my thoughts and it was the first card I thought of when I saw this commander.

There's a lot of good things going on with this deck already but there's some space for growth. you have a lot of life gain going on with out a whole lot to do with it to push you towards a win condition. First thing I'd do however is try to eek every last ounce out of Gyome I could. I want to preface this by saying I'm referencing a build I'm currently working on called Living your life that utilizes a similar idea to what you're working with here.
first thing I'd do is look at creature recursion. its inevitable that you're going to lose creatures via Sac or blocking. embrace it and take advantage of what Black and Golgari is really good at which is bringing things back from your grave yard. cards like Regrowth , Nature's Spiral , Forever Young , and Gravepurge are all 2 to 3 drop cards that will bring creatures or permanents back from your grave yard for around $.25 each. another great card for this would be In Search of Greatness which lets you put a permanent onto the board during your upkeep with a CMC equal to 1 plus the highest CMC of another permanent you have.
the second thing I'd be looking at is doing something with all this life gain. cards like Sanguine Bond Defiant Bloodlord cause opponents to lose life for the amount that you gained.
now here is where things can get kinda spendy. Exquisite Blood is a pricey card that is the lynch pin in many 2 card infinite life gain life drain combos. it is objectively expensive and would likely be your most expensive card in this deck but would highly recommend it down the road because with it and one of the two cards above sacrificing a single food token (which can be done at instant speed) will trigger this infinite combo giving you the game win. Like I said its pricey so maybe not a purchase for now but I'd look at it for down the road
other things that would be beneficial would be cards with life link like Moldering Karok and something that can spread counters around. I am particularly a fan of Willowdusk, Essence Seer for her ability to put counters on creatures in the amount of life gain. its easy to make creatures 20/20 really fast with her and cards like Ageless Entity which adds counters to itself for the amount of life you gained. those cards both came with the precon that Gyome was packaged with but if you are getting cards from your friend these can be had for under a dollar each.
Finally, just because I like having as many win cons in a deck as I can get, Glistener Elf is a fun card to have as it deals damage in the form of poison counters. pairing it with proliferate spells or doubling spells (which can be pricey so maybe a down the line purchase) can bring a game to an end very quickly. imagine gaining 10 life, having willowdusk and glistener elf on the board with your swift foot boots equipped, putting 10 counters on glistener elf and running her through with Rogue's Passage , another card that is in the witherbloom witchcraft pre con but will only run you .40 if you don't have it, for an instant win.
Lastly get some cards in there that mess with your opponents boardstate. Black is really good at creature destruction either directly or in the form of -x/-x counters and golgari is decent at targeted permanent destruction. It takes up space in your deck but I always recommend having 3-5 creature destruction cards in my black decks and 3-5 recursion cards otherwise magic just feels like playing solitaire until you can draw a win con.
Sorry that was a lot wordier than I thought it was gonna be so if you need clarifications let me know.

- Osgir, the Reconstructor and Alibou, Ancient Witness
- Zaffai, Thunder Conductor and Veyran, Voice of Duality
- Adrix and Nev, Twincasters and Esix, Fractal Bloom
- Breena, the Demagogue and Felisa, Fang of Silverquill
- Willowdusk, Essence Seer and Gyome, Master Chef
The default version of all these cards is not showing foil. Don't add the (C21) after the card in text that's showing the foil version as default.
Example:
For nonfoil use:
Osgir, the Reconstructor or [[Osgir, the Reconstructor]]
For foil use:
Osgir, the Reconstructor (C21) or [[Osgir, the Reconstructor (C21)]]
In the deck editor you can remove the (C21) and the * F* from the text at the end of each card to make it show nonfoil.
