Ambitious Farmhand

Creature — Human Peasant

When this enters the battlefield, you may search your library for a basic Plains card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle your library.

Coven: Transform this: Activate this ability only if you control three or more creatures with different powers.

MeatTornado on Angels

Hey, it's Dylan's friend, Justin. He asked me to weigh in on the list. So... Hello! The list looks very good, especially if it's your first time building a deck. Plus, Angels are always cool and fun.

If I was to offer any criticism, well, first even before I talk cards and strategy, I noticed the deck is labelled as being *Standard. It's not, but it is very close to being so. So you get to make a choice here. Do you want a deck that you could play against other people in a friendly, competitive environment or do you want just a fun deck to play casually that you wouldn't need to update? You are so close to the former, that I might just recommend that. But if you didn't want to do that, that's fine, too.

If you wanted a standard list you just need to replace the cards marked in red text. there are not many of them and some, I would recommend cutting altogether anyway. For instance, the one mana cards could go. Segovian Angel is an angel, but it's not very impactful and won't be worth the card if you draw it early or late. Soul Warden is an amazing card, but it only really excels when a lot of creatures are entering the battlefield (which your deck doesn't really support) or when cards are triggering by gaining any amount of life - Archangel of Thune is a great example of this, but your deck only has one. AND at that point, we might as well cut the non-standard cards. I would replace the Go for the Throat with Infernal Grasp and Vanishing Verse and I might go as far as playing 4 copies of each of those. I would play 4x Skyclave Cleric  Flip or Ambitious Farmhand  Flip (just to add some consistency with hitting land drops. Speaking of lands, definitely add some duals and maybe some utility lands. Emeria's Call  Flip Great Hall of Starnheim Brightclimb Pathway  Flip Scoured Barrens Shattered Sanctum Shineshadow Snarl Silverquill Campus Snowfield Sinkhole Are all in standard and you can choose how much $ you want to spend. I would settle on x8 dual lands and 0-2 utility lands from among those. I would also just play x4 Righteous Valkyrie, that to me looks like your best card and has the best synergy with the rest of the deck. The deck also looks soft to early aggressive decks... so I might consider adding in 1-2 Doomskar to help with that. Lastly, I might try to find room for a few of these cards, but they are more preference-based as I think they deck looks very playable already. I would try to jam maybe a few of these cards: Enduring Angel  Flip Starnheim Unleashed Haunting Voyage.

If you didn't want to worry about standard legality, I would find someway somehow to find room for some amount of Baneslayer Angel. Maybe a Linvala, the Preserver as a cool one-of and if you wanted to spend the $, Resplendent Angel seems like a perfect include as x1-x4 of.

Hope that was helpful! And... take what I say with a grain of salt, I'm not exactly what you would call an active Magic player.

Thanks for the suggestions IHATENAMES!

A couple i’m already running, and quite a few had their time in the deck and didn’t pull enough weight, or weren’t working towards a game ending combo. This deck is in fact combo based, i rarely, if ever swing for a win, and if i do it’s with infinite tokens so evasion and whatnot become meaningless.

Guardian of Faith is definitely going in, in this next revision. Teferi's Protection on a body?! Yes. Absolutely, yes. Shame it only hits creatures though… i usually want protection for my artifact/enchantment combo pieces.

Ambitious Farmhand  Flip is great. It’s cheap, and doesn’t have the “if an opponent controls more lands than you” clause, which i honestly hate. Hence why Knight of the White Orchid and Loyal Warhound were cut some time ago.

I am planning on adding another piece of recursion, but it’ll probably be Emeria Shepherd (list is a tad outdated and already has emeria in it, but it got cut at some point] since i’m also adding the whole suite of fetches to make Scroll Rack more useful.

For draw we got Search Party Captain, Spirited Companion AND Priest of Ancient Lore in the recent sets so we are looking goooood.

Here are some ideas

Angel of the Ruins might be good. Late game Removal with plains cycle

Ambitious Farmhand  Flip tutors a land

Armillary Sphere works well 4 mana draw 2 lands and you have recursion already in the deck. Helps keep a lot more hands off this one card doing work.

Alms Collector staxy card draw

Knight of the White Orchid ramp

Loyal Warhound ramp

Wandering Archaic  Flip More powerful effect than it looks

Expedition Map land tutor

Ondu Inversion  Flip boardwipe that's a land

Emeria, The Sky Ruin recursion late game

Enduring Renewal recursion

Warping Wail multi use preferably counterspell for sorcery

Sigil of the New Dawn recursion

Some sac outlets like Altar of Dementia or Fanatical Devotion or Martyr's Cause

Perhaps Eldrazi Monument orAkroma's Memorial for evasion

Guardian of Faith protection

Field of the Dead tokens

Odric, Lunarch Marshal so you commander has double strike. Your tokens have vigilance. Some rando dorks have flying. It can easily be evasion/threatening in this deck.

Beyond that good Ole elesh norn grand celobite it a powerhouse

This is just a few ideas ramp =card draw kinda so adding more ramp may fix the card draw issue you were talking about.

For ramp, have you considered any combination of Ambitious Farmhand  Flip, Environmental Sciences, Kor Cartographer and The Birth of Meletis if you need a way to to get lands onto the battlefield faster there's also Walking Atlas

Puresteel Paladin is also an option for you. Not only can you get some extra card draw, but once you have 3 artifacts on the battlefield, equipping Balan will be free. Though Maul of the Skyclaves can enter the battlefield equipped to a creature.

If you have cash to spare, don't forget Shadowspear.

Also, since you have a lot of artifacts, Have you considered Inspiring Statuary, Introduction to Annihilation and Scour from Existence as a means to protect yourself from the Karn, the Great Creator/Mycosynth Lattice Combo? If nothing else, Inspiring Statuary will at least help make your nonartifact spells cost less.

Other artifact lands to put in your deck are Ancient Den and Treasure Vault

Thank you for reading me out. I hope this helps. Happy Hunting!

Im trying to think of potential early game blockers for your curve.

Would Ambitious Farmhand  Flip be able to replace Environmental Sciences? You may have to incorporate more creatures if you wanna get his coven ability online, but he snags you a plains and a body to stall with while you try and find the Champion.
