This deck is a Temur-Colored () meant to utilize the powerhouse dragon, Ureni, the Song Unending.

This deck is a Temur-Colored () concept meant to capitalize on ramping into what I consider to be the most fun "creature-cheat" type concept I've ever aimed for! I welcome you all to gaze upon the newest nicknamed "dragonlord", Ureni, the Song Unending.

The name comes from my initial joke that this card could be a part of Neo-brand combo decks and nicknamed the dragon "Uren8" for it's mana cost. I quickly came to realize this dragon could fit into a lot of different shells and packages. I was quickly reminded about how many different forks this would potentially create by users like kamarupa and Balaam__.

Each different fork for this concept will likely have it's own update tab just to cohesively organize all the thoughts and different nuances of this build. I look forward to seeing the commentary for each variant.

  • This update tab is listed in the description to serve as the pen-ultimate update. It marks the point where any further development will have to actually push the combo forward, rather than adjacent.

  • Alright! So I promised awhile back that once I was able to commit some time and actually come back to this nonsense in a way where we go straight for face, that I would be announcing it to one of my favored users on this site, Balaam__. I think this nonsense is going to be just enough to raise a cackle out of them.

I didn't ask how big the room was...

  • The intention of my construction for this fork is meant to embody what I felt when I first viewed the spoiler for Ureni, the Song Unending. What I felt was unadulterated desire to push, sh@#$t, IN. Like, I wanted to have a deck encircling this guy.. and just committed to the bald-faced horror and glare of dominance I would imagine when playing the deck. Unwavering confidence in just ramping like a break-neck moron, forgiving all and punishing none.. until the big boy breaks the scene.

  • This iteration is going to be blindly committed to what I believe would be the most effective way to secure the presence of Ureni, the Song Unending. As such, there's going to be inevitable gaps in the match-ups, I just can't say with certainty what gaps will exist, or guarantee that I care about that missing link. Nothing personal, but I'm rose-glassed and a pompous ass about this dragon. Will there be coverage to ensure that my combo potential remains intact? Of course. Will I have an answer for every, single, matchup or deck meta archetype? No.

I didn't ask if the civilians had fled the scene..

  • A key component of my build is ignoring when a Lightning Bolt hits my Ignoble Hierarch, and rather than do anything about that.. I just eat the loss. It's fine to lose a dork in such a setting because unless I'm up against a burn-heavy list with something like Murktide or something.. It'll be fine! They traded 1 to 1 and it'll be back on me, with capability to draw some cards. So a turn 1 capable play that we're going to use is Arboreal Grazer, Ignoble Hierarch, or Noble Hierarch. Because having at LEAST one mana up on the next turn cycle will help allow us to bring Uren8 out that much faster.

  • Another follow up is going to be our capability to draw cards and set ourselves up for success. The largest benefit we have here is going to be using something like Encroaching Dragonstorm on the second turn following your land play for the turn (please see Arboreal Grazer and Flare of Cultivation combo on turn 1).

  • This fork will vary from the initial fork because I'm going to use Roiling Dragonstorm in order to push the number of cards I can draw reliably. The other key component here is that maybe I would consider Mox Jasper alongside Slumbering Dragon; however, the reason I won't is because of how flimsy and weak that type of synergy holds up throughout the whole construction of the deck. At that point, it would be roughly 20 cards committed to ramping on turn 1-2. At that measure, it's not only unreliable for number's sake, it's uncoordinated and a waste of deck space, and therefore resources.

  • Crow_Umbra once pointed out that my list did not reliably have enough access to black mana for the sake of casting a Dragonlord Kolaghan on hard-cast; they did make that point, but the initial construction of this fork led me to make a comment, as I had promised to do so. The comment is this:

If you're trying to cast something in Gruul colors, maybe keep either Hierarch. And at that logic, following behind it is rather easy because it's a splash color at most. For Dragonlord Kolaghan I of course would rather adjust my list to x4 copies of Ignoble Hierarch, much how if I was using (for some reason) Dragonlord Dromoka maybe for the sake of preventing my opponents from targeting me.. it would serve me better to have Noble Hierarch take the full set. But this is the rub, for me as a duelist. I'm not SB'ing the other 2 copies of either Hierarch because that's space where my removal can live. Does my deck still function? I mean yeah, albeit the point you made was about consistency, and at that it becomes whether or not my playstyle provides me with that perceived consistency. In my testing, it was seemingly okay. The removal of Kolaghan was more about the lack of need and importance of x1 copies of particular dragons, etc.

  • All in all, the construction of this deck is an unforgiving, upfront nightmare that you either have a gameplan for, or it washes right over you. That is to say, decks that are unrefined and without true purpose will fall prey to how efficiently this build works. Cheers!

---> (I later discovered this was a mistake and replaced our basic lands back into 3 of the Forest, and then 2 of each other basic land type within the shell.)

  • I also kept typical Amulet Titan shell staples Gruul Turf and Simic Growth Chamber as a means to really take advantage of the doubling mana sources. Cultivator Colossus is our overwhelming victory swing, but the beast in the sky was our original hero.
