Yep, I'd definitely slide ABUR dual lands into all of my multicoloured decks if I owned them.

They are similar to the rest of your budget so maybe you could buy them.

For sure.

Love the deck +1

How about a slightly cheaper land as well: Scattered Groves

Maybe Natural Order to sac a token and tutor Craterhoof Behemoth or something.

Maybe a Vitu-Ghazi, the City-Tree for grindy matchups or just plain utility? or Kjeldoran Outpost as a better token-generator.

Those are all decent lands and up for consideration, cheers. I have Natural Order in here already, great card!

Throne of the God-Pharaoh and Altar of the Brood are some of my most recent additions to my Rhys deck and I love both of them! I also like Altar of Dementia for when your board state is huge and they board wipe. Why not get something out of a board wipe, right? Either way I really like your deck +1 from me

Hey, trying to build a Rhys deck of my own, what are the cards that you would consider mandatory or are just way too good to pass up? Money isn't that big of a issue except I'm not buying Savannah/ Gaea's Cradle etc.

Great suggestions Splitcell, cheers. I have a Krenko goblin swarm deck and run both Throne of the God-Pharaoh & Altar of the Brood in there to great effect. They're just the right side of innocuous in that no one really wants to waste a removal spell on them, but they can both easily spiral out of control if opponents aren't paying attention. The problem I have with this deck is that I've been tuning it for years and cuts/swaps are becoming increasingly agonizing. I can't really see anything in here that I'd be willing to take out in favour of those cards /shrug

Hi AjaniShaman! That's a very subjective question, but I guess there are a few cards in here that I would consider core to any Rhys deck. The 4 token doubling enchantments are musts IMO (Anointed Procession, Doubling Season, Parallel Lives & Primal Vigor), cards that provide benefit from having an excess of token creatures (I would say that that Aura Shards, Glare of Subdual, Cryptolith Rite, Beastmaster Ascension, Cathars' Crusade, Eldrazi Monument, Chord of Calling & Natural Order fall under this category) & some general mass creature swarm win conditions (Craterhoof Behemoth, Overwhelming Stampede, Triumph of the Hordes et al).

The rest of the deck is just there to assist with that general game plan - draw, protection, ramp, removal, token friendly creatures, tutors...the usual Rhys stuff. Hopefully that helps kick start your own brew, enjoy!

As far as cards that I would take out for the ones I suggested above, I personally would be looking at Hornet Queen (A little to high CMC for only 3 tokens) I ran it in mine for a while until I took it out for a lower cmc spell. I never thought to add a champion of Champion of Lambholt that seems like it would go ballistic in Rhys. I will definitely be picking one up for my own deck.

I hear that regarding Hornet Queen's casting cost, it's steep. That said, netting a mighty swarm of flying deathtouchers via Rhys' doubling ability or the various other token doubling effects is very appealing. Throw Cathars' Crusade or Beastmaster Ascension into the mix it's suddenly a very serious threat. Win-more? Yes. Satisfying when it goes off? Hell yes.

I am all for that. I LOVE winning with squirrel sworn. Especially when you have an army of 20/20 flying indestructible squirrels.

Sad that Natural Order and Strip Mine are banned in duel format

November 25, 2018 6:40 p.m.

Forkbeard says... #18

Hey GalvanicSage. Definitely a shame about Natural Order for Duel, but you could replace it with the decent albeit much slower Pattern of Rebirth - the benefit of Pattern is that you don't have the green creature restriction (bonus points for getting a reprint in Ultimate Masters with gorgeous new TN art). As for Strip Mine, you don't need it at all. Yes it's handy utility in a pinch or if you want to be that guy and land hose your opponent, but it's not an integral ingredient to the theme or strategy of this deck.

The true travesty in Duel would be the inability to run Gaea's Cradle & Strip Mine, now those 2 cards are core.

How about Nacatl War-Pride? Copying that guarantees your opponent can't block all of them the next combat.

Forkbeard says... #20

I've definitely considered Nacatl War-Pride before, the casting cost gives me pause however it might be worth it if I had a haste enabler out. Have you had much success with it in your token brew?

have you ever considered Huatli, Radiant Champion? I was considering to include her in my list. Really loved your deck, seems really consistent and powerful, if could let any suggestions into my list i would be grateful deck: https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/rhys-fichero/?cb=1545357675

Thanks very much HelbertWesker, appreciate the suggestion + kind words. Huatli, Radiant Champion would make an interesting addition for sure, especially if I can slap that emblem down early. I'll think that one over and consider adding in future, cheers.

Off to check out your deck now!

I really love the deck. I’m just curious here, but no Heroic Intervention or Teferi's Protection?

January 8, 2019 1:49 p.m.

Forkbeard says... #24

Thanks poolshark9828! I actually really like both of those cards and think they'd make great additions to the deck, I'm just not certain what I'd swap out to make room for them. I've tuned the deck to be the aggressor - even the cards listed under 'protection' can be somewhat oppressive. That said, wipe spells are the true enemy of this deck so I'd like to find some room for them if I can. I particularly like that tokens don't fizzle to phasing effects re. Teferi's Protection.

I'm thinking about breaking down my Marath and turning it into a Rhys deck like this. Do you think it would be worth it to run Shamanic Revelation and other such effects?
