Athreos, God Of Passage - Shadowborn Apostles

Commander / EDH* Casual Demons Jank Multiplayer Theme/Gimmick WB (Orzhov)

MrCanard

This deck abuses both Shadowborn Aspostles (you can have however many you'd like in you deck), and the Athreos, God of Passage graveyard-to-hand effect to keep your opponents paying life on attack and defense. The Shadowborn Apostles should be regarded as resources to be spent, without fear of running out of them, since card draw and their built-in tutor effect keeps cards in your hand and creatures on the battlefield. An opening hand should have at minimum both colors of mana represented. Over-performers in this deck include: Thrumming Stone, Kuro, Pit Lord, Hecatomb, and Devout Chaplain. Once you've weathered the first few turns by dropping Shadowborns and Athreos, you're able to hardcast most of the demons you draw, and the Shadowborns become secondary interest to opponents -- it sneaks up on them. It's a fun play, if not always a winning deck. It's also relatively inexpensive to build -- the largest investment is the Shadowborn Apostles. Opponents seem wary of it when all they have is the knowledge that it contains lots of Shadowborn Apostles.
