Hearthcage Giant

Creature — Giant Warrior

When Hearthcage Giant enters the battlefield, put two 3/1 red Elemental Shaman creature tokens into play.

Sacrifice an Elemental: Target Giant creature gets +3/+1 until end of turn.

I would strongly reccommend decreasing creatures/elementals in favor of more dedicated ramp like Khalni Heart Expedition , Harrow , Kodama's Reach , Sakura-Tribe Elder and Myriad Landscape . In my experience if you can cast Omnath and then focus on triggering landfall you'll assemble a board state quickly. In terms of card draw Elemental Bond , Life's Legacy and Greater Good are incredible with those 5/5 elementals. Because Omnath is such an expensive general playing Swiftfoot Boots would probably help.

I would recommend replacing high cmc creatures like Bloodpyre Elemental , Silverglade Elemental , and Hearthcage Giant to speed up the deck. I'd also look at replacing cards like Pilgrim's Eye , Crater Elemental , Fire Shrine Keeper , Cinder Elemental , and Catalyst Elemental as they don't really have payoff without lots of mana or omnath, in which case ramping into a 5/5 seems better

Hey :)

So something to immediately note, RW decks do not have a great amount of card draw or mana ramp. So Some of the cut recommendations will be focusing on making our individual card quality quite high, and making sure that our curve is reasonable due to lack of ability to rapidly start dropping high mana creatures quickly.

The recommendations will also be focusing towards the strengths of what our commander gives us. Namely, noncombat based win condition, and reliable lifegain. Meaning we don't have to rely on turning our guys sideways to win, and we can pack our deck with effects that let us draw cards on life gain and similar effects.

Also, I'm sure you are already aware from typing up the decklist, but there are a lot of draft level creatures and other cards in this deck. So there will be a lot of cut recommendations for this one.

Recommended Cuts

Creatures

Bull Cerodon - Its a generic 5/5 for 6. Its not great here.

Fire-Belly Changeling - While it is a giant for our tribal effects, we could do with something with more impact for our two drops.

Firemane Angel - This card is just SO SLOW and SO expensive to get anything going. And the body that all this work gets you is so mediocre that i just don't think this is worth it.

Hearthcage Giant - Second most expensive mana cost card in the deck, and not nearly as powerful as what we want any 8 drops that we play to be.

Hillcomber Giant - 4 mana 3/3 with little upside. We can play better.

Ivory Giant - Suspended on turn 1 this will come down on turn 6. Hard cast it will come down on turn 7. The effect that we get from doing so is not necessarily game changing so we can probably find something thats better for this slot.

Kuldotha Ringleader - Another draft level creature that unfortunately doesn't make the cut in commander.

Lairwatch Giant - Again. too much mana for what it does.

Shatterskull Giant - 4 mana 4/3 with nothing else. Not really good enough

Maybe Creatures

Artisan of Kozilek - This effect is good. But its a lot of mana in a colour pair not known for great ramp. So this is one we will need to re-evaluate once we look at how good our mana is.

Cloudgoat Ranger - While it makes a decent amount of bodies for the cost, its not greatly efficient towards what we are trying to do.

Wandering Graybeard - Ok stats but rather low impact for a 5 drop in commander. Doesn't immediately need replacing but on the short list further down the line.

There's also the flagbearers: Coalition Flag Coalition Honor Guard Standard Bearer But they don't really have synergy with each other. You might be able to pull some shenanigans if you give a flagbearer hexproof or protection with a changeling out though.

Thelon of Havenwood, Fungal Bloom, Sporesower Thallid, Savage Thallid and Pallid Mycoderm are all listed as saprolings. I don't know if you merged fungus and saproling intentionally, but if you did it might make sense to change saproling tech to saproling/fungus tech.

GeminiSpartanX, I took a look at your Omnath build and to answer your question regarding sac outlets. Maybe consider the following: Greater Good, Altar of Dementia, Phyrexian Altar, Hearthcage Giant or even Seething Pathblazer as options.

Good luck fam!

Thanks Molesto-the-Egregious! This was adapted from my Titania kill-lands-get-tokens deck but plays just a bit different with the access to red. Playing this deck has ranged from super-fun aggro to downright oppressive if you get an Amulet of Vigor, Lotus Cobra or Burgeoning down early.

Vigor seems pretty good here, so I'll consider it for sure. Hearthcage Giant is a neat trick, but so expensive to cast.

Thanks again, and I hope you have a blast brewing your build like I did with mine!

I love this build!

I am looking to take Omnath, Locus of Rage out of my Surrak Dragonclaw deck, and build one of his own.

Vigor may be a fun addition to this build. I was thinking MAYBE Hostility as well, but there isn't as much direct damage. Hearthcage Giant for an elemental sacrifice outlet?

Happy brewing!! :D
