Songs of the Damned BGr (2024)

Blood Pet pays for itself, puts itself into the grave, and is an additional mana if sacrificing it on a later turn. Not sure how much the deck needs it, but sac for black then casting Songs of the Damned seems pretty good for Crypt Rats, Consume Spirit, or playing out a cycling creature as a beater as early as possible. Not really sure what to cut if anything is the issue. Deadshot Minotaur doesn't seem great to me because you'll hardly play it as a creature or benefit from its etb? Not sure how consistent getting off its cycle is without playtesting myself so it could be good, but based on just looking at the deck it feels like the least consistent of the 1 mana cyclers you have. It could be a good contender for adding in spore frogs, discard, or other utility main board

Three mana to bring a guy back is a little hefty, but if you're really looking for options you can run guys with Cycling (or Landcycling) to redirect your card advantage into something else. Deadshot Minotaur is a soft piece of removal and is easy to cycle at one hybrid mana. Undead Gladiator improves your card filtering by letting you trade other cards for him while you're at it. (Anger, anyone?) Igneous Pouncer and Valley Rannet let you grab shocklands or other nonbasics like Dryad Arbor or Witch's Cottage. Some critters tack an extra ability onto their being cycled, such as Jund Sojourners, Sanctuary Smasher and Void Beckoner - giving you a mana-intensive but reliable option each turn if you have nothing else to bring back.
Perhaps the best example is Krosan Tusker, who grabs you another card and a land when you cycle him, putting you up another card each time. Shefet Monitor requires even more mana but puts the land right into play untapped, giving you a reliable way to ramp and draw cards during a standstill.

Don't Discard the Minotaurs!!

Hey this is great! I have a very similar deck and really love it. Grisly Survivor is seriously underrated I think and often gets overlooked in the first game. Spinehorn Minotaur and Grisly Survivor are both really good targets for Unearth and can get out early if you loot on the first turn.
I would definitely think about adding Unearth to use that added synergy to your deck and Fists of Flame enabled very scary plays with Spinehorn Minotaur . If I were you I would go for a full playset of the spinehorn so you can have two real threats in the 3 slot. 4x Faithless Looting is also the way to go. It costs 1 and can be used from the graveyard so it just activates your big threats more regularly than Thrill of Possibility or Cathartic Reunion .
I splash green for Deadshot Minotaur as well because cycle + removal + minotaur = Love
I really like this deck and am glad to see someone else noticed the good synergies. Keep up the good work with Winotaurs!

First off, thank you for your feedback!
I agree that Stormbreath Dragon's ability is not relevant, but I've had a lot of sucess with it as well as Chameleon Colossus. This is due to Path to Exile and Fatal Push being the most prevalent removal spells in the current meta (apart from Lightning Bolt). Even in the matchups where I don't want to see them they're still decent enough in my opinion. Since you stated that there are many better options I'd be happy to try out something else you can recommend.
I'm most likely going to get rid of Inferno Titan at some point.
Running less one-ofs would help with consistency, although I'm not entirely sure which creature I'm supposed to run multiples of.
Stormbreath Dragon and Chameleon Colossus are there for specific matchups and shouldn't be multiples.
Deadshot Minotaur is going to get cycled 95% of the time, but he's only good when missing a creature in the graveyard.
Ishkanah, Grafwidow is legendary and also too expensive to run multiples.
Eternal Witness and Scavenging Ooze die to our own boardwipes so I only want them when I really need them.
Which leaves me with Courser of Kruphix who I could maybe run 2 of (although you don't want both at the same time).

Ingot Chewer doesn't evoke at instant speed, and it doesn't hit Rest in Peace. The body is substandard and, as you guys mentioned... it's a definite nonbo with Architects of Will.
Blue offers me kill speed, with only Jund as an option I'm forced to use more creatures like Deadshot Minotaur which are just pathetic. Curator of Mysteries is highly evasive and the combo with Horror of the Broken Lands is unbelievably powerful. Striped Riverwinder is just a beast at 5/5 and having hexproof to boot is incredible.
Archfiend of Ifnir was originally in Monstrous Carabid's spot but got replaced due to speed. Cycle is hard on this deck because its goal is to go off faster with more power in the graveyard than Jund LE. I sacrificed resiliency for speed in Game 1 and in game 2 we have different options than most people expect so I can clear out their hate easier. Wear / Tear being able to hit Rest in Peace and Blood Moon is huge.
Architects of Will stays in instead of Monstrous Carabid 3-4 because of the effect. It's easy to cycle and burying a card they need to stop you is crucial.
Realistically, I can't afford another Fulminator Mage before the Open, but the Nimble Obstructionist is the most flex spot in the sideboard so I'm not opposed to having a 3rd Fulm

you should include Clever Impersonator and/or Copy Artifact because getting 2 astral slides in play is when things get really good
I would also want to make room for one more worse-eternal-witness effects like Tilling Treefolk, Archaeomancer or Auramancer that can return a cycling card to your hand. Auramancer is nice because it can recur slide.
Also Sun Titan can recur so many of the important pieces
I would cut invigorating boon and probably also lightning rift. Also I would focus more on cards that cycle for just 1 mana or 2 colorless, rather than cards that are harder to cycle but give marginal upside like death pulse, slice and dice or the Decrees.
Alara reborn has some cards that cycle for 1 hybrid mana: Sigil of the Nayan Gods, Glassdust Hulk, Architects of Will, Monstrous Carabid, Deadshot Minotaur
