Best 7+ mana bomb to drop?

Modern forum

I've built a mono-green ramp deck that can be incredibly fast (T3 Genesis Wave for 8 once) but as I'm just getting into modern I'm not sure the best bomb to drop then. I have a couple Colossus of Akros in there now but I can't imagine that being near Tier 1. Eldrazi? Ugin? Atarka? I've even tested Mistcutter Hydra. What's the best "you're gonna scoop now" card?

Please lend your wisdom.

Primeval Titan could be good.

Edit: and Karn Liberated.

Entwine Tooth and Nail, grabbing Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and something to grant him haste?

@meecht you are looking for Xenagos, God of Revels. Means you get to kill them on the same turn too

Emrakul + Xenagod. Swing for 30.

I've found Genesis Wave to work best with a decent fistfull of creatures, and 1-2 Craterhoof Behemoth. The guy's a bomb, and just casting him from hand can be devestating.

My budget isn't unlimited but I"m willing to put in $100 over the next few months. What makes the Primeval Titan so good, I mean it does stuff but is it a game ender? The Titan or the Wurmcoil Engine would be pretty easy to drop. Karn as well. But something like It That Betrays or Kozilek, Butcher of Truth? Like I said I'm pretty new to modern so what makes these things the best bombs?

Tooth and Nail and those 2 creatures seem real good too.

For huge huge bombs, any of the big three Eldrazi will do (I prefer Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre in a ramp deck). On 7, your best bomb will be Karn Liberated and, if you can somehow get the mana for it, Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite is always fantastic; similarly, if you're running many mana dork creatures and early game dudes, Regal Force is crazy good. For 6, Primeval Titan and Wurmcoil Engine (and I'd even argue Garruk, Caller of Beasts maybe) is about as good as it gets. If you're going the mana dork route as described in the regal force scenario, Soul of the Harvest is a permanent Glimpse of Nature effect that snowballs really well. Going down the curve, Thragtusk and Batterskull are great at 5.

Notice how all these cards immediately either A. Affect the board state immediately and impactfully, demanding an answer, or B. Have large bodies with some sort of life-gain attached, helping you stabilize against quicker decks. This is generally what you should look for in a "bomb" for a ramp deck.

Emrakul, the Aeons Torn is the biggest badassiest creature in modern. Altho, 15 is pretty hard to cast with Genesis Wave.

I like Tooth and Nail into Blightsteel Colossus + Taunting Elf (Golgari Decoy for modern i guess) in my Ezuri EDH deck. Or, Tooth and Nail into Avenger of Zendikar + Regal Force to draw a shitload of cards.

If you are running green devotion then Khalni Hydra is pretty good. And Platinum Angel and Platinum Emperion are always nice..

The thing with prime time is that he has guaranteed value if he resolves and can go fetch you awesome utility lands. Something like It that betrays is just another fatty that dies to removal. Once you go past 6 power and toughness, you're usually the biggest thing in the format anyways. Trample's also really good on something as big as prime time.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about Craterhoof Behemoth. He's one of the best fatties in the game for a ramp deck. Run him with Chord of Calling to end a game very efficiently.

Primeval titan is the best because he does something even if he's instantly killed and he also has trample. For 7 mana wurmcoil engine and karn liberated are great because they don't die to removal.

Ramping up to huge eldrazi is stupid because it takes longer (you really need them down by t3 or t4) and a lot of them don't have trample or don't have an etb or don't dodge removal spells.

Craterhoof Behemoth could be the answer as I do have Arbor Elf and other small dorks in play. Titan is something I'll have to check out. And the eldrazi don't have etb but they do usually have an affect if they are cast directly. But it looks like I'll be looking at the Titan and Behemoth mainly, but I'll also check out Wurmcoil and Karn.

Thanks guys! If you have any more thoughts, throw em out here!

Man I love this site.

I would suggest splashing red and playing primeval titan to fetch Inkmoth Nexus + Kessig Wolf Run

Eldrazi Conscription is overlooked, but can be really powerful. Ugin, the Spirit Dragon is good too.

September 4, 2015 5:24 p.m.

i think eldrazi consscription is just too risky in a meta of Terminates, Lightning Bolts and Kolaghan's Commands especially if you plan on putting it on creatures like Arbor Elf

In all seriousness, Tooth and Nail or Craterhoof Behemoth are the best win the game on the spot, but you don't actually NEED those. Just cast Genesis Wave for alot, hit Eternal Witness and do it again. Or combine Eternal Witness with Primal Command and thats eight mana a turn to lock the opponent out.

I would argue that Eldrazi Conscription is excellent at locking the opponent out if you take them by surprise. The only issue would be Terminate, as none of the others would hit the Craterhoof or other large creature you wish to enchant. I wouldn't put it in as more than a two-of, though.

Ugin T4 is brutal. If it resolves, other than Dreadbore, is there a staple which kills it T4?

Maelstrom Pulse does the trick against Ugin, the Spirit Dragon. But yes, a T4 Ugin generally means you're gonna win.

For a Genesis Wave-centric deck, my vote for a finisher goes to Primeval Titan. You can fetch all sorts of nice utility lands when it comes in, probably give it haste (Slayers' Stronghold, anyone?), and then hammer your opponent. Essentially, make your deck an alternate take on Amulet Bloom.
