Hi all I'm trying to brew up a budget Wolf/Werewolf deck to try and get my Girlfriend into magic... I didn't play when the werewolves came out so any and all help is appreciated!!

What colors are you looking to make it? R/G is probably the best, but I'm sure you could splash other colors as well.

if you go mono green, I suggest Howl of the Night Pack.

Immerwolf is a must have and Lone Wolf can be a lot of fun if you buff it.

What set is Immerwolf from? Also are there any good werewolves?

Here's mine: Howls in the Night

I know that the AEther Vials are a bit expensive but when you cheat in a werewolf it doesn't count as casting a spell so it flips at next upkeep!

Havok Bane thanks for the link. That deck seems a bit confusing for a beginner (though I like it) I'm thinking I want primary wolves and wolf tokens with a couple of werewolves as the "Alphas"

Immerwolf is from Dark Ascension. The idea of a Werewolf deck is that they want to drop a werewolf on turn 1 or 2, hope that the opposite side doesn't cast a spell, then beat face. That's the ideal plan. Immerwolf is good because it prevents Werewolves from transforming if they are not Humans. so a Human Werewolf can flip, and Immerwolf prevents them from transforming back.

Good werewolves and werewolf support include Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip, Mayor of Avabruck  Flip, Daybreak Ranger  Flip, Instigator Gang  Flip, Wolfbitten Captive  Flip, Reckless Waif  Flip, and Full Moon's Rise.

Alright, I could totally hit you up with some cool suggestions.

But first, are you sure she wants a wolf/werewolf deck?

Also, Moonmist is a must.

I did the same thing for my girlfriend here's the list for some card ideas, Werewolves (It works for $15 budget.) I'd love to see the finished product, happy building!

July 14, 2015 9:11 p.m.

cough

So are you absolutely sure she wants werewolves?

Darkmagi1131 says... #15

I think she wants more wolves with a smattering on werewolves... the end product is a suprise

July 14, 2015 9:28 p.m.

Alright, I just wanted to make sure she wasn't getting something she didn't want. Because that could end badly... For you. XD

No but seriously, if you want more wolf based cards than werewolf, here is a full list of all the wolf creature cards.

Pretty sure making a deck as a present for someone is an A+ move even if its a theme they aren't expecting. I know my GF didn't expect a Rogue Control deck for her birthday last month but it's her favourite goto these days.

On topic: these are some awesome wolf recommendations! All I can really add is Somberwald Alpha as that was a great game-winning card for me last weekend at pre release and it could give some non-werewolf options.

Alright guys thanks for all your help so far here's my first draft Wolves Wolves Everywhere!! I need 6 more cards and possible replacements for the huntmasters... I didn't realise that they were 15 apiece when I built the deck....

Decided on 4x Might of Oaks and 2x Become Immense as the 6 extra cards!

Become Immense? Yes, since you can cast it on the cheap depending on how much stuff you chuck in the bin. Might of Oaks, however? I think it's a bit underwheleming considering it costs of four mana.

Rot Wolf is also....underwheleming in a deck like this. You can sneak in kills with it but since it has Infect, it's damage doesn't really count when compared to the rest of your critters. You either go for 20 regular damage or 10 Infect.

Timberpack Wolf is also pretty bad.

Honestly I think going Werewolf is the better option, especially since you can create a two-card, one sided combo in the form of Full Moon's Rise and any Pyroclasm by sacing the FMR to regen all your Werewolves in responce to a sweep.

In any case I would highly suggest the Mayor of Avabruck  Flip since each side is relevant no matter what version of the deck he is. With Werewolves, he buffs the puny humans before they transform, but when he transforms into Howlpack Alpha  Flip he buffs Werewolves (which include Werewolves in their human since they are always going to be werewolves no matter what side is face-up) and in general werewolves tend to transform as a group. In a wolves deck, he only works when he is the Alpha not the Mayor, so he's not as bombastic.

Wolves are amazing! This deck is mono green so it's easy to play and easy on the wallet. Lots of fun cards that are little play, for example Master of the Wild Hunt. I've taken down fnm with this deck and had people ask to play against it, so it's fun for everyone.

I love making tribal decks. I can honestly say that I have spent an incredible amount of time researching wolves (Wolves and Werewolves are my favorite tribes)and have come to a few conclusions along the way. Firstly, to me they(Wolves and werewolves) are both individual tribes and therefore I made a deck for each but for this comment I will concentrate on Wolves.

I think there are about 3 ways to make a viable wolf deck.

One is to use elves & Shamans such as Master of the Wild Hunt Tolsimir Wolfblood and Wren's Run Packmaster probably even Wolfbriar Elemental Plus some simple little ramp elves maybe supported by some Caravan Vigil Coat of Arms mono green token staple Howl of the Nightpack etc.

The second way would basically revolve around summoning Tree of Redemption to feed Feed the Pack and summoning Hellrider to swing for the kill. The support cards are similar maybe add a Dolmen Gate in there to protect those wolves for a second finishing blow?

The 3rd way is my favorite because it consists of playing purely with wolf creatures supported with enchantments. It is a green white build and is fun powerful and straightforward.

Turn 1:Young Wolf and Tundra Wolves

Turn 2:Wandering Wolf and Watchwolf

Turn 3:Witchstalker and Sacred Wolf

Support:

Ethereal Armor,Hyena Umbra, Rancor, Spirit Mantle, Unflinching Courage.

The strategy is simple and straightforward for a new player to understand. Best of all, you can build this deck for about 25 bucks if you shop around. Here is my deck list:

25 Dollar Wolf Tribal

Good luck with it man.
