Retired —May 1, 2017

This deck is now retired and dismantled since I need the cards for another deck project.

Nath has been a pet deck of mine for several years now, and is in my mind the perfect 75% deck: A lot of fun to play at casual tables, and still explosive and surprising enough to steal a win out of nowhere at spikey tables too. It is very easy to pilot for newcomers to the Commander format. It has a lot of useful utility, draw and removal. When you get to know the deck better you always know the best tutor-targets for Elvish Harbinger, Skyshroud Poacher and Wirewood Herald - and you can also search for removal (Eyeblight's Ending) or winconditions (Elvish Promenade).

Notable winconditions are:
Hate with Nath of the Gilt-Leaf + Sadistic Hypnotist or Death Cloud
Beatdown with Champion of Lambholt, Elvish Champion or Vitalizing Wind.

Suggestions to improve the deck further:
- Prototype Portal as an additional punishing wincondition. Coinman did a great writeup on Nath Stax here
- Gilt-Leaf Archdruid as an additional punishing wincondition.
- Yisan, the Wanderer Bard tutor package. Yisan is a well established competitive EDH-general, and slotting in infinite combos with Temur Sabertooth and Umbral Mantle, utility like Quirion Ranger, Scryb Ranger and Wirewood Symbiote, etc, should be a breeze - and probably a lot of fun to play.
- Skullclamp. My only copy has a permanent spot in my Roon deck, [75%] Blink blink, nudge nudge, but would've been the perfect draw-engine for this deck.

So long, and thanks for all the fun times.

Quest for Renewal is a lot of fun in decks with lots of tap effects. Crazy with Wellwisher. I also wonder about getting your creatures back from the graveyard - maybe something like Deadbridge Chant or Palace Siege or Soul of Innistrad. Or Llanowar Dead for more mana. 'Cuz... zombie elves!!!

Have you considered Mindslicer for mass discard, and Library of Leng to control the occasional discard of your own cards?

Eternal Witness for some recursion and Champion of Stray Souls to sac those easy made tokens to get back all the other important creatures.

Skullclamp to quickly refill your hand using your commander's 1/1's. And with the amount of tokens you can make, Symbiotic Deployment could be worthwhile for heavy card draw.

libraryjoy: Good catch with Quest for Renewal, I hadn't considered that. It's also great with Nullmage Shepherd, Skyshroud Poacher and Yisan, the Wanderer Bard if I choose to include him. It also it gives me more mana to cast removal on other players' turns.

Raging_Squiggle: Mindslicer could be really good, but I'm not currently buying new cards. Lack of reanimation is rarely a problem. Any recommendations from the cards in my description?

Quest for Renewal would be really good like other people have said but Taunting Elf can be a auto win card if you have your bored set up.

Jason is right Shaman of the Pack would be stron as wel

yes i know you said your not not buying cards but if you do later on you should look at Joraga Warcaller, Immaculate Magistrate and Wirewood Lodge
