I'm told Phelddagrif is a great group hug/pillow fort commander, other than that I love this list so much.

Laughed at the Tier 5 description.

I disagree with Omnath, Locus of Mana being Tier 3. With green's mana ramp and fatties Omnath is the perfect commander to make giant plays. A friend of mine runs it and can win on turn 4 or 5 pretty consistently if we don't meddle in his affairs.

Rakdos the Defiler should be at least tier four. I know he's not great, but he can do reasonably well when built around. If you give him double strike, his ability triggers twice. He also works well with death effects, stuff like Grave Pact, or even better, It That Betrays. And with 7 power, he can win with general damage. He is even better in single player, as you are not putting yourself at as much of a disadvantage by swinging with him. He doesn't deserve to be on the same tier as Jedit Ojanen.

I guess Kruphix, God of Horizons could be tier two. Green and blue are the best colors in commander, and Kruphix does what you want to do in a G/U deck, ramps mana and keeps cards in your hand. Broken with Prophet of Kruphix effects.

I like lists like this, very useful for giving players an idea of what legends make a relevant commander. One thing worth mentioning is that your tier 1 selections of Braids, Cabal Minion, Emrakul, the Aeons Torn, Erayo, Soratami Ascendant, Griselbrand and Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary are all a little TOO good...all of those cards are banned in the Commander/EDH format as either commanders or cards in deck. Just FYI.

[carlthekatt] The EDH rules committee is incredibly hesitant to ban generals, all the tier one generals are generals which either should be banned or are banned. Several of the generals are banned in other EDH formats such as duel commander.

I've taken some of the comments here and from my play group and have made edits accordingly

Why do you have Kaalia of the Vast as tier 3? I run a EDH deck off of her and it work really well you have to permanently kill Kaalia to win and even then you still can die. I was just wondering your reasoning behind her in the 3rd tier. I also have fought against a Nahiri, the Lithomancer EDH deck that is just about impossible to win against he plays it in a EDH league and it wins almost ever time.

I agree with the Kaalia change, but for Nahiri while she is very consistent and easily the best mono-white aggro general, she isn't broken or unfair. Tier 1 generals are all arguably bannable and the white walker just isn't quite there

Patron of the Moon I think should be three because of the concept of mono-blue mana ramp is something that can be built around and is very usable. Yomiji, Who Bars the Way looks bad on paper, but is a lot of fun to play, and has some really amusing interactions. Maybe 3 in my opinion, but 4 can be acceptable. It is not 5 at all though.

I would like to comment on sidisi and scion, I know this list is old but It comes up in search, as for sidisi I personally play her and have seen her in action I'm the French tournaments I think she EASILY deserves t3 possible 2 she's one of the best build around generals out there I have a turn 3 with her and the meta for French speaks for her, as for scion well I don't see him as a tier one I see him more as a t2 or t3 with my own sidisi I've never lost to a scion deck and I've faced many. Keep him off and he's useless which is easy.

Keeping Scion off the board could be said about most generals, but the reason scion is tier 1 is because he is a one-card-combo. The tier 1 scion is also a Hermit Druid deck. Hermit Druid is another one-card-combo, and scion can most effectively utilize Hermit Druid, and have back-up wincons with himself. Most people dont build this Scion deck, but the potential is out there, and probably would be seen at a competitive EDH tournament. I don't know offhand any lists for this type of deck, but 'Who shall I be when I devour your soul?' is probably the premierScion deck that uses the combo part without Hermit Druid.

I feel as if I must agree but disagree I don't believe that should put scion at the top for some reasons which may be argued or not but I don't see the need for scion with hermit druid, hermit druid in himself can win a game I use him in sidisi and can win off the bat, no scion necessary, in my experience with top tier players I've seen scion as an easy deck to face because the better decks are the ones that happen to have their general influence their decks and can allow for broken plays rather than be the main win, I see you said there's other outs but that doesn't make scion top tier, scion can one shot with conspiracy and the card that if deals damage to a player they lose, but that's also hefty to perform, in general the generals I've seen to be top tier are ones that make their entire deck perform ridiculously, but I don't see that much with scion I put together a scion myself actually. Not saying it's bad but don't think it's tier 1 if your saying it's tier 1 due to the potential ohko than many others should also be tier 1

Wydwen, the Biting Gale is descent in duels. Total control and then kills via commander damage.

Just thought I'd let you know, Brago, King Eternal is a tier 1 commander for sure. Just in case you don't believe me, follow this link, and test out the provided deck list. https://www.facebook.com/TopCommanders/photos/a.339060309516811.79093.304415172981325/679999415422897/?type=1

Not bad. There are definitely a few mistakes though. I'll just look at the top tier for now.

Jhoira of the Ghitu Is nowhere close to tier 1. By the time her spells start resolving, the game is already over. She consistently loses to the true top-tier generals (Zur, Narset, Animar, Mimeoplasm, Azami, etc.) The same is true for Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger, Vendilion Clique, Uril, the Miststalker, Prime Speaker Zegana, Iona, Shield of Emeria, Purphoros, God of the Forge, Sydri, Galvanic Genius and Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur. All of those are solid 2 and 3 tier general,s but none of them can hold their own in a fair fight against true tier 1 generals. Oloro, Ageless Ascetic is borderline. His control-heavy strategy tends to rely too much on alternate win conditions like Felidar Sovereign that are easily overcome by faster decks.

Animar, Soul of Elements is tier 1. Imperial Animar wins consistently by turn five with the potential to win on turn two unless stalled by extreme control.

Teferi, Temporal Archmage is also tier 1. He plays a heavy control deck with stax elements like Stasis to keep opponents locked down while his -1 keeps his field open.

Riku of Two Reflections also seems to have mistakenly been placed on the wrong tier. His threat spawning ability is absolutely terrifying and can completely overwhelm opponents in 5 turns.

And finally, Momir Vig, Simic Visionary rounds out the commanders that need to be bumped up. His ability allows for absurd tutor and draw effects that can easily allow his deck to combo out turn 4.

Hope these suggestions helped!

I don't quite see how these lists work. EDH is more or less determined by budget. I run Marchesa in a VERY competitive playgroup (turn 3-4 wins, generally, using Karador, Animar, Derevi etc) and I often prove to be the threat at the table while playing Marchesa, the Black Rose, which is listed as tier 3 on this table.

It's about deck building and budget. Generals are only really valuable when you build around them properly.

NarejED says... #21

PepperPirate. That's a given. This list is basically saying "If I have 5,000$ to spend on a deck, which one would win the most?"

Also, lol @ Marchesa pulling off turn three wins. Are you using an alternate win combo most of the time, possibly something that uses graveyard shenanigans?

It will take some work but would it be possible to also add a tag with the tier number so that this list can be searched by tier? Bonus to this would be that you can sort by custom so that is how it will load by default. This can be achieved by appending the card name with #1 - #5

Vorosh, the Hunter can win around t4 in a bug pump infect build. That sounds like a build around 3 to me.

I would tend to bump Uril, the Miststalker to 2. He isn't banned and while he is a powerhouse in 1v1, he tends to be voltron which is harder to win with if there are more players.

Otherwise I more or less agree. It was interesting to see that all the decks I have set up as "fair decks" are 4s.

I am fine with Sliver Queen, Sliver Legion and Sliver Hivelord being in the tier 2, but the Sliver Overlord should be in the tier 1 list. You can easily tutor the other slivers, making the deck really consistent in any situation, 1vs1 or multiplayer.

Whenever I play this in multiplayer (6 players) I always become the archenemy, but 9/10 times I can still find a way to win!
