Version 2
Since Rivals came out I took my deck slightly off course and decided that I wanted to invest more cash in it. I added the much needed Fatal Push and Ravenous Chupacabra because I needed more removal.
I added Azor's Gateway
as a way to draw cards and as a game finisher with Torment of Hailfire. I often found myself late game with just a Duress or a Harsh Scrutiny in hand, so Azor's Gateway
would be a great way to replace those late game and get something useful.
I replaced Unburden with Arterial Flow because I rarely used the cycling feature of Unburden and I can now use Arterial Flow with my Gifted Aetherborn to dish out a bit of damage and gain a bit of life for myself.
I replaced some Dunes of the Dead with some Scavenger Grounds in the hopes of dealing with decks featuring The Scarab God and I added some Drowned Catacombs as a bit of a troll in case I get to steal a The Scarab God with Gonti, Lord of Luxury
Replaced Supernatural Stamina with Rush of Vitality because it's just so much better in my deck and it allows me to deal with first strike and double strike creatures
Removed Torment of Scarabs because I often found myself not wanting to play it in favor of something else pretty much every turn. Added on more Gonti, Lord of Luxury, one more Doomfall and a single Tetzimoc, Primal Death because he looks fun to play and worst case scenario it's a 6cmc to flip Azor's Gateway
Version 3
After playtesting, Azor's Gateway
is really to hard to flip in the deck's current state so I'm modifying the curve to include more different cmc cards.
Added Never / Return because it's a 3 cost removal that counts as 7 cmc for Azor's Gateway
Added Liliana, Death Majesty for the 5 cmc and the opportunity to get back creatures from my graveyard
Added Paradox Engine as a 5 cmc and to try and flip Azor's Gateway
quicker by untapping it and looting more than once per turn
Added Razaketh's Rite to diminish the amount of Torment of Hailfire needed in the deck, I'll just go grab it when I flip Azor's Gateway
Added Vraska's Contempt as a 4 cmc and good removal
Added Treasure Map
to scry and draw more during the game and hopefully flip Azor's Gateway
faster
Added Arch of Orazca to get some draw in the late game
Added back Kitesail Freebooter because I understand how to play it now
Added The Immortal Sun as a 6 cmc or a draw engine late game
Added Bontu's Last Reckoning and Golden Demis to sideboard to deal with token decks
Removed Arterial Flow and Harsh Scrutiny because the discard isn't very relevant in the deck anymore
(I don't wanna spend cash on this right now but I'll eventually replace 1 Liliana, Death's Majesty and 1 Tetzimoc, Primal Death for The Immortal Sun and Paradox Engine)
