Most competitive and consistent. —March 12, 2019

This deck is a blast to play. I love the colors, it is my favorite commander, and it is immediately targeted by everyone in my playgroup (which is annoying, but it means that I'm powerful enough to be afraid of). This deck is in its competitive prime and one that I will continue to play for years to come.

Your new changes look very good. I honestly wouldn't change anything. That is unless you want spend a couple grand on a few cards like Imperial Seal and/or more removal/counterspells if you find you don't have enough answers. How has the deck done at your competitive tables?

I actually haven't had the time to playtest with anyone in particular yet. Since I moved I'm not sure how the meta is around here, and in college I didn't bring my car. I have to wait and see if any friend will be up this way. However, in playtesting myself, or just trying different hands, consistent turn 4 or 5 win. A lot more thinking and "making" things work, but it's there. Thanks for the compliment and of course the inspiration Lilbrudder.

Lilbrudder - Had a couple of questions for you.

1) What is your reason for including Shizo, Death's Storehouse in your builid? Are you looking for a "basic" land without it being basic? Any reason you went with Shizo than any of the others? In playtesting I've realized that Sunken Hollow is a completely worthless land to me because I play no basics. Might as well be a guildgate. I was curious as I'm looking for something to replace it. Also has Gemstone Caverns played well? Is it worth playing when your opening hand becomes reduced to 5 because you need to exile a card? I see that you play Darkslick Shores in at least one of your builds. Has the card ever backfired? Is it worth playing most of the time?

2) Deadeye Navigator and Peregrine Drake have become an annoying combo in this particular build of the deck. I never even try to assemble it, let alone drawing it is worthless (so far anyways). I noticed you still play it (with Palinchron) and was wondering why you decided to keep it in your build. Do you even try to assemble it at all? If so what is the reason? I was looking to possibly find some cards to replace those as well. Maybe more creature ramp (in the form of Fyndhorn Elves, Boreal Druid, or Joraga Treespeaker).

3) Possibly adding Mirror-Mad Phantasm back in with Necrotic Ooze, however if Mirror-Mad Phantasm is in the graveyard, and I'm possibly hard casting Necrotic Ooze shouldn't I have the mana to possibly playout my original combos? How often do you use that combo? Do you even try to purposefully assemble it?

4) Bloom Tender has been quite annoying. Rarely do I get to use it beyond adding to my mana pool. Being that it's been somewhat underwhelming it would probably be better to add a one CMC creature to add mana to the mana pool. Any particular reason you decided to keep it?

5) I was debating adding in Concordant Crossroads. Firstly to attack with all of my creatures if the occasion arose for Yawgmoth's Will and Living Death, and secondly to play it turn one or two and have all of my mana ramp creatures to tap and play more things early on. You think that is something worthwhile? I question it because if all of my creatures are return I should have some kind of infinite combo.

6) How has Mana Vault, Chrome Mox, and Lotus Petal played for you? Worthwhile to play even if you need to discard land? Sacrifice it for a one time use? Or mainly just a one time use because you have to pay mana to untap it?

Lilbrudder sorry to keep tagging you but I thought maybe my last one got caught in the mix. Can you look at he questions above and tell me what you think?

Hey man, sorry I must have missed your original tag.

Shizo is trash. I was just looking for something to get more black sources while I was tinkering. Most games darkslick shores plays like an original duals and can't wait for the new enemy fast lands to get printed! I have also cut deadeye palinchron. It really only works for an etb build and mine is no longer that. Gemstone is great even with the card disadvantage. I have recently added tooth and nail to my deck to have a no graveyard needed game winning combo with Tidespout Tyrant + Trinket Mage . Its a really cool and complex combo that I will explain soon. Since I am trying to get to 10 mana by turn 4 bloom tender is well worth a slot in my deck, but you can never go wrong with a one drop mana dork. Fyndhorn elves is the best of the ones you linked. I don't think you need comcordant crossroads personally as mike and trike will just win the game. And tidespout can bounce everything. Mirror Mad is pretty cool. I dont try to assemble it, but it is great when I get to activate it. The moxes are great but I cut mana vault. Sorry I cant go into more detail right now, I am at the hospital :-/

I have completely overhauled my deck and will give an update of my card decisions soon. You were completely right about Leovold as with most things :-)

Oh dude, if you were at the hospital I hope I didn't intrude or anything by retagging you. By all means man take care of business first. Hope everything is alright and that you, or whoever is in the hospital, gets better soon. Take all the time in the world. Maybe I'Lloyd Tage you later with some updates and more questions.

And actually I'm not happy about being right with leovold. I know you'very had a twinkle in your eye about him as soon as you saw him. And we all have cards we try to make fit solely for the fact that we like them. But, at least you figured out in what situations he is good and/or bad at.

Seriously Lilbrudder hope everything goes alright and that you (or yal) start kicking life in the ass again real soon.

Lilbrudder

Gotcha man. If that is the case, then whenever you get the chance what do you think I should put in for Sunken Hollow, Deadeye Navigator, Peregrine Drake, and possibly Shallow Grave. So far all of these cards have been subpar.

Also are you talking about the infinite colorless mana combo with Tidespout Tyrant and Trinket Mage?

Obviously whenever you get the chance. THE your time.

Also Lilbrudder, You think the new fast lands are better than filter lands. Is it worth switching those card for card?

September 11, 2016 10:41 a.m.

Lilbrudder says... #11

I would replace your land with a pain land or fast land. They are by far my favorite lands after duals fetches and 5 color lands.

As for potential adds, you canmot go wrong with Mox Diamond and Chrome Mox. If you then added Trinket Mage, Mox Opal, and Sensei's Divining Top you have the tidespout combo I am referencing, which produces infinite Colored mana and infinite card draw. The only somewhat situational card in the combo is Mox Opal. I am posting an update today to explain it. The primary advantage of the combo is it can win without using the graveyard. That is why I added a ton of ramp and Tooth and Nail. Someone resolves a leyline if the void or RIP I laugh and win anyways.

Our decks are very dependent on getting that one drop mana dork. So all green lands (with the exception of Gaea's Cradle) need to tap for green on turn 1. In this regard fast lands are strictly better than filter lands. After turn 1 it can be a toss up. If you are using many double or triple color costs then filters may be necessary but I am getting to the point where I prefer pain lands like Yavimaya Coast better than anything. Check or buddy lands like Hinterland Harbor are pretty bad since we run so few islands, swamps, and forests. Having to wait to turn 2 to play Llanowar Elves feels horrible. That's where the moxes are clutch. Even with a bad turn 1 land you can play what you need.

Lilbrudder - I'm not so sure about a combo that has variables, as well is somewhat complex to assemble. If my opponent can destroy any one component it all falls down, not to mention the resources to put it together. That's resources that could potentially be used to get other combinations, or protection for them. Granted that's just my thought process, but let me know how it works out for you. I obviously could be completely wrong, but let me know.

Also thanks for the ideas for the lands. I'll look into which ones I want to keep.

It certainly can be somewhat unreliable and it's not my go-to combo but its ability to get around grave hate and the fact that I'm already using all of the cards with the exception Mox Opal is why I use it.

Lilbrudder - Just a quick question on a possible card. What do you think of Bring to Light for the deck? It's another tutor that can hit Hermit Druid, Baby Jace, almost any reanimate spell, Buried Alive ect.

Lilbrudder says... #17

Bring to Light is a really good card. I've never tried it with Sidisi but has a ton of potential

Kharmatia says... #18

I love the deck, i play a sidisi deck to, but since you have lots of ways to get infinite mana may i suggest Empty the Pits or Dark Salvation or even From Under the Floorboards

October 17, 2016 12:48 p.m.

Pheardemons says... #19

I actually don't mind Dark Salvation against aggressive, "flood the board" type decks. I will definitely consider it. However my main combo is Hermit Druid. Usually if I get infinite mana it is with Food Chain and then I already win with still emptying my library. Just a little more complicated. This deck focuses on winning generally turn 3 to 5. I have specifically made the deck so that, if my playgroup isn't at that competitive level, I can hold back or just keep a subpar hand and still make the game fun. Thanks for the suggestions though Kharmatia!

Thanks a lot Kharmatia. Just a heads up, if you want to go super competitive I have to refer you to my friend Lilbrudder and his deck A Cord of Three Strands (SBT Primer). Mine is heavily based on earlier versions of his.
