Sideboard

This is my take on the old-school Permission Deck archetype.

Thanks for the comments and +1!!!

TOTAL COMPETITIVE RECORD: 25-5-3

Most recent tournament activity:

3-14-12 WNM at Amazing Discoveries

Record: 2-1

Wins against B/G Combo, U/B Heartless Summoning. Loss against U/B Control (Mirror).

2-2-12 TNM at Hat's Games

Record: 3-0

Match 1: IMN Control vs. Mono-Blue Infect (2-0)-Won both games very easily with countermaagic and removal. Not much else to be said about these games.

Match 2: IMN Control vs. U/B Infect (2-0)-Won both games with some heavy creature removal and counter for his infect creature pumps. Got Sorin Markov out both games and started swinging away with his plus ability and Snapcaster Mages and Consecrated Sphinxes.

Match 3: IMN Control vs. U/W Mage Blade (2-0)-Won both games thanks to some timely counter spells and leading my opponent to tap out so I could play Karn Liberated. He was Oblivion Ringed, but I followed up with a Sorin Markov which stuck and won out the game after a Black Sun's Zenith board sweep.

2-1-12 WNM at Amazing Discoveries

Record: 2-1

Match 1:IMN Control vs. G/W Kessig Wolf Run (2-0)-Won both games with heavy counter spells and removal. Countered all with triggered ability (Solemn Simulacrum, Primeval Titan, etc.). Had a bit of trouble with 4x Inkmoth Nexus in game one but somehow survived!

Match 2: IMN Control vs. B/U/G Control (0-2)-He had all the answers every game. Very lucky draws on his part, but also a skilled player. I had some sever misplays, but he had the game well in hand either way.

Match 3: IMN Control vs. B/U/G Control (2-0)-Both games I was able to keep Thrun, the Last Troll at bay with Tribute to Hunger and Black Sun's Zenith. I was able to get Sorin Markov, Karn Liberated, and Liliana of the Veil all on the field at the same time both games.

1-22-12 WNM at Amazing Discoveries

Record: 3-0

Match 1: IMN Control vs. W/G Poison (2-0)-Won both matches without a single hiccup or threat sticking to the board.

Match 2: IMN Control vs. UGR Delver (2-0)-Won both rounds without too much difficulty. Almost lost the first game, but Sorin Markov brought me back to life.

Match 3: IMN Control vs. U/R Curse of Stalked Prey-Both games VERY close. Game one I won via double Sorin Markov. Second game I won via attrition, finally drawing Karn Liberated to exile his Shrine of Burning Rage .

1-19-12 TNM at Hat's Games (Modern)

Record: 2-0-1

Match 1: IMN Control vs. Aggro Elves (1-1 Draw)-Won first game via Sorin Markov. Second game, lost due to excessive land draw and poor shuffling. Still almost won it, but I scooped to go to game 3. Game three went to time, and he took as long as he could to make sure it ended in a draw. I would have won the next turn.

Match 2: IMN Control vs. Modular Artifact (2-0)-Completely smashed this opponent. I can't stress that enough.

Match 3: IMN Control vs. Mono-Black Rogues (2-1)-First game I lost. They were too fast. Game two, I sideboarded in tons of removal and Ratchet Bombs and won. Game 3, controlled the board well with Go for the Throat, Mana Leak, and 2c Snapcaster Mage. Won by swinging away with snaps.

1-4-12 WNM at Amazing Discoveries

Record: 3-0

Match 1: IMN Control vs. U/B Control (2-0)-Played the mirror match. Won game 1 by Volition Reins on his Karn Liberated. Game 2, dropped bombs (Liliana, Sorin, Grave, Consecrated) until he scooped.

Match 2: IMN Control vs. G/W Garruk Township (2-1)-Game 1, controlled board, used Lily and Consecrated Sphinx to seal the deal. Game 2 got stomped by a resolved Mirran Crusader and Sword of Feast and Famine. Game 3, controlled board and won via Skythirix, the Blight Dragon and Sorin Markov.

Match 3: IMN Control vs. U/B Heartless Summoning (2-0)-Game 1, played an opening hand of 5 land, Karn Liberated, and Mana Leak. Karn resolved, that was that. Game 2, opponent couldn't get any blue mana out and scooped after I revealed my hand to him.

12-28-11 WNM at Amazing Discoveries

Record: 2-1

Match 1: IMN Control vs. R/G Wolf Run Ramp (2-0)-Both games I did a very good job of controlling his creatures and spell flow. First game almost died to Inkmoth Nexus, but was able to win it. Second game, struggled with Thrun, the Last Troll but won it anyways.

Match 2: IMN Control vs. U/W Control (0-2)-Did terrible. U/W Control is still my weakness and I am working out some ways to beat it. Although I had several missplays, I doubt I would have won either game anyways.

Match 3: IMN Control vs. R/B Vampires (2-1)-A janky build. Not much vamps could do after I BSZd and then landed a Grave Titan or Sorin Markov. The loss was because I played with an opening hand of 5 land, Mana Leak, and Doom Blade but drew more land 4 out of the 5 next turns >.<

12/14/11 WNM at Amazing Discoveries

Record: 2-0-1

Match 1: IMN Control vs. W/G Tokens (2-0)-Both games had plenty of counterspells handy as well as Black Sun's Zenith when I needed to get rid of Thrun, the Last Troll. Luckily, a Mirran Crusader never resolved.

Match 2: IMN Control vs. U/W Planeswalker Control (1-1 Draw)-First game I won by stealing his Karn Liberated with Volition Reins . Second game, he beat me down with tokens from Elspeth Tirel and Gideon Jura . Last game took too long and ended in a draw.

Match 3: IMN Control vs. Suckatog-First game I won via poison counters (2 with Inkmoth Nexus, 4 with Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon, and 5 with a Corrupted Conscienced Vengeaful Pharoah. Second game was won via attrition with 2 resolved Grave Titans finally putting an end to it.

10/3/11 Standard Tournament @ Hat's Games

Record: 3-0

Match 1: IMN Control vs. Mono-Black Zombie (2-0)-Easily controlled board, dropped Sorin Markov followed by Grave Titan both games.

Match 2: IMN Control vs. R/G Werewolves (2-0)-Both games refused permission to let any creatures through, removed missed creatures, Grave Titan ftw.

Match 3: IMN Control vs. Glinthawk Metalcraft (2-0)-First game won with permission and Sorin Markov. Second game was rough; did not draw second black mana till +/- turn 11! Finally, board swept and reset board. Played Sheoldred, Whispering One (removed), Grave Titan (removed), then Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon (stuck) and +10 poison ftw.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Suggestions

Updates Add

Decided to MB 2x Disperse and it has proved an excellent choice. Its a great combo with Snapcaster Mage to give myself a second chance at missed counters, which allows me to play more aggressively. It also has proved useful against Shrine of Burning Rage and creatures enchanted w/ Angelic Destiny.

Total competitive record is up to 18-3-3! I have one more tournament to play tomorrow night before I retire this deck at the release of Dark Ascension, hopefully with a 21-3-3 record!

Thanks for all of the help!

(1-1-1 FNM record not in tournament activity breakdown, but reflected in total competitive score. I left the tournament early due to an emergency so I missed 2 matches).

This deck is officially retired at 21-3-3. A 7:1 win-loss ratio. Excellent! Thanks for all of the help to everyone who gave input and critique!

On to bigger (and hopefully better) things!

Have to admit to loving the look of the deck and I am going to build something based on it. Thanks for the inspiration Steimtime. Great deck. +1 from me.

Thanks a lot!!

since you are resurrecting this... Tragic SlipMTG Card: Tragic Slip needs a spot yeah?

March 8, 2012 5:25 p.m.

DEF!

March 8, 2012 7:32 p.m.

This is how its looking so far after a tiny bit of play-testing. Still contemplating going down to 3x DissipateMTG Card: Dissipate because of today's faster paced meta and MBing a NegateMTG Card: Negate in its place instead for swords, planeswalkers, ect.

Maining another DismemberMTG Card: Dismember because it can still take out Inkmoth NexusMTG Card: Inkmoth Nexus, Phyrexian Obliterator MTG Card: Phyrexian Obliterator , and most other threats. Titans I can usually counter, remove, or take with Volition ReinsMTG Card: Volition Reins.

Got rid of my singleton Grave TitanMTG Card: Grave Titan (sad day) but I felt like with all the swords and crusaders running around and Day of JudgmentMTG Card: Day of Judgments he is less effective that usual.

Contemplating going up to 3x Black Sun's ZenithMTG Card: Black Sun's Zenith but finding it hard to convince myself. Input?

Tragic SlipMTG Card: Tragic Slip earns itself a place in the SB for now as another answer to fast decks or if I need increased removal.

Comments much appreciated. Thanks!

3 bsz for sure.

March 8, 2012 11:27 p.m.

Here's how it looks so far. 3x BSZ. 1x Batterskull for RDW. Kept 4x Dissipate. Added Drownyards.

March 10, 2012 1:28 a.m.

You can try to run Phantasmal ImageMTG Card: Phantasmal Image to deal with Thrun as well. You'll just snipe their Thrun with the legend rule.

January 29, 2012 9:26 p.m.

Very true. I used to SB Phantasmal ImageMTG Card: Phantasmal Image, but it got crowded out. Luckily, I have been very successful with Tribute to HungerMTG Card: Tribute to Hunger, although I'm always very close to putting Phantasmal ImageMTG Card: Phantasmal Image back in thanks to Thalia, Guardian of ThrabenMTG Card: Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and several other legendary creatures being added to the Standard pool.

Thanks for the comment!
