For the first time in 10 years we are dropping red for a bit. Dimir alone has all the tools needed to play a tight control game.

Synopsis

Grixis is definitely the most badass color combination (these are facts) and always been my favorite, so ever since I came back from Standard hiatus, I have been playing nothing but Grixis Control (since DTK, spring 2015).

This list plays as a Cruel Control type deck; kill everything they play, gain more card advantage than them, exhaust their gas, drop a win-con or 2, win. Yeah...fun stuff.

Retired MVPs Show

• Dig Through Time - The single card which made me return to Standard, I never got tired of digging through 7 cards. Extremely powerful and useful, it is no wonder why it is banned in so many formats.
• Silumgar, the Drifting Death - The Hexproof King was at the same time providing a hard-to-remove win-con while fueling the Dragons-matter cards (Silumgar's Scorn, Foul-Tongue Invocation, Draconic Roar) which made the deck tick.
• Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury - Best friends with Silumgar, the Dragon Bros were able to swing for 11 and -2/-2 the opposing board out of nowhere, ending a lot of games with huge punch.
• Silumgar's Scorn - For its whole time in Standard, this was effectively Counterspell in our Grixis Dragons Control shell. Need I say more?
• Jace, Vryn's Prodigy   - Without a doubt the blue card that made the most impact in all kinds of Standard decks in the last few years is Baby Jace. Unsurprisingly, we ran the full 4 copies for its entire stay in Standard, smoothering our draws, helping us stalling threats, fueling our DTTs and allowing us to Snapcast stuff back.
• Goblin Dark-Dwellers - Paired with spells in the graveyard, the Dank bros allowed us to net great value while providing an evasive win-con. Due to the nature of our heavy-removal suite, they often rode us all the way to victory.
• Chandra, Flamecaller - After opponents boards were controlled and cleared out of foes, Chandra's +1 ability was often way too much too much for them handle. The board-sweeping mode also came in extremely handy.
• Liliana, the Last Hope - Out of the gates, the low cost and removal as a +1 ability was what made it shine. The fact that it could fuel our graveyard for GDD or Blue Hulk and at the same time ''regrow'' one of our win-cons provided us with great resilience in grindy matchups. Finally, the Epic third mode allowed us to overcome countless opponents with waves of zombies - what else do you want?
• Torrential Gearhulk - Central to our deck for the his whole duration in Standard, Fatcaster Mage always had our back to blowout the opponent while recasting removal or card draw such as Glimmer of Genius.
• The Scarab God - Beetles was hugely considered the best creature for his whole time in Standard. Good stats, hard to remove, great reanimator, some scrying, some lifedrain, he did it all, great design, great card.
• Search for Azcanta   - Best card filtering in its format. Still love running this in other formats.
• Ral, Izzet Viceroy - Just a great support card, that ultimate was devastating!
• God-Eternal Kefnet - You what grinds people gears? A recurring threat that keeps copying removal spells. So long queen!
• Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God - The ultimate recent Bolas PW card. Its static ability is just legendary and unheard off!
• Chandra, Awakened Inferno - Grinding win-con + spot removal + board wipe a.k.a. control's best friend!
• Ashiok, Nightmare Muse - Although never central to our builds, he always have been a solid support card, just adding oil to our Grixis fires! Thank you for your service Sir!...or Mam!...or They!!
• Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger - So good that all we wanted to do is keep filling that yard.
• Shark Typhoon - The card advantage is just too real for people, especially when it's in the form of FLYING SHARKS BITING FRIGGIN FACES OFF.
• Ugin, the Spirit Dragon - Good card is good. Always been good, always will be! Always at least 1 copy, no brainer! Best late game abuser! You might be LORD BOLAS' enemy, but you will always be welcome by his side :D.
• Valki, God of Lies   - Although the front face was not really playable, the back face more than made up for it!
• Goldspan Dragon - Broken. In his time, if you played red, you played him!... Nuff said. The haste + the ramping...yeah, you know. Eventually got banned!
• Alrund's Epiphany - Any deck running this getting to 7-mana was pretty much gg. Also joined the banned club.
• Professor Onyx - Great support PW, turned an ok board state into a gg situation really fast. Fun alongside Smoldering Egg
