vinylghost, if you’re interested in an update, I’ve made some changes to the deck that I think really smooth out the gameplay.

I took out 2x Beastbreaker of Bala Ged, 2x Kazandu Tuskcaller, 1x Lighthouse Chronologist, 1x Venerated Teacher, 4x Experimental Augury, and 1x Drown in Ichor and in their place I added 2x Reject Imperfection, 4x Serum Snare, 4x Sheoldred's Edict, and 1x Training Grounds.

The deck feels a lot better to play now as I’m not always swamped with so many level up creatures that it becomes impossible to level them all up and I can usually control the board long enough to fully pump up a threat or two. It still needs some work and further play testing to smooth out more of the wrinkles, but I think what I have here is a good start.

How are you finding the deck with the changes you’ve made?

I've got an arena deck kinda like this hoping to mimic 8-Rack in modern using Davriel, Rogue Shadowmage and Sheoldred, the Apocalypse. The cards I run that really shine for me are Infernal Grasp and Power Word Kill for targeted creature removal. Sheoldred's Edict and Liliana's Triumph are also pretty neat especially if you run Liliana of the Veil.... all in all i love it! +1

I think the issue here at the moment is that you’re running faar too many level-up creatures. Realistically you’re going to have drawn far more than you can practically level-up before game end.

Even with cost reductions, levelling up a creature takes a lot if precious time… time that you’re currently not giving yourself much if, as you only barely interact at all with the opponent (giving them free-access to just out-race you).

I’d suggest ditching around 8-9 of your level-up creature cards, and replacing them with interactive spells to help buy you the time you need to get setup (Counterspell, Fatal Push, Sheoldred's Edict, etc). I’d also swap out Experimental Augury in place of something more interactive - as this effect seems quite weak for 2 mana.

Dark Deal and Ill-Gotten Gains are brutal alongside Tergrid.

Mire in Misery and Sheoldred's Edict are swiss army knife utility.

Death Cloud bomb.

Heya Ender. I've always had a special place in my heart for a good Rack Deck. Used to play them back in the day with Hymn to Tourach and Mind Twist. I like the concept of having the Hand disruption and making people suffer for it, lol. I also have a black modern deck that features discard and control with a lot of the same elements as you have here. i.e. Dauthi Voidwalker. I have been thinking lately that I should change it up and your deck has inspired me a bit. I'll toy around with some ideas. I have a few thought. Card draw is always an essential part of the game, so I'd add some Silent Clearings and remove the Concealed Courtyards if I could. Also, Liliana of the Veil, was and still is a bad beatch. I like the sideboard lockdown options along with Karn, that seems like a pretty solid plan. 4 Solitude seems like a bit much, you don't have a whole lot of white cards to exile here to make it free, and you also have the march which sometimes also requires a white card in hand, so maybe lean into some other form of control here, like Anguished Unmaking, Vindicate, Damn, Sheoldred's Edict. 4 Ephemerate seems awkward here too, I'm guessing that is for protecting your creatures from removal? Not sure how necessary that is, but Anyway, just some thoughts. Like I said, I like the build and I'm interested to hear how it works for you! Good Luck!

Edicts! Mass Edicts! Fleshbag Marauder, Merciless Executioner, Demon's Disciple, Plaguecrafter & Gravelighter are all nuts in this build. I wouldn't recommend ones that cost more than 3, though. Soul Shatter, Vona's Hunger, Liliana's Triumph & Sheoldred's Edict do the same thing at Instant speed, with the tradeoff being less Counters on Kresh the Bloodbraided, as those are not Creature Spells.

Those cheap, 3-drop Elemental stompers are solid as well, like Ball Lightning & Lightning Skelemental.

I'd also recommend literally as many Dorks as possible, as they also pump Kresh when they die, they're utility at both the floor and the ceiling of your deck is undeniable.

Pestilence & Pyrohemia are also worth it for this Commander for the same reason mass Edicts are worth it: controlling the board and pumping your Commander at the same time is just a great thing to do.

More card draw couldn't hurt either, maybe a Beast Whisperer & a Dark Tutelage or something.

Cheers!
