A lot of updates —Oct. 11, 2021

I finally got time to put the updates here based on a few tournaments I was able to play. This includes some fine-tunning (like removing cards that never helped me in a game while I had them in my hand , such as the fun copy artifact) and adding some new cards.

I keep mostly loosing 1:2 vs good decks, but the potential is there and the deck is getting better in the competition.

Any suggestions are welcomed!

Atraxa is one of my favorite legendary creatures in this game, so I appreciate any deck with her as the general, but this deck has no cards that synergize with her, so why did you choose her as the general?

DemonDragonJ I have never really been that much about building EDH around the commander too much.

It's just I am a big fan of control and infect.. My original deck was UB , then I wanted for long time to play WUB, so I did with Sen Triplets as commander.. But while fun, Sen Triplets won't offer much for Infect. Atraxa does proliferates, and green has some nice spells that comes handy when trying to get the poison counters quickly.. So I though I would try it out.

So yeah, the only synergy would be the proliferation and letting me splash some green.

Eckat, that makes sense, but, in that case, I would recommend using two generals who have the partner mechanic, with a popular combination being Thrasios, Triton Hero and Tymna the Weaver.

Thanks DemonDragonJ , I will probably still try Atraxa first, but playing those companions can be good.. Namely it can help a lot against agro decks, having an answer straight away.

ReplacedArcane Signet with Shark Typhoon

I just like that card, and I am not sure I really need mana ramp, given the overall lower average cost.

Thinking of maybe adding Eladamri's Call and Balance

Eckat says... #11

Ookay, removed Shark Typhoon and added the Eladamri's Call.

Now, I still want to add Balance since it can save my ass, when things are not going super well for me and I am getting overwhelmed. But what to replace it with? :(

I have ended up 5th - 8th out of 12 people.

TLDR: I need something to handle graveyard plays, I have hard time vs full control decks, and I probably will decrease number of removals and add MOAR counter spells.

Longer:

First game I went 0:1 only, but it was a GOOD game, opponents BG deck worked with sacrifices and graveyard (commander that gives you experience counter every time you sacrifice a creature and then at the end of turn you can return creature from graveyard to hand or battlefield, depending on number of exp counters) So thing number 1 , I don't have graveyard cleanups! I could have won but got Mind Twisted a turn before my reckless final push ;D

Second game I won easily 2:0, vs RB deck (Zagras, Thief of Heartbeats as commander.

Third game I lost 0:2 vs BW control deck (Commander the 5-4 flying bird that has hexproof when Untapped). First round I was completely mana screwed and second round the guy just had perfect answers for everything. I have lost with my Esper deck vs this guy in the past.. I think the matchup vs full control decks is no good for me.. I am thinking to decrease on Cleanups and adding more Counterspells back , going MOAR control.

4th game I won 2:1 vs RB deck (commander that let's you play 1 instant or sorcery from your graveyard every turn).

Aside from very minor infect damage, and a few planes-walkers there is no need to proliferate. I highly suggest taking out some counterspells and a few removal spells. Add a lot more infect cards. Why? Because I count 6 ways to deal infect damage in your 100 card deck. Let's pretend your opponent has removal as well, and can deal with 6 threats; fairly easy task is it not? Suggestions: Blackcleave Goblin, Ichor Rats, Phyresis, Spinebiter, Phyrexian Swarmlord There are so many options. I highly suggest you build more ways to win in your deck. Good luck.

Thanks for your comment kimosabe , This is one of the things I kept thinking about, to go a bit more into infect and add more creatures to cause a bit more pressure. So seeing the comment, I will see what I can think off.

Hi Eckat, I hope your deck is working great. When I was considering to run Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon, I also considered Neoform - if you happen to keep Atraxa on board, you can sac her to Neoform for blue and green, get Skithiryx with +1/+1 and give it haste with black, swing for 5 poison and threaten to kill you opponent next turn. And if you did not miss land drops and happen to have another 2 blacks, you can regenerate him, so he might not be easy to remove (apart from 5/5 body).

I was moving to my new place.. Finally could unpack cards and get back to tunning this deck :) (Unfortunately thanks to Covid situation here, won't be able to play it anytime soon :()

Drolas , thanks for your comment. The Neoform combo is interesting, I will get the card soon from my friend and will be able to try.

In the meantime, I have removed what is now placed in sideboard and added. Going MOAR creatures.
