Welcome fellow Planeswalkers, today's Library is a Tempo deck that mainly focuses on the Madness mechanic to cheat creatures onto the battlefield by discarding them with Loot Cards and other discard effects. The deck also sports a healthy amount of removal to keep their Battlefield clear.
The whole concept of this deck is based around gaining value from discarding cards with the Madness mechanic and also to decrease the casting cost of
Hollow One
for a free 4/4. Hollow One does not have Madness itself, but highly benefits from a deck centered around self discard. Below are the Madness Creatures that make up this deck:
- 4x Blazing Rootwalla has a Madness cost of and is a nice reference to the old Basking Rootwalla days. It can also be hard cast easily since it only has a Mana Value of 1.
- 4x Kitchen Imp is a Hasty Flier and a Madness cost of from some pretty solid stats overall.
- 2x Grave Scrabbler gives us some recursion for our creatures with the ETB trigger it sports while being a 2/2 body for a Madness cost.
- 1x Necrogoyf is our lategame threat that also forces ourselves to discard during our Upkeep and our opponents to discard during their Upkeep.
This deck could not function without discard outlets. This deck utilizes loot effects and even some discard effects that can be done at instant speed, effectively giving a creature flash if the Madness cost is paid!
Loot Cards:
- 4x Burning Inquiry may be random, but it's the most efficient looting spell for 1 CMC that also interferes with our opponents!
- 4x Thrilling Discovery is a strictly better Cathartic Reunion .
Instant Madness enablers:
- 3x Ravenous Bloodseeker has an Instant speed Activated Ability that can be used to bring out Madness Creatures at Instant Speed all while pumping itself.
- 1x Lightning Axe is a great form of removal that can bring out our Madness Creatures at Instant Speed as well!
- Bone Shards is a helpful removal card that hits both creatures and Planeswalkers. It also requires a discard or sac to cast it, so it doubles as a discard outlet. This is all for which is just nuts! Too bad it's not an instant or it would be insanely nuts. Shout out to Balaam__ for the recommendation!
Inside of a Midrange Mardu Shell, this Madness Tempo deck is a lot of fun to generate value with to out tempo your opponent. I hope you enjoyed the deck and I hope you have a great day!
