So, since this isn't standard anymore what will you change? They took away Spirits, but you could try out the Avens for control and have a pretty decent deck. Aven Mindcensor, Nimble Obstructionist, Dauntless Aven, Aven Wind Guide, Tah-Crop Elite, Aven of Enduring Hope, and Dawnfeather Eagle are just a few. Maybe not the best, but it gives you a super cheap tribal until you can come up with something new.

Yes, after playing around with it a bit, I know that mana is by far the biggest obstacle this deck has. I have tweaked it a bit, taking out some of the big drops, and replacing them with smaller ones that have similar effects. Servant of the Conduit instead of Oasis Ritualist, and Sunscourge Champion instead of Aven of Enduring Hope, those sorts of changes. I'll outline all of the changes when I update the actual deck post on the site here in a second. The cards you suggested, Dr_Jay, the Sylvan Advocate and Selfless Spirit are both great cards, but I am trying to avoid the older sets, if I can. Just personal preference.

Control decks usually run more than 20 lands. Since your deck has a low CMC i would cut the 2 Aven of Enduring Hope for 2 extra lands. Also, try swapping some of the single colored lands for duals like Irrigated Farmland, Lumbering Falls, Scattered Groves and Fortified Village or maybe some Evolving Wilds.

The current standard metagame is full of aggro decks, maybe running Primal Druid instead of Manalith and Traveler's Amulet is a good idea. Thraben Inspector is a great card, i would totally swap some of your less impactful creatures like Wall of Forgotten Pharaohs, God-Pharaoh's Faithful and Eternal of Harsh Truths for a set of Thraben Inspector. Also consider swapping Beneath the Sands for Shefet Monitor. Traverse the Ulvenwald is amazing but kinda pricey.

Life goes on is a card i would definetly try to cut for something better. Cards that just gain life are often not worth of a deck slot. Ambuscade is not suited for control decks. Both cards could be swapped for sweepers like Fumigate or Descend upon the Sinful or better spot removal like Cast Out.

Choosing which creatures to run on a control deck is very diferent from choosing creatures for aggro/midrange decks. On control you almost always divide your creatures between support creatures and finishers. The only finishers you have are 2 Striped Riverwinder so i recommend adding some combination of Ishkanah, Grafwidow, Linvala, the Preserver and Angel of Sanctions for a total of 6 or 7 finishers. Casting a Shefet Monitor can also help you close the game but it doesn't have any evasion so i would use them almost exclusively to ramp.

Of your remaining creatures Sidewinder Naga feels really out of place because it is an aggressive, midrange creature on a control deck, Tireless Tracker makes a lot more sense as a support creature.

Unsummon bounce effect is best suited on decks built to exploit the tempo advantage it gives or aggressive decks where temporarily removing a blocker can make a big difference so i would swap it for Spring or Nissa's Renewal.

I recommend the following changes:

Cut 2 Colossapede, 2 Bitterbow Sharpshooters, 2 Wall of Forgotten Pharaohs, 4 Aven of Enduring Hope, 2 Winged Shepherd, 1 Sandwurm Convergence, 1 Greater Sandwurm, 1 Mirage Mirror, 2 Life goes on.

Add 3 Rhonas's Stalwart, 1 Resilient Khenra, 1 Gideon's Defeat, 1 Dauntless Aven, 1 Tah-Crop Elite, 1 Vizier of the True, 1 Rhet-Crop Spearmaster, 1 Trial of Solidarity, 1 Sunscourge Champion, 2 Bitterblade Warrior, 1 Unwavering Initiate, 1 Initiate's Companion , 1 Naga Vitalist, 1 Act of Heroism.

The biggest problem of your current version is the mana curve, you have way too many mana intensive cards and very little ramp, so i would cut the 5+ CMC cards for the aggressive 2 and 3 drops from your card pool and play a more aggro version of the deck.

I attended 2 prereleases on Saturday, and won BOTH OF THEM!!

The 1st one had 18 players, (4 rounds) and I opened an insane RB deck. 2 Dreamstealers (one was my prerelease promo), Neheb, the Eternal, Sand Strangler, and 5+ great red removal spells. I paired it with black for curve reasons, even though I had some decent green cards and 2 of my removal spells were Struggle / Survive. I went 4-0 and didn't even drop a game until the last round.

The 2nd one was much smaller with only 9 players, and was only 3 rounds. I played a BW deck that was headed up by Crested Sunmare and Liliana, Death's Majesty. My promo was Wildfire Eternal which I opted not to use. Again, I had lots of removal and finally found a reason to play 2 copies of Trespasser's Curse in limited -> The HORSE! In the 3 matches I played, I never saw Lily but the horse straight up won me the game every time it hit the field. I played deserts with solitary camels and Sacred Cat just for the lifelink in addition to the curses and an aven of enduring hope . 5/5 indestructible horses are the real deal in limited.

No Bolas's for me in the 32 total packs I opened, but I did manage to get a pack foil Ramunap Excavator and 2 non-foil copies, which was nice :)
